Just as soon as the people of God are sealed in their foreheads--it is not any seal or mark that can be seen, but a settling into the truth, both intellectually and spiritually, so they cannot be moved--just as soon as God's people are sealed and prepared for the shaking, it will come. Indeed, it has begun already; the judgments of God are now upon the land, to give us warning, that we may know what is coming.

The days are fast approaching when there will be great perplexity and confusion. Satan, clothed in angel robes, will deceive, if possible, the very elect. There will be gods many and lords many. Every wind of doctrine will be blowing. . . .

The mark of the beast will be urged upon us. Those who have step by step yielded to worldly demands and conformed to worldly customs will not find it a hard matter to yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. The contest is between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. In this time the gold will be separated from the dross in the church. True godliness will be clearly distinguished from the appearance and tinsel of it. Many a star that we have admired for its brilliancy will then go out in darkness. Chaff like a cloud will be borne away on the wind, even from places where we see only floors of rich wheat. All who assume the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christ's righteousness, will appear in the shame of their own nakedness.

But there are men who will receive the truth, and these will take the places made vacant by those who become offended and leave the truth....

Men of true Christian principle will take their place, and will become faithful, trustworthy householders, to advocate the word of God in its true bearings, and in its simplicity. The Lord will work so that the disaffected ones will be separated from the true and loyal ones.... The ranks will not be diminished. Those who are firm and true will close up the vacancies that are made by those who become offended and apostatize.

This stuff is so serious and yet so often disguised! It is exciting because Jesus is soon to return. But it is also frightening because there is a very real risk that one could be taken in by some of these winds out there. I have learned much on this website about pitfalls that are out there but more importantly I have felt strengthened by Biblical truth in response to them. The more I learn the less I know.

That's one of the things I like about this place. It keeps me studying my Bible. And like you said, it also shows that every wind of doctrine is blowing right now in the SDA church. Just like the prophet said it would be, just before the end.

Yes, I agree with you here Richard. I have been seeing this happen more and more just very recently. I think it definately a sign of the times.

Yes Richard. I do think we are seeing gods and lords being made. This is a most unfortunate turn in our church.

That is why it is absolutely essential that WE ourselves know where we are standing, and not just depending on something handed down that may or may not be solid ground.

Absolutely. Study for yourself, with much prayer, and be able to prove what you believe. If you can't prove it, then you don't really believe it.

You cannot depend on the church to feed you spiritually.

Oh yes you can. If your faith is real, you cannot help but have the works as fruit. That is the evidence of true faith.

Jas 2:17 Even so faith, if it has not works, is dead, being alone.

Jas 2:20 Do you want to be shown, you foolish person, that faith apart from works is useless? (ESV)

Was not Abraham our father justified by works when he offered up his son Isaac on the altar? You see that faith was active along with his works, and faith was completed by his works; Jas 2:21,22

Jas 2:24 You see that a person is justified by works and not by faith alone.

Mat 7:20 Therefore by their fruits you shall know them.

God does not need to take your word that you have faith. He will look at the evidence.

No the Devil cannot produce good fruit. It's impossible. And we are told to look for the good fruit.

Mat 7:16 You shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

I have felt for some time that I need to be able to defend what I believe. I think you are right. It is not enough to believe the truth, It is important to be able to solidly support one's beliefs. Thank you for your encouragement.

Perhaps this is not the kind of a test where the results of faith/belief are clear to everyone but I certainly believe that fruits are a pretty good indicator of the direction of one's life.

Satan can certainly appear to have good fruit but if you watch pretty soon that fruit is seen for what it really is.

I wasn't advocating looking to others as our standard to see if we or they measure up. But it is appropriate to evaluate whether or not we are following truth or error. We can only make accurate assessments the Word of God. (1 John 4:1)

Is the context speaking of the law? Let's see:

James 2:21 Was not our ancestor Abraham considered righteous for what he did when he offered his son Isaac on the altar? 22 You see that his faith and his actions were working together, and his faith was made complete by what he did. 23 And the scripture was fulfilled that says, "Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness," and he was called God's friend. 24 You see that a person is justified by what he does and not by faith alone. 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.

I'm not going to look at someone's life to determine if they are preaching truth. I will check what they are preaching ... with the Word of God.
