I am absolutely sure about that...but no, it is NOT an absolute...as I am fallable....

So how can you be absolutely sure?

This debating tactic of simply labeling any opposing position, no matter how tentatively held, as an 'absolute' and thus thinking to neutralise it, is really getting old.

Those who hold that the proposed absolutes are not actually absolutes are not saying so absolutely. As I mentioned a couple of pages ago, a sensible paraphrase is 'It is possible that absolutes exist, but I have not yet seen any. I am still looking at evidence.' The statement is tentative, not dogmatic.

And, as such, is absolutely (heh) logically consistent.

Truth is important

It's illogical to say that because some people did evil things on the basis of what they considered "absolute knowledge," all so-called "absolute knowledge" is dangerous or should be rejected. Christ's life and teachings are a perfect example of when absolute knowledge leads to the good. I don't believe we should make human or society's ideas and values the measure of right and wrong.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

"There are NO absolutes" is not an absolute statement for the same reasons that "There are NO leprechauns", is not a "leprechauns" statement.

History has shown that even people who believe in the absolute truth of Jesus can commit some of the most cruel acts based on that belief.

To claim that something is absolutely true using a human brain is arrogance and leads to a state of being where that BELIEF is never questioned.

Apparently this is not true either. Check this link

Oh this is choice.

You are now saying that the laws of physics we have defined as humans are infallible.

What laws of physics don't we completely understand?

The ones we haven't written yet? LOL

Yes, but it needs to be considered that they are going contrary to Jesus own words and teaching. You can't keep people from being wrong or having false understandings. People have different motivations, some of which are evil. Christ and His teaching aren't responsible for those things.

Jesus warned that people would kill Jesus' followers in the name of God and even in His own name. It's part of the war between good and evil. Who can honestly and sincerely deny there's such a war going on? It's only been going on since the beginning of human history. It's everywhere you look and everyone has a part in it every moment of every day.

How can you be so sure of this since you are only using a human brain?

Some beliefs are beyond question for me at this point, meaning I'm absolutely certain of them. A couple of them are the inspiration of the Bible and the existence of God and Christ.

i think i understand what you are saying. i am all too fallible, not to mention i dont have all the pieces of the puzzle, just the few i know--and many times did not know there were more pieces til they were dropped in my lap.

I think that is a healthy attitude. I too, am very aware of my limitations and have learned to never over claim my position on things. There is far too much that I don't know to claim absolute understanding.
