Pastor_Chick Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Hello Fellow Theologians, Here is a simple question with a potentially "easy answer" available. What is the proof text for Sabbath-keepers (from the Bible) that shows those Sunday-keepers we shall observe the Sabbath in Heaven? Oh, you can support your answer with SOP if you like. Quote Chick
BobRyan Posted June 17, 2011 Posted June 17, 2011 Isaiah 66 - Quote: 15 For behold, the LORD will come in fire And His chariots like the whirlwind, To render His anger with fury, And His rebuke with flames of fire. 16 For the LORD will execute judgment by fire And by His sword on all flesh, And those slain by the LORD will be many. 17 ""Those who sanctify and purify themselves to go to the gardens, Following one in the center, Who eat swine's flesh, detestable things and mice, will come to an end altogether,'' declares the LORD. 18 ""For I know their works and their thoughts; the time is coming to gather all nations and tongues. And they shall come and see My glory. ... Is 66 22 ""For just as the new heavens and the new earth Which I make will endure before Me,'' declares the LORD, ""So your offspring and your name will endure. 23 ""And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from Sabbath to Sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me,'' says the LORD. And of course from Mark 2:27 The Sabbath was "made for mankind" Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.

The answer to this question might be important to your question! Miz3, I believe that there will be. In the Bible there's reference's to us in the new Earth, about worshipping from one new moon to the next and from Sabbath to Sabbath. So in my opinion I believe that since we've been living like this for all these years I see no reason why it should change. Now if it turns out that there wont be time, than so be it. Pastor_Chick Posted June 19, 2011 Author Posted June 19, 2011 I think I have seen one germane Scripture that pins down the observance of Sabbath in the new earth, viz, Isa. 66:23. Correct me if I am wrong. Quote: And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the LORD. But, what about that phrase "from one new moon to another?" What are we to do with that? Quote Chick

But, what about that phrase "from one new moon to another?" What are we to do with that? I see you found the verse I've been looking for, great. As far as new moon to another, well I read in the SDA Bible Commentary on that verse: On the ritual of the new moon undr Mosaic law see Num. 10:10; 28:11-14; cf. Amos 8:5. On the importance of the new moon in the time of Israel's restoration see Eze. 46:1,3. I read these verses, I thought they were very interesting. Light Fox Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 You know, that question raises an interesting point. For that verse specifically, my experience is that Adventists use it as a sort of "third-party reference" outside of the Mosaic/Eternal debate regarding the nature of the Sabbath law. In other words, the point that it is used to make is "it cannot be done away with, because we're going to be keeping it in Heaven." If you are going to say "The New Moon was done away with ("put away from Israel"), so that part of the verse was for Judaism only", then the whole verse becomes useless for that purpose, and you're right back at square one debating if the Sabbath was not also in that same category. So it seems the options here would be: 1) The verse was to Jews and dependent on their being the chosen people. If so, it is dishonest to use it to prove the Sabbath will be kept in the new earth outside of the context of their covenant, but the New Moon portion could be ruled out as being to Israel only. 2) The verse was from a neutral perspective stating what will happen in Heaven regardless of whether the Jewish nation stayed faithful. In that case, it can be used as Adventists always have used it; but the question of the New Moon cannot be considered tied to Israel, and based on their covenant. Basically, it's all or nothing. You can't split it up into two portions; either the Sabbath and the New Moon will both be kept in Heaven, or that verse cannot be used to show the Sabbath being kept in Eternity any more than it can be used to show the New Moon being kept in eternity. Even if you were to attempt to show where "The New Moon was to be put away from Israel," you would be arguing that the verse is entirely misused by Adventism, and cannot be used to show it in eternity to bypass the "Done away with" argument of Sunday-keepers. Quote: And it shall come to pass, that from one new moon to another, and from one sabbath to another, shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the LORD. But, what about that phrase "from one new moon to another?" What are we to do with that? Pastor_Chick, Thank you for providing your insight on this topic. Concerning Isa. 66:23, it seems that in order for it to be advocating Sabbath observance the wording would be different; something like "on each Sabbath shall all flesh come to worship before Me, saith the LORD". However, the given wording, "from one...to another", indicates that worship is a continuous state, not something that is emphatically more on Sabbath than on the days in between. With this in mind, I will disagree with the assertion that the passage is relevant to Sabbath observance in the new earth. What is it in the wording of the verse that makes you consider it to be implying such Sabbath observance, especially in light of the fact that "there shall be no night there; and they need no candle, neither light of the sun; for the Lord God giveth them light" (see Rev. 22:5)? LifeHiscost Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 (see Rev. 22:5)? Agape` ] It appears from the context of the surrounding verses that "no night there" refers specifically to where the throne is, which is inside the city. "For the throne of God and of the Lamb will be there, and his servants will worship him. And they will see his face, and his name will be written on their foreheads. And there will be no night there—no need for lamps or sun—for the Lord God will shine on them."Rev 22:3-5 NLT God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Pastor_Chick Posted June 20, 2011 Author Posted June 20, 2011 Wayne, Thank you for the articulate presentation of your view. Before I proceed with further comments on this, I would like to know if you are a member of Adventism. If so, do you hold any positive regard for the prophetic gift of Ellen White? I want to make sure I can speak your language. Quote Chick
WayneV Posted June 20, 2011 Posted June 20, 2011 Pastor_Chick Thank you for your questions. My relationship to Adventism has no bearing on the question you posed nor on the truth contained in the passage being discussed. Please do not let my qualifications, or lack thereof, as an Adventist color the discussion. Second, since your question and the following assertion were based on Scripture, the discussion should remain based in Scripture. However, if you desire to use Ellen White, Matthew Henry, Adam Clarke, or any other reputable source as commentary on the meaning of a passage of Scripture, please feel free to do so. Although, for the time being, let's grant equal weight to the commentaries being used. Otherwise, the discussion boils down to "My commentator can beat up your commentator!" Is this agreeable to you? Agape` Thank you for answering my questions, though I would have preferred a more direct approach. I seem to remember expressing my reason for asking. I am not of the character to "debate" with such trifle as "My commentator can beat up your commentator!" Some users on this forum do not accept the Apostle Paul as a "qualified commentator." I am 65 years old and find no benefit in wasting energy by employing an unintelligible language. It makes no difference to ME what your relationship is to Adventism, Ellen White, or Paul. But, it does facilitate my work when I know what pitfalls to avoid. I am all things to all men that I might win some. I shall continue in prayer before making any "authoritative" comments on the subject of Isa. 66:23. Quote Chick
Dr. Rich Posted June 21, 2011 Posted June 21, 2011 So Pastor Chuck, you do admit that you will become anyone just to fool people into believing you like Paul did too? Would not that be called deception? Isn't deception a lie? Hmmm? Here is the scripture that proves those in the new earth will be keeping the Sabbath even if it is not like we do today. Rev. 12:17. Only those who keep all of the commandments and the words (testimony) of Jesus will be the ones found in this group. Only those who obey God will be the ones living in the New Earth (made new). Since they have already made their choice to obey, such a test for them will not be required again. Right now we can only guess what those people will be doing or not doing in the New Earth. My question to you is this: Who cares? Quote
