12tribes Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Oh, gosh, that is ridiculous and pathetic. When Jesus was baptised, the spirit came and the voice of God was heard, but this was a symbol, no-one could have the Spirit in the way that the apostles did in Acts 2, until Jesus died and rose again. In any case, why would Jesus need to speak in tongues, are you saying He did not know what to pray for ? I note you've come up with another word game and no actual explanation for the scriptures that prove what I've said. Now you are making up stories with no Biblical evidence. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
BibleOnly Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 I am astounded at how little you know the Bible, and how you don't read anything I post. No scripture I am about to quote, is not already in my prior posts. Mat 3:16 And Jesus, when he was baptized, went up straightway out of the water: and, lo, the heavens were opened unto him, and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove, and lighting upon him: Mat 3:17 And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Spirit descends, voice of God heard. Jhn 3:8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit. As I keep saying, the word 'wind' is always Spirit in the Bibld, and the word sound is 'phonos', an articulate voice. When someone is born of the Spirit, the voice of the Spirit is heard. Jhn 14:26 But the Comforter, [which is] the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you. Jhn 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Jhn 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come [again] unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I. Jhn 14:12 ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. What do you do that is greater than what Jesus did ? Quote

Dr. Rich Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 Which was correct--John 20:21-22 or the even found in Acts 2? They both could not be the truth. Do you believe an eyewitness or do you believe in hearsay evidence? Quote
BibleOnly Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 "Greater means more they will do the same as what Jesus did except more of it." You're kidding, right ? Jhn 14:12 ¶ Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater [works] than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father. 'Greater works than these' means 'a greater number of the same works' ? Why did you not respond to all the scriptures I provided ? Why will you again ask this question in two days and act as if I had not already provided them ? Quote

Do you believe an eyewitness or do you believe in hearsay evidence? John 20 does not say they received the Spirit, it says Jesus told them to. In Acts 2, they did. Jesus said believers would speak in tongues. I showed that. So, believe Jesus, that's fine with me. Quote

Why did you not respond to all the scriptures I provided ? Why will you again ask this question in two days and act as if I had not already provided them ? Read the Bible, speaking in tongues is speaking another language on earth. Read Acts 2 it will tell you. Acts 2:6-8 (6) Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language. (7) And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans? (8) And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born? Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
BibleOnly Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 It's so bizarre, you guys just say the same things over and over. 1Cr 14:2 For he that speaketh in an [unknown] tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth [him]; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries. Tongues was understood in Acts 2, but, the general principle in the Bible is that tongues is used to speak only to God, no man understands. Quote

Don't you think it was possible for Satan to appear as though he was the Holy Spirit in Acts 2? Don't you think it is possible that Benny Hinn's 'holy spirit' is really Satan impersonating the Holy Spirit? Can you show may ONE place where God ever used an evil man by forcing him to be converted by knocking him off his horse and making him go blind before what Saul/Paul said? The real God does not and would never do this. The real God would never make such an appearance as the one spoken of in Acts 2. Please notice that what Peter was alleged to have said about this was a total lie and the real Holy Spirit would not have Peter lying about anything. It is my educated opinion that anyone who speaks in tongues is following a god that is not the God of Creation. Why? I have personally experanced all of this by being knocked off my chair during a church meeting where the pastor was healing people by hitting them on the forehead and making them fall over backwards with people catching them. I was then laughing so loud everyone looked at me as I too was rolling around on the ground. But as soon as I shouted for Satan to leave me alone in the name of Jesus, I was myself again. Yes, the experance was orgasmic I would say and very much spirit filled, but with the wrong spirit. Same for the real vision I once had. This too ended abruptly when I demanded that Satan leave me alone in the name of Jesus. As I have personally experanced, one can be totally confused as to who and what is the real spirit until they have a standard to measure it by--and this is none other than the words of Jesus Christ given to us by His eyewitnesses. If it does not agree, then that spirit is Satan. Quote
BibleOnly Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 You are deluded, and I don't have time to waste on this, sorry. If you accepted the bible, I would discuss it. If you base your views on experience, and reject the Bible, I have no time for you. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 BO, you made a statement that is serious--that I am deluded and am following or practicing a lie. I asked you to show me and not just tell me as what you say means nothing with the evidence supporting your poke at me, and you must be able to do this by using the words of Jesus. Since I gave you that opportunity and you refuse to do so, then the readers here can place a value on your words with no proof. My words are always backed by the words of Jesus. You have chosen the same thing that the Rich Young Ruller chose, and that was that he had no time to follow Jesus Christ and become complete (perfect). (Matt. 19) Quote
ClubV12 Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 BibleOnly, this certainly could apply to you! "You are deluded, and I don't have time to waste on this, sorry." Times just about for me on discussing your theology, it has become clear it is rather pointless to continue. Quote

12tribes Posted December 5, 2011 Posted December 5, 2011 1 Cor 14 is not a lie but, you are putting your own interpretation into it instead of letting the Bible interpret it. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
BibleOnly Posted December 5, 2011 Author Posted December 5, 2011 Show me then. Why do you claim that Paul talks about 'false tongues' yet he never does. Where does he say anything that you claim ? Quote
ClubV12 Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Others will have to deal with BO on these issues, he has correctly ascertained,,,, "...then you're wasting both our time." Yup, that about covers it for me, I'm done. Quote
BibleOnly Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 You're welcome :-) Thanks for broadening my understanding of the SDA view. I expected it to involve explaining away verses that don't agree with you, but I had no idea how you did it. Now I at least have some notion, which was my goal. Quote

"I EXPECTED it to involve explaining away verses that don't agree with you." Now that you FOUND what YOU were EXPECTING. . . "GO and spread it to the ends of the earth for time is short for that is YOUR MISSION. . ." (The voice of GOD to BibleOnly.) "7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so is he"(Prov 23:7) Some people have NO sense of humor. . . Q.E.D. Quote Satanic Verses-Salman Rushdie.
BibleOnly Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 Gee - do we need to keep rehashing this ? I disagree with you. I gave you a chance. You couldn't answer me. Let's move on. Quote
12tribes Posted December 6, 2011 Posted December 6, 2011 Show me then. Why do you claim that Paul talks about 'false tongues' yet he never does. Where does he say anything that you claim ? As I said the problem is not the Bible but, your interpretation of it. You need to match all the texts together on tongues, you cannot take one verse from 1 Cor 14 and then tell us what it means, you should be using the Bible to tell us what it means. Quote Galatians 3:29(29) And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
BibleOnly Posted December 6, 2011 Author Posted December 6, 2011 You can't take one passage in the Bible and use it to prove another is a lie. Acts 2 is clear what happened on that day. 1 Cor 14 is clear on how tongues works in the church. Other verses I have quoted back up what Paul writes. The real issue is, if you're right, 1 Cor 12-14 says that in the SDA church, 2-3 people should speak in foreign languages under inspiration of God, and 2-3 people who don't know those languages should interpret under the same inspiration, and that this will only end when Jesus returns. If you don't do this, then you disobey any interpretation of tongues, according to these chapters. And, of course, based on your total lack of any experience of the things Paul talks about, you're free to make up any interpretation of why you don't see them, that you like. Quote
Q.E.D. Posted December 7, 2011 Posted December 7, 2011 And, of course, based on your total lack of any experience of the things Paul talks about, you're free to make up any interpretation of why you don't see them, that you like. You're so kind and tender hearted BibleOnly! "I'm filled with the Holy Spirit. . .I'm FILLED with the Holy Spirit! I speak in tongues. . ." Q.E.D. Quote Satanic Verses-Salman Rushdie.
BibleOnly Posted December 7, 2011 Author Posted December 7, 2011 I am trying to ignore you, but in this case, what does kind have to do with it ? You don't speak in tongues, therefore it's obvious you're speaking based on a lack of experience, and therefore there's nothing God has to do to prove your interpretation Quote
