Kountzer Posted November 30, 2013 Posted November 30, 2013 It's amazing to me how much people on this msg board, who are conservative and on the right, love to invoke the names of Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton. I can't remember the last time I saw Jackson in the media. Maybe he's been in it, but I haven't seen him. I recently saw a snippet of a sound bite showing Al Sharpton, but I didn't pay much attention. Mind you, I am an aware African American. I keep up with stuff in the news media more than most. As I've said before, I see and hear those two guy's name mentioned more here than anywhere else. Quote I prayed for twenty years but received no answer until I prayed with my legs. Frederick Douglass

It is interesting that what has been posted has not come from Fox News, but some of the more liberal news.org You were the one that wanted to turn this in to something contrived to incite racial hatred. It was not posted because the attackers are black, but rather the senselessness of this so called game. Moderators Bravus Posted December 1, 2013 Moderators Posted December 1, 2013 If the issue is fear of youth that leads to youth getting shot, the same concerns apply. If *anyone* is senselessly assaulting anyone else as a 'game', that is illegal, immoral and horrible. Such people should be arrested and stopped. But 'crazes' of this kind are typically used to demonise an 'outgroup' and justify punitive measures against them - up to and including being shot twice. That's how teens with packs of Skittles get shot to death. Have a look at this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Central_Park_Jogger_case I'm not justifying any assaults, or pretending assaults don't happen. I'm saying that - at least until the media coined the term and started the panic - the 'knockout game' was a myth. That's not to claim that no assaults occurred - clearly they did. But it was not a 'thing' until it was made a thing. Treat assault as assault, call it assault: among other things, that avoids the temptation for disaffected youth to 'copycat' what they are told other youth are doing. Vilify me or my posts all you like: I'll keep challenging for the truth and asking for the evidence. Quote Truth is important
Moderators Bravus Posted December 1, 2013 Moderators Posted December 1, 2013 (I only mentioned Fox News because I have access to all the same print media as any American citizen, and read them more broadly than most. It is only the 'benefits' of watching American TV that I lack in terms of information... and, frankly, I don't miss it - since in many cases it seems to somehow impart a sort of 'antiknowledge' - and certainly 'antiwisdom') Quote Truth is important
cricket Posted December 1, 2013 Posted December 1, 2013 All it takes is one group of two or more to call it a game, then it comes into existence. As Bravus said, the media labeled it, and youths are apt to 'copycat'. Thus, the games, they have begun. Quote

When I lived in NY these same things were happening than, which was 30/40 years ago, but they called these assaults at that time. Which is what they are. Uncalled for assaults have always occurred. So is your problem now that there seems to be a new rash of these assaults that someone has coined a phrase to describe it? Where was the hand wringing over the presses behavior concerning George Zimmerman. For the first time someone is referred to as a white-hispanic.Why was that? Had he been referred to as a hispanic it would have been one minority killing another minority. Goes on all the time.Young black men are killing large numbers of other young black men in large numbers.Much more than white on black crime. Didn't hear much objection to the deliberate editing of tapes and photos by major news sources to give a false impression. These assualts have one thing in common in that it is not robbery. Did you have concern with the reporting when many white people were attacked all in the name of Martin? I believe there was even a very young boy set on fire all for "Martin" If you are concerned that reporting this and calling it a "knock out" game I would think you would have had some concern for the innocent white people that were harmed. 'Knockout game': Teens attack innocent people just for fun Jeff Rossen and Avni PatelTODAY Nov. 25, 2013 at 7:17 AM ET Video: Police are on the alert about the “knockout game”: Teenagers attacking innocent people just for fun. NBC investigative correspondent Jeff Rossen reports. Pennsylvania schoolteacher Jim Addlespurger was walking home, minding his own business, when a group of teenagers knocked him out in broad daylight with no warning at all. He dropped face-down to the curb. It's called the "knockout game": teenagers knocking people out for the fun of it. They even target women and children. Cases are piling up, and police are on high alert. "I was hit with one punch that knocked me to the cold concrete," said Addlespurger, who has since recovered from the attack, which was caught on video. "It's a horrific thing to see, and I'm fortunate that I'm alive here to tell you about it." Police fear the knockout game has been spreading, with cases from San Diego to St. Louis and Chicago. In Syracuse, N.Y., two men were killed in a possible knockout case. In New York City, police are investigating at least seven attacks. One knockout game video shows a woman walking down the street when a stranger runs up and clocks her from behind — a sucker punch so brutal, the victim lies on the sidewalk, unable to move. In New Jersey, it appears suspects filmed their own attack, laughing and bragging about it. "Knockout game" TODAY Surveillance video shows an apparent victim of the "knockout game" fallen on the street. "It appears these are just random acts of violence," said former FBI profiler Clint Van Zandt. "There's no robbery, there's no rhyme or reason; it's just simply youths making a decision they're going to punch somebody out — sometimes as simple as $5 bet between themselves." Seventeen-year-old Marvel Weaver admits he played a version of the knockout game using a stun gun. He was caught and is now in jail. "It was a lesson learned," Weaver told TODAY. "Someone throws it out there: 'Want to play this?' And people go along with it and one thing leads to another, and it just goes all downhill." "These kids are acting, maybe not thinking and not knowing the consequence of what could happen," said knockout game victim Jim Addlespurger. In New York City, a man arrested for playing the knockout game has been charged with a hate crime. Police believe the victim was targeted because he's Jewish. Now, as these videos end up on YouTube, officials are worried about copycat attacks in cities nationwide. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Moderators Bravus Posted December 2, 2013 Moderators Posted December 2, 2013 Interesting that the claim was made that it was me who raised race, but we're now hearing all about how the attackers were black and I have no sympathy for the innocent white victims. Never mind that some were Asian and some Jewish, just in the stories of random assaults that I have read. It was always about race on the part of the OP poster. To pretend otherwise is disingenuous - as the more recent comments clearly demonstrate. Quote Truth is important

Bonnie continues her wanton attacks on people of color unchecked and pretends that others bring up the issue. There is some abnormal psychopathology that produces this behavior. Bonne, why don't you start a thread about white on white crime for a change. give it a break. Quote Great spirits have always found violent opposition from mediocrities.
