LifeHiscost Posted August 25, 2011 Posted August 25, 2011 I cried beginning with the third moment and the tears were more copious until the end. And the saddest thing I recall is that the Seventh Day Adventists weren't mentioned at all, not even as the most needy. God bless you, Stan, for sharing the reality of the gospel through Mark. My wife will now be watching it and I can already tell you what the results for her will be. God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

olger Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Quote from Mark Mowry (episode 158) "The only thing you can know for sure is your experience." Wait a minute. Experience can be deceptive, can't it? Dare we determine ultimate truth by our experiences? hmmm, g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
Moderators John317 Posted August 26, 2011 Moderators Posted August 26, 2011 Experience can be deceptive, can't it? Dare we determine ultimate truth by our experiences? Yes, it is frequently deceptive. Ultimate truth is determined by objective evidence, not our subjective experiences. If we let our own personal, subjective experiences determine ultimate truth, it means that we put our own experiences and reasoning in the place of God. Humans become the authority. It's a subtle way of man (666), instead of God (777), becoming the center of universe. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Twilight II Posted August 26, 2011 Posted August 26, 2011 Man on His own cannot be objective. But a man totally committed to the leading of God, now isn't that something different? Quote
olger Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 We are witnessing a remarkable migration of religion among us. From objective to subjective premise. This exactly parallels the postmodern concept of individualized auto-developed reality. Adventist self-identity once rested on adherence to external truths found in and accepted from the Word of God. The experiential element always has been there, but it was used to define my reaction, my surrender to a new birth, my response to the call of Christ. The submission of all my desires and plans and habits and perspectives and goals and hopes—before the majestic truth that Christ has revealed to me. That’s an objective relationship, friends. The transaction was objective. There was a subjective element which dealt with my method and my surrender, but not with the elements of truth. The spirit leads me to accept God’s ways, whether it is convenient or not. Today’s Adventist church has moved measurably from the description I have just given you, prompting Elder Wilson to warn us about the Emerging church movement and other dangers. However the stress today is falling on a relationship that relies no longer on revealed truth as it does on inner emotional experience. Hence we have all this feel-good preaching that’s coming from our pulpits, friends (and outside pulpits). It’s an effort on the part of some pastors to meet the needs that they perceive. At its popular level relationship suggests the coming together of mere equal parties, in a format suggesting negotiated agreement of some kind. Almost missing from this formula is the sense of awe — what it means to come into the presence of the Master of the universe. Curiously, the word relationship is all but absent from the Biblical text. An intimate walk between persons (us) and the Mighty Ruler of all is often presented, but always & only on the basis of overflowing grace. Never on the basis of cozy intimacy between equals. g Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."

ClubV12 Posted August 27, 2011 Posted August 27, 2011 Being kinda new to this, I find that question actually worthy of asking. What DID ya'll do before the Emerging church thing? I'm sure since the beginning of the church there was always some new idea to blame stuff on. What was it, say, in the 70's? I assume that predates the emerging church thing (whatever that is). Quote

For instance, God's Word tells us that He exists and that He loves us and has demonstrated His love throughout history. Christ's life, death, and resurrection, are objective proofs that He loves us. Believers don't wait for their personal experience to verify the objective evidence before they believe what the Bible teaches. God tells us that He made the world in 6 days and blessed the seventh day. We don't have to verify God Word before we believe it. In fact, we can't verify it. We believe the objective Word of God. The Sabbath is holy time, not because we feel it is holy but simply because of the objective truth of Scripture. It doesn't depend on how we feel about it. Again, God's Word tells us that Christ was raised from the dead and is coming back again. WE don't have to verify His Word before we believe Christ was resurrected and is returning. Our belief is based on the testimony of the Word of God. There is no way to verify that Christ was resurrected. We're not depending on our personal experience in order to believe what God has said. It doesn't depend on how we feel about it. It is true whether we feel a certain way or not. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted August 27, 2011 Moderators Posted August 27, 2011 Man on His own cannot be objective. The Word of God is objective truth. Its truth doesn't depend on our subjective experience or our feelings or our opinion. For instance, God commands us, "You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor." It is wrong to bear false witness against our neighbor no matter what our subjective experience is. We may think it is OK to bear false witness, but the objective word of God says it is wrong. We don't wait to verify the objective word of God before we believe it and act upon it. The same can be said for all of God's moral law. If we wait to verify it by our subjective experiences, we are telling God that His Word is not sufficient but that we need our own experiences before we believe Him. That's what Abraham and Sarah did when they tried to help God fulfill His promises. It leads to works righteousness and to putting man in God's place. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
