Sounds like you're more interested in being unique than being understood,Neil. Am I correct? I didn't think Neil said he wanted to be unique. He is using a common method of conversing called "reflective listening." In order to know if you're understanding someone, reflecting back to a person in different terminology (but perhaps more meaningful to the speaker) is a very good way to come to a common understanding of what someone is talking about. I think people get hung up on semantics a lot of times, especially on a forum where you can't get coinciding nonverbal cues. Just my *take* on it...maybe I'm wrong. Planey Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Maybe there should be a quota. 20 Liberals. 2 Middle roaders. 1 Conservative. Excellent idea, Mark. However there seems to a problem with your numbers. Way too many conservatives... Dr. Shane Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 I think some people that go on and on and on are just trying to be heard or understood. I know for me, I mostly try to be understood so if someone responds to me by saying, "I understand where you are coming from, but I don't agree with that view" I am satisfied. I suspect some come here to vent because no one in their local church will listen to them. So here they "demand" to be heard. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor...
