JoeMo Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Some might think that they are the same God; but somehow Islam lost track of the God of love and mercy; and embraced the god of hate and retribution. Not just Islam; but some so-called "Christian" sects have done the same - like the Westboro Babtist Church in Kansas. The God I worship would never muster His people into homocidal/suicibal mobs. Not just Islam; but some so-called "Christian" sects have done the same - like the Westboro Babtist Church in Kansas. The God I worship would never muster His people into homocidal/suicibal mobs. So what your saying is that all Christians don't have the same God either? I would agree with that to an extent as I really believe Christians are followers of a pantheon whether they realize it or not. However. I don't think that the Gods of Islam or of Christianity are really telling their followers to do any of this. It is crazed zealous madmen that are hungry for power, wealth and filled with bitterness and greed that are responsible for the hate and retribution crowd. Their gods may not be doing anything to stop them but I don't think they are telling them to do any such thing. Quote
JoeMo Posted June 20, 2014 Posted June 20, 2014 Quote: I don't think that the Gods of Islam or of Christianity are really telling their followers to do any of this. I think you're right in most cases. "God told me to do it" is equivalent to "the devil made me do it". It's just a bs excuse to put the blame on or divert the attention to someone (or something) else. Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 20, 2014 Moderators Posted June 20, 2014 Quote: Do you believe that the God of Islam is the same God as the God of Christianity and that Christians and Muslims worship the same God? There are actually two (2) aspects to this question. 1) Scholars in this subject generally believe that Christians, Islamics and Jews generally worship the same God, with the exception that Christians generally worship a Trinity. Of course, that is a major difference. So, if you bring that into play, the answer is No. If you do not, one could answer Yes. 2) However, Christians are divided as to their understanding of the character of God, and more. In that same sense, Islamics differ from Christians in the understanding of God. so, there are differences here that are important. Quote Gregory
LifeHiscost Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 The major difference I see in the perception of God from the Christian standpoint as opposed to any and all other religions is that only in Christianity is the disciple's ultimate living present and future based on the living Christ within. "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."Galatians 2:20 KJV God cares! Moderators Gregory Matthews Posted June 21, 2014 Moderators Posted June 21, 2014 Quote: Scholars have been known to be wrong: Yes, and scholars have been known to be correct. Sometimes, the issue is not that of right or wrong, rather it is an issue of definition and how something is understood. When this is the case, it is better for one to "go with the flow," in an effort to not be misunderstood. As am example on which I have posted, SDAs give a different twist to the word "atonement," when used in a religious context, than the Christian world generally does. When communicating with other Christians on this subject, it is best for SDAs to understand this difference and to communicate in a manner where they are understood. Quote Gregory
Felix Florimon Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 That being said, I do believe that supernatural entities sometimes do influence out world view and decision making - perhaps more often than we consciously realize. That is highly consistent with the writing of the Apostle Paul when he said: “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms” (Ephesians 6:2)). I do personally believe that God is constantly using His Holy Spirit and His Holy angels in order to bring us closer to the truthful way and to eternal life while the Devil is constantly working through his evil angels with a commitment to induce us to accept doctrines of demons in order to destroy our relationship with the Creator and bring us to eternal destruction. Dr. Waite Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Even some Seventh-day Adventist Christians do not teach and believe that the only true God (John 17:3) is the Father of Jesus Christ based on being or existence. THE TRINITY IN SCRIPTURE Gerhard Pfandl Biblical Research Institute Silver Spring, MD Quote: At the baptism of Jesus the Father called him“my beloved Son.” The sonship of Jesus, however, is not ontological but functional. In the plan of salvation each member of the Trinity has accepted a particular role. It is a role for the purpose of accomplishing a particular goal, not a change in essence or status. Quote grw
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted June 21, 2014 Administrators Posted June 21, 2014 Here is the crux of the fallacy of this question IMHO - It confuses mistaken concepts about God with mistaken identification of God. Everyone has mistaken concepts about God. That does not mean that you have the wrong god. It just means what you know of God is wrong. As has been stated numerous times on these forums, "Allah" is just the word for or name of God in the Arabic language as well as a number of other languages. Arabic speaking Christians refer to God as "Allah". Consider the situation of sincere worshipers of a supreme being that know of nothing else but that they believe there is such a being. They believe many things about such a being that have little or no similarity to what we believe about God, but they sincerely seek after and are faithful to whatever idea they believe about that god, no matter what they call it. They die knowing of nothing else. Does God judge them as His own? Will they be in His eternal kingdom? Who are we to judge? Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)

Yes, the Koran has some, in my opinion, mistaken concepts about God and salvation. However, based in part on my reading of the Koran, I do believe that Islam worships that same God the Father that Christians worship, but with some mistaken concepts about that God. Islam teaches that Jesus Christ is a prophet of God and is the messiah. "When the angels said, 'O Mary, ALLAH gives thee glad tidings of a son through a word from HIM; his name shall be the Messiah, Jesus, son of Mary, honoured in this world and in the next, and of those who are granted nearness to God;'And he shall speak to the people in the cradle, and when of middle age, and he shall be of the righteous. She said, 'My Lord, how shall I have a son, when no man has touched me? He said, 'Such is the way of ALLAH. HE creates what HE pleases. When HE decrees a thing HE says to it 'Be,' and it is;"—Qur'an, Surah 3:38-48 The true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. See John 4:21-24. Was Jesus Christ a trinitarian? Was Jesus Christ a SDA trinitarian? Did Jesus Christ teach that God is a unity of 3 co-eternal persons? Did Jesus Christ teach that we are to worship a person or being called "GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT"? Whatever the terminology to define a supreme being, if it is inconsistent to the Truth as revealed in the Word of the Creator, of which there is only One (Divine Creator), it is a lie of the god of this world. The primary purpose of the God of creation for those made in His image, is to give all of them back their royal heritage, which is the antithesis of incorrect doctrine. Let no one deceive you by any means; for that Day will not come unless the falling away comes first, and the man of sin is revealed, the son of perdition, who opposes and exalts himself above all that is called God or that is worshiped, so that he sits as God in the temple of God, showing himself that he is God."2 Thess 2:1-4 NKJV God cares! Sojourner Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 My 2c is that I do not feel that the God of Christianity can be taken to be the same as the God of Islam. Essentially because of the nature of the Godhead in Christianity. Such a description can never be used in Islam or Judaism to describe Allah or Yahweh. - Colossians 2:9…“For in Him dwelleth all the fulness of the godhead bodily.” Unitarianism, Chrislam, Bahai etc all readily embrace Christians and Christian philosophies into their teaching. Deepak Chopra gets up on Oprah's show and gives great speeches about the teachings of Jesus Christ and so forth. Yet the rub is that if you want to be a Unitarian or other, you have to reject the teaching of the Godhead of Christianity for the reason that Jesus Christ is not able to be worshipped as God by these other sects. They will embrace some of Christianity, just not all.. Quote
hch Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 No. I stand by exactly what I said. In Islam, JC is a true prophet. But, Mohamud (sp) is the last and therefore most important prophet. If Islamists accept Jesus as their Messiah, but not as their personal Savior, they need Missionaries to take them the gospel. "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). Jesus was saying, "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no Muslim can come to the Father, but by me" (John 14:6). So those scholars that assert that Muslims worship God, are not saying the same thing that Jesus said. There is no truth in their fanciful ideas. I agree with your point, But according to the "scholars" it has been alleged on this thread that Jews, Muslims, and Christians all worship God. And since it is impossible to worship God in TRUTH if the worshiper does not accept Jesus, it looks like a false sense of security.
