Ron Lambert Posted June 26, 2015 Posted June 26, 2015 I have long believed we should be tolerant of homosexuals, just as we extend tolerance to people who use tobacco or alcohol and adulterers (all these can be forgiven--even the polygamy of Biblical patriarchs). We must still, of course, point homosexuals to the Scriptures which plainly show their behavior to be judged by God as sinful, and urge them to receive therapy for what is in fact an aberrant behavior. But what God cannot be tolerant of is a direct challenge to His authority, when people presume to redefine what marriage is, defying God's definition. If same-sex unions were called unions, or partnerships, or anything other than marriage, there would be no problem. But daring to defy God's authority in one of the two divine institutions God established in Eden, before the Fall of Mankind, can only lead to the significant removal of divine protection from our nation and from our world. Today's Supreme Court 5-4 split decision is the real and true beginning of the end for America. The troubles that will now come on America in the form of natural disasters and man-made disasters, will eventually lead people to be willing to enforce a Sunday Law, where everyone is required to go to church for "moral instruction" on Sunday. All that the SCOTUS decision did was permit persons of the same sex to enter into a ready-made compendium of contractual and legal rights and obligations, which happen to be referred to as "marriage" (students of the English language will note that having one word with more than one meaning is hardly unusual, so don't get too excited about this state-created legal regime being referred to as "marriage" rather than "civil union"). Married heterosexuals will also note that state-created heterosexual "marriage" deviates significantly from biblical marriage as well. The logic is inescapable, just accept it. Paul had his "thorn in the flesh" too. He begged that God would remove, it but without relief. Many have speculated on what it was, but there is a reason it is not revealed, we all have our "thorn in the flesh". How will you deal with yours? I suppose we can all just give into it, yeah, that sounds good to me and I'm sure God will understand. The wisdom revealed here is gob smacking! Sure glad I came! Quote

We do know what the Bible says. Before we condemn homosexuals too much, let's put the issue in prospective. Very few people live out God's plan for their sexuality. What do I mean? How many heterosexuals never have pre-marital sex? How many people never look at pornography? How many never lustfully gaze at an attractive person they are not married to? So yes, we can talk about the Bible's condemnation of homosexuality but let's understand that sexuality itself is an area where most people fall short of God's plan. Homosexuality is complex. There is not one cause for all homosexuality. Some people seem to have been subject to a pre-natal condition, while in the womb, that caused them to be more prone to being homosexual. Others have been subject to circumstances as a child that caused them to develop into being gay. And some do simply choose the lifestyle - especially now that much of the social stigma has been removed. As a result of the varying causes, the success rate of those trying to get out of the lifestyle varies. It has been said that homosexuals and alcoholics are cousins of sorts. I refer to both of these conditions as disorders. Both have varying causes and the success rate of those trying to leave is not impressive in either group. The only thing God can't do is not love. He can do anything in our lives HE wills with our permission. But, I personally speaking, cannot hold God ransom to my expectations and desires unfulfilled. I learned that in my mid 30's I will step out in faith and trust Him regardless cause of His great love and humble work in me. He is the most beautiful being in all the Universe. Truitt GBU! It is not some far-fetched idea born within fundamental Christianity. Prior to 1973 homosexuality was classified as a mental illness by the American Psychiatric Association. It was declassified as a mental illness because apart from the homosexual behavior, homosexuals do not typically demonstrate any other psychological disturbance. This is also true with alcoholics. Apart from their alcoholic behavior, alcoholics do not typically demonstrate any other psychological disturbance. Thus the concept of the two being cousins was born. No issue brings out so much hatred from so many Catholics as homosexuality. Even after over 25 years as a Jesuit, the level of hatred around homosexuality is nearly unbelievable to me, especially when I think of all of the wonderful LGBT friends I have. The Catholic church must do a much better job of teaching what the Catechism says: that we should treat our LGBT brothers and sisters with "respect, sensitivity and compassion." But God wants more. God wants us to love. And not a twisted, crabbed, narrow tolerance, which often comes in the guise of condemnations, instructions and admonitions that try to masquerade as love, but actual love. Love means: getting to know LGBT men and women, spending time with them, listening to them, being challenged by them, hoping the best for them, and wanting them to be a part of your lives, every bit as much as straight friends are part of your lives.
