Does the Bible Condemn Homosexual Practices?

Someone stated on another discussion that the Bible says nothing about homosexuality.

Homosexuality practice is any sexual relations between people of the same gender. For example when males have sexual contact or relations with other males-- or when females have sexual contact or relations with other females-- there is homosexuality. The Bible condemns this, and Jesus also taught that when people desire to have homosexual relations, it is a sin.

Here are a few of the primary Bible verses which condemn homosexual practices:

Leviticus 18:22

You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.

Leviticus 20:13

If a man lies with a male as with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination; they shall surely be put to death; their blood is upon them.

Romans 1:26-28

For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; [27] and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.

[28] And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done.

1 Cor. 6:9-11

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, [10] nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. [11] And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.

1 Tim. 1:9-10

understanding this, that the law is not laid down for the just but for the lawless and disobedient, for the ungodly and sinners, for the unholy and profane, for those who strike their fathers and mothers, for murderers, [10] the sexually immoral, men who practice homosexuality, enslavers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is contrary to sound doctrine,

Genesis 1:27-28

So God created man in his own image,

in the image of God he created him;

male and female he created them.

[28] And God blessed them. And God said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth."

Genesis 2:21-25

So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. [22] And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. [23] Then the man said,

"This at last is bone of my bones

and flesh of my flesh;

she shall be called Woman,

because she was taken out of Man."

[24] Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. [25] And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

Exodus 20:14

"You shall not commit adultery.

Genesis 18:20-21

Then the Lord said, "Because the outcry against Sodom and Gomorrah is great and their sin is very grave, [21] I will go down to see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry that has come to me. And if not, I will know."

Genesis 19:1-15

The two angels came to Sodom in the evening, and Lot was sitting in the gate of Sodom. When Lot saw them, he rose to meet them and bowed himself with his face to the earth [2] and said, "My lords, please turn aside to your servant's house and spend the night and wash your feet. Then you may rise up early and go on your way." They said, "No; we will spend the night in the town square." [3] But he pressed them strongly; so they turned aside to him and entered his house. And he made them a feast and baked unleavened bread, and they ate.

[4] But before they lay down, the men of the city, the men of Sodom, both young and old, all the people to the last man, surrounded the house. [5] And they called to Lot, "Where are the men who came to you tonight? Bring them out to us, that we may know them." [6] Lot went out to the men at the entrance, shut the door after him, [7] and said, "I beg you, my brothers, do not act so wickedly. [8] Behold, I have two daughters who have not known any man. Let me bring them out to you, and do to them as you please. Only do nothing to these men, for they have come under the shelter of my roof." [9] But they said, "Stand back!" And they said, "This fellow came to sojourn, and he has become the judge! Now we will deal worse with you than with them." Then they pressed hard against the man Lot, and drew near to break the door down. [10] But the men reached out their hands and brought Lot into the house with them and shut the door. [11] And they struck with blindness the men who were at the entrance of the house, both small and great, so that they wore themselves out groping for the door.

Then the men said to Lot, "Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. [13] For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it." [14] So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, "Up! Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city." But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting.

[15] As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, "Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city."

2 Peter 2:4-8

For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; [5] if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; [6] if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; [7] and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked [8] (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righ teous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard);

Jude 1:7

just as Sodom and Gomorrah and the surrounding cities, which likewise indulged in sexual immorality and pursued unnatural desire, serve as an example by undergoing a punishment of eternal fire.

Rev. 22:14-15

Blessed are they that do his commandments, that they may have right to the tree of life, and may enter in through the gates into the city. [15] For without are dogs, and sorcerers, and whoremongers [the sexually immoral], and murderers, and idolaters, and whosoever loveth and maketh a lie.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Homosexuality, among other things, dishonors our Creator. Yet, to those who do not believe there is a Creator, it is just normal human behavior. The beings who colonized this planet with life gave us guidelines to prevent us from turning this world into a septic tank of rebellion, but alas, those who try to defend the teachings of YHVH are portrayed as bigots and morons.

Someday there will be a day of reckoning. Those who pass the test and are chosen to become members of the Kingdom of God will have all memories of this life deleted. Then, there will be no more unbelievers and rebels to laugh to scorn those who choose to love the LORD and serve him. Those who are chosen will walk upon the ashes of the God-Haters with no fear of death.

John that is an excellent list showing what the Bible really does say about this subject. It is every bit as clear as the Bible statements about earth and all life on planet earth created in 7 actual evenings and mornings.

Thus the only choice is to accept or to do as Bravus chooses to do - declare the Bible to be in error and man to be in the right.

And so each one must choose, and then the second Coming.

Have not seen you here for a long time John and I've been wondering what happened and hoped it was nothing serious...

Anyway, I've heard through the grapevine, that there is a book in the process in which the theam of the book is how to read the Bible in context and not just take out verses that we end up reading information into, and what is being used as examples for this are the texts on homosexuality.

The Bible, as you pointed out John, definetely talks about it. It is not seen as an alternative lifestyle, and a high sexual standard is demanded. However the argument is we being fair to those texts in their context, and how does the Bible expect us to apply these texts, and is our current popular application really fair to the Bible.

It is pretty plain to me what the Bible says of homosexuality, Read,

Ro 1:24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:

Ro 1:25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.

Ro 1:26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:

Ro 1:27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.

Ro 1:28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;

Ro 1:29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,

Ro 1:30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,

Ro 1:31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:

Ro 1:32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

I agree with you, Kevin, that the Bible does not see homosexuality as an alternative lifestyle.

But do you believe that God's Word condemns the practice of homosexuality? Is its practice sinful?

John 3:16-17

I left it out because I was sure you knew it yourself.

It's where Jesus says that desiring something sinful is also a sin.

Not only is the act of fornication a sin but the desire to commit fornication is a sin. The law of God is not only concerned with our behavior but it is also concerned with our desires and our thoughts.

"Fornication"=all sexual immortality.

Jesus said: "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery:

But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. {Matt. 5: 27, 28}

John that is an excellent list showing what the Bible really does say about this subject.

Here are other relevant verses that I left out of the list:

1 Cor. 6:18--- Flee fornication. Every sin that a man doeth is without the body; but he that committeth fornication sinneth against his own body.

6:19 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost [which is] in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

6:20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

"Fornication"= all forms of sexual immorality.

English Standard Version:

"Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body." {1 Cor. 6: 18}

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

It's always important to read the Bible in context, of course, but do you think this book you speak of will tell us that the Bible doesn't condemn the practice of homosexuality, after all?

One don't need to take nothing out of context with these few verses to see it is condemned, Please read em,

Unfortunately, a couple weeks ago I was watching "Searching for Answers" on LLBN. It's the show where all the old people sit around in a half circle talking about various Bible subjects and they made the Bible seem very very ambiguous on the topic of homosexuality especially as it appears in the writings of Paul where they question its translation into English.

That's like saying that Amos wrote against sin, therefore "Amos condemns homosexuality". Jesus did not mention homoesxuality. He mentioned sexual immorality. You assume that he means homosexuality, which was not recognized as we know it now until a few centuries ago. Before then it was seen as about power, pagan ritual, and sterility. Then people began to recognize that a few seemed to live their whole lives almost exactly like everyone else except in who they happen to be attracted to.

One's so-called sexual orientation may not have been understood 2000 years ago in the same way it's presented in the press today. However, I can assure you that homosexual sex has existed for thousands of years and has never been acceptable to God.

Indeed homosexuality is not the newly invented rocket science that some would have it.

That sin is as old as Sodom and Gomorrah (maybe even older) according to the Bible.

Jesus mentioned fornication and immorality, and they include homosexual practices. However, Jesus doesn't have to mention homosexuality by name in order for the Bible to condemn it. Christ inspired both the Old Testament and the New Testament. All of Scripture is God-breathed and is the Word of God.

What you seem to be saying is that God is OK with sex between males or between famales as long as it's not about power, pagan ritual and sterility. So apparently what you're saying is that if I simply want to be with a man because I like his body, or have a sexual desire for him, that's fine with God.

You might say the same about people who want sex with animals-- it's ok as long as it isn't in a particular context.

But that isn't true. The Bible condemns all forms of sex outside of a marriage relationship between a man and a woman. And it doesn't matter what the context is for sex between humans and animals-- it is still wrong.

John 3:16-17

It didn't have to be called "homosexuality" in order for sex between two men or between two women to be sinful. It is still fornication and immorality. Look up "fornication" in a good theological dictionary. You'll see that it includes homosexuality. It doesn't have to name each separate class of immorality in order for them to be sinful. God gives us principles and then expects us to use our brains in applying the principles. For instance, if God tells us to not commit immorality, he expects us to be able to figure out He means things like men having sex with dogs and sheep or pigeons. The same principle applies to males having sex with males.

Do you actually suppose that while Joseph knew it was a sin against God for him to have sex with Potipher's wife, Joseph would have been OK with having sex with another guy? What are you thinking, SivartM?

Do you have any Bible evidence that God is Ok with sex between men or between women? If so, can you show it?

I'm not surprised. I believe the day will come-- perhaps sooner than we might think-- that some SDA churches will accept openly practicing gays as members of the church. [We already have SDA pastors and theologians who favor it.] When that happens, they will also doubtless be accepted as pastors.
