I have to say that I think you are wrong about SDA teaching vegetarianism because not once in the churches I have attended and so attend do they teach that. Yes, they do teach having a healthy lifestyle but they do not actually teach what you say. I must say that many of the SDAs in here are quite the fundamentialists.

You must be sleeping alot while at church then OW. It is the topic of many sermons. I travel a great deal and have been to countless churches and it is a common topic both specifically and implied. How many potlucks have meat??? I have seen very few.

Seems to me that should be unneeded as you provided dates and names. Documentation for those that require it are just a Google click away.

That's simply because so many people are lazy and would rather call names and be rude then to spend 30 seconds to search the topic out on the net. Evidence of the world in which we live where everyone wants everything done for them.

This entire topic is a joke. Why is it important what Jesus was? This is just vanity, so many want to just be able to vindicate themselves and their beliefs by being able to say "Jesus was a member of my church." I really dont see evidence for it and I don't think jesus would identify himself as any religion because doing so would just be a means of division and the last thing he wanted to do was divide. Jesus was here to save all of his creation, he saw everyone as his children, not as adventists, catholics, ext. The human need to lump everyone into groups is vile. Jesus was the Son of God, sent to save mankind from their sins. It's that simple, so stop trying to lump him into human categories.

This all stems from the human need to feel important, just like when the actor came out and said not to watch his show because it was moral garbage. SDA's came out of the woodwork to claim him as a member of our church. The same with Ben Carson right now. Can't tell you the number of SDA's that have came to me, called me, im'd me and said "did you see Ben, hes an adventist you know?" Like I wouldn't know since ive been Adventist all my life and educated in an adventist academy. LOL

Here's a better question than the one provided. Do you really think Jesus would be happy about you trying to shove him into our one religious category when he came to save ALL of mankind? Do you think he likes division?

I am sorry but it is NOT a topic of many sermons at all in the churches I attend. I realize that no meat is served at potlucks, but that is not a sermon. Sorry, but I respectiviely disagree with you and you have no idea what kind of sermons we have in this area. You see, in this area we actually care more about the Bible than EGW or her health issues.

BTW, don't ever accuse me of sleeping in church!!!

:like:, very much!

My experience with God is that, every time I try to put Him in a box, I look like an idiot; cuz He jumps right out and shows me how limited my thinking is. Jesus came to save the world; not just SDA's. He came to gather all men to Himself; not just one particular denomination. I believe that a pioneer of the SDA Church who is quoted herein more frequently that the Bible wrote a book called "The Desire of Nations", not "The Desire of Adventists".

If this is a sample of your openness and forthrightness, you will be a welcome addition here. It is easy to get frustrated with some folks here; so it is important to keep our words tender and sweet, in case we have to eat them later on.

It almost seems selfish to me to claim that Jesus is a Seventh-day Adventist. WHy should we limit him with being just an SDA?

Limit Him to his own religion?

I was just speaking in terms of the set of doctrines that are held in common. What other denominations hold to all of them?

in Christ,

Bob

Since it has come to my attention lately that sometimes people post well into a thread - without knowing the context from the OP - here it is --

============================================

Was Christ a Seventh-day Adventist - for all intents and purposes?

Quote:

Christ was a Seventh-day Adventist, to all intents and purposes. It was He who called Moses into the mount and gave him instruction for His people.... In awful grandeur Christ made known the law of Jehovah, giving, among other charges, this charge: “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.” My brother, you have not placed upon the Sabbath the sanctity that is required by God. Irreverence has come in, and an example has been set that the Lord does not approve. He is not honored and glorified. {MM 49.4}

I recently (as in - the last two weeks) came across the evangelist and speaker Randy Skeete in a number of youtube videos.

Here is one from GYC where he explores the implications of the quote above.

I think it is a challenge to SDA's to show a greater more perfect divine love for everyone, and show that denomination does not in any way hinder the love of God being poured on the world. If we were like Jesus we would have the power to bring the world to a decision, for or against God.

Can Jesus find a place in our church and in our hearts so our purpose can be fulfilled?

the majority of God's people are outside of the SDA church. and there is a reason.

Actually Ozark Woman I have been in many many churches, (many hundreds at least) and I have also worked for a few conferences so i know a bit about the subject. It's nice to assume that I don't have experience "in your area" but I have actually been to alot of churches in MO since I'm a professional caver and travel there often..and I worked for a neighboring conference. While i obviously can't remember every sermon i have heard I do remember one i heard that was particularly vicious against meat. It was in Sullivan, MO a few years back. So maybe you arent hearing them but that means very little because they are out there.

So let me get this straight. The Sermon is all that matters?? How people act in and out of church doesn't matter? It's not a belief held by the church unless OW has heard it in a local sermon? I have been to churches that have many members that wear pounds of jewelry and many members that even have tattoos and yet don't allow meat at their meals.

Also, I NEVER mentioned EGW in ANY of my posts on this topic. I prefer the bible myself and I do actually eat meat. The church however does recognize EGW as a profit and the importance of vegetarian diet so to say they don't teach it is a blatant lie. Adventist hospitals, schools, community organizations, don't serve meat. It's taught in Adventist schools. (former highschool and college student here) It's not served at most employee party's, meetings or conferences. Employee Christmas parties that i've attended (held in non-adventist settings) have been "no meat" and some conferences wont pay for it if you try to order it. I worked at a conference where we have a yearly catered meal for 4000-5000 and the Hotel was required to do vegetarian. They were told we'd take our business elsewhere if they didnt.

Seems weird that a church that doesnt teach a vegetarian diet would go through such trouble to be...well...vegetarian.

Ummmm, Bob, you might try reading my post again. I never said Jesus didnt hold similar doctrines as the adventist church. I also never said that he didn't love everyone of the world. Quite the contrary actually. I said trying to force Jesus into our category (religion) is divisive.

I certainly don't believe telling everyone that Jesus was from my church helps me be saved nor does it help to save non-adventists. Lumping Jesus into a religion serves no purpose towards getting people to follow him. How about I said "Jesus was obviously a Catholic" on a public forum. Feels great if I'm catholic but if you're not catholic does that make you want to convert and follow Jesus the Catholic?

I find trying to tell everyone that "Jesus was an Advenist" is just done to make Adventist's seem superior and believing oneself to be superior is often the sign of a delusion mind.

I'll continue to maintain that Jesus came to save us ALL, loves us ALL, and would not identify himself as anything other than the Son of God and Savior of Man.

As it turns out - a number here would like to follow the 1John 2:3-7 statements about being like Jesus IF we claim to know Him.

The statement you are making above has strong emotional appeal but in the details it does not hold up.

in Christ,

Bob

Wow Bob, you really think my statement of Jesus coming to save all Mankind and that he wouldnt be divisive, is "emotional appeal" and "doesn't hold up?"

I'll be praying for you.

I think this topic is indicitive of an issue that impacts others areas of our beliefs and lives.

Are we more interested in making Christ like us or in becomming more like Christ? Did Christ believe in the same as us or do we belive in the same as Christ? Does our validity come from being Christ like or does Christ become more valid because of us?

How can God be an adherent to a man-made organization? How can the Alpha and the Omega be a Seventh-day Adventist? Are you kidding?

I'm proud of my church. I have devoted most of my working life to the church but to suggest that Jesus is a Seventh-day Adventist seems like an odd and hubristic thing to do.

How can God be an adherent to a man-made organization?

Was God an adherent to the Jewish organization? It had many faults, yet Jesus Christ was a part of it and certainly was an adherent to it, despite the fact that certain aspects of it were man-made.

Do you believe that the Seventh-day Adventist Church was raised up by God? To say that God is an adherent to the SDA Church is not to say that the church is perfect or that God has no serious criticisms of the church. Rev. 3: 14ff certainly shows that God isn't in agreement with many things in the church. But the very fact that God inspired those words about the church shows that He loves His last-day church.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

No. He was the object of its worship or at least he was supposed to be.

Jesus was born a Jew. He observed the rites and rituals but ultimately was killed by the very people who led the religion. If he was an adherent he didn't stick to it very well. There in lies the weakness of the notion that Jesus was an adherent of anything man-made. If you try to put God in a box he will break out.

Jesus, who is God, said, "Salvation is of the Jews."

When God came into the world, He came as an adherent to the Jewish church, didn't He?

If God came into the world today, wouldn't He be a Seventh-day Adventist? (He would no doubt have many strong criticisms of it, too, but that doesn't mean He would reject it. He would doubtless have the same things to say that He inspired Ellen White to say.)

Yes, and the reason I'm SDA is that I have no doubt that the SDA church was raised up by God. That means I have no doubt that if Christ were to come to this earth today, He would be an adherent to the SDA church. Again, that doesn't mean Christ would have no criticims of the church. He would say the same things that He inspired Ellen White to say in the Testimonies for the Church.

Shouldn't we try to do what we believe God would do if He were on earth? The NT calls us to imitate God.

If you don't believe God is an adherent to the SDA church, doesn't that mean you should also not be an adherent to the SDA church?

What do you believe God would do in relation to the SDA church if He were here today? Would He counsel people to leave the church? Or would He urge SDAs to call people out of Babylon into the SDA church?

John 3:16-17

Not really. God is to be worshiped but that does not make him a worshiper.

Quote:
Jesus, who is God, said, "Salvation is of the Jews."

Of course. They were his vehicle. Jesus himself did not need salvation, he was the savior.

Quote:
When God came into the world, He came as an adherent to the Jewish church, didn't He?

To say that Jesus came as an adherent is to diminish the mission of Jesus. "...my kingdom is not of this world"...he said. The disciples thought he was an adherent. He came as the fulfillment of the mission of the church not as a follower or a disciple. In reality he broke away that's why they killed him!

Quote:

Why would he do that?

God is larger than any denomination or any group. To say he is a member of any religious group is to diminish God.

It's like God is black/white/male female.

Lazarus, none of that is evidence that Christ was not an adherent to the Jewish religion of His day. He taught that people should obey what the Pharisees and scribes said to do, but He also taught that they shouldn't do what the Pharisees and scribes did. He would probably say much the same to us today. Jesus also said, "Salvation is of the Jews." Being an adherent to either the Jewish religion or to the SDA Church doesn't require that everything about either of those organizations be what God wants. Of course they were and are imperfect. God never required Israel to be perfect in order to Him to call people into the Jewish faith. It was the same with the first century church: despite its imperfections, God still called people into the Christian faith. That's the way it is with regard to the SDA Church.

John 3:16-17

Yes, and the reason I'm SDA is that I have no doubt that the SDA church was raised up by God. That means I have no doubt that if Christ were to come to this earth today, He would be an adherent to the SDA church.

Jews believed Jesus would restore the Kingdom to them because they believed that their nation was chosen by God. They were chosen by God but their pride led them to misunderstand Gods plan. Jesus isn't coming to earth today as an SDA. There is no scripture than would support that idea.

He is returning to earth to claim his people. There will be SDA's and others in that number. There will be people of other faiths in that number. He'll be returning as Jesus Christ Savior of the world.
