Ferguson is Everywhere, Mike Brown Anniversary Events in St. Louis

For those persons interested in following these events, here is some information from my local news channel regarding this weekend. Events happening in and around St. Louis marking the one year anniversary of Mike Brown's death:

• Friday: "Heal our City" Concert at 6 pm, The Ambassador
• Saturday: 9am, Silent March from Canfield to Normandy High; 2pm March from Vonderrit Myers Memorial; 7pm Ferguson Rocks concert at the Ready Room
• Sunday: 11:55am Moment of silence at  Canfield site; 12pm Silent march to Greater St. Mark Church; 9pm "Ferguson is Everywhere" concert at Fubar
• Monday: A Day of Civil Disobedience and a National Call to Action

The news stations have given no further information on the Monday events.

Ferguson one year later: It is now fashionable to vilify police regardless of the facts

From Washington, D.C. to Washington State it’s already happening.  In the nation's capital, the Metropolitan Police Department struggles to hire new officers while facing record attrition.  They do so while murder and violent crime have jumped after recent record lows.  In Washington State, there is a shortage of State Police to patrol the highways.  State police in Vermont and Wisconsin have also expressed concerns over recruiting shortages.  One recruiting officer in Madison says many potential candidates mention the lack of public support as a main factor for reconsidering police work.  News reports cite research by the International Association of Chiefs of Police showing an 80 percent decline in police applications in southern towns.

This would be an entirely different story if Michael Brown had gotten a hold of the officer's gun and shot him dead. Didn't that just happen in Shreveport?

While some may turn the boy into a saint and a martyr, others see a stupid kid committing suicide by cop.

And those same individuals fundamentally misunderstand the issues that Michael Brown's death raised. Unfortunately more people and police will die until things change.

Ferguson Looters are Stealing Everything From Milk to Dogs

Yesterday was the anniversary of the death of Michael Brown, and for the people of Ferguson, it was a day worth celebrating. They had themselves a grand old time, rioting and shooting and stealing everything they could get their hands on.

 

 

Ferguson looters are apparently proud of their actions tonight. They’ve gone to social media to brag about the stuff they’ve stolen. Even a poor little dog has been stolen and the scumbag who stole the poor dog tweeted about it.

Of course, it could be argued that they were just honoring Michael Brown’s memory, who was known to steal things and rough people up too. Besides, everyone knows that the best way to fight for social justice is by stealing things that don’t belong to you and shoot at innocent people.

When we lost our home in 1965 to a tornado the looting began within a half hour after it hit. The national guard was called out with orders "You Loot,We Shoot" Had an amazing calming effect on all the thugs wanting to loot. I wouldn't mind seeing a lot more aggressive action to reign in these thugs

Interesting. I live about 3 miles from Ferguson. Our street had half the houses destroyed by tornado in 2012, and no one came to loot.

That is the way it should be. Makes the whole ordeal a lot easier for those who have been hit. We weren,t so fortunate. We lived on an island on Lake Minnetonka and the looters came in by boat. That really wasn't the point tho.

I just found it interesting because looters had no interest in the houses on our street, but do seem to have an interest in the businesses only 3 miles from my home.

No problem. A strong stand of "If you loot and we catch you this is what you can expect" goes a long way in making looting a lot less attractive.

This could turn into a national holiday, Michael Brown Day, a day where people become looting, business-burning mobs, destroying other people's property or taking it home while police and national guard stand by, watching. On Michael Brown Day it will be OK to assault business owners and cops, and, shoot the cops dead if at all possible if you can take their guns away.

Too many liars have turned Michael Brown into a poor, innocent victim who never did anyone harm, murdered in cold blood as he pleaded for his life. Now, there's an empty prison cell that he will never occupy.

Sure, cops make mistakes, sometimes deadly, because they're human. Maybe they're trained to intimidate non-compliant law-breakers, escalating minor situations into major confrontations. Sometimes, rarely, cops are the criminals, too, who try to cover up their crimes with their badges.

Too bad the looters and arsonists aren't smart enough to become cops themselves. They could make their towns, and this world, a better place to live.

Last night was much less violent than the night before. Protesters did shut down a major highway in a rather strategic place and time yesterday. Several arrests were made.

I hope that today is a bit more peaceful. I spend a lot of time worrying about my 91 year old grandma who lives even closer to Ferguson than I do. She likes to get out of the house to go to IHOP and Walgreens. When tensions are high, there's no telling what may happen to her if she's on her own.

Regarding a national Mike Brown day, I don't know about that...several people in Columbia, MO tried to establish a Darren Wilson day, but that didn't get a great reception either.

There does seem to be a certain class that has created their own "victimhood" by their own lawlessness and disregard for authority. Gotta blame someone else for the conditions they themselves have created through ignorance, lack of initiative, loss of moral values, and disintegration of the family support unit.

And what are the changes you or these people are looking for?  As I see it, the issues raised by the M Brown incident is very simple - if/when confronted by law officers who are risking their lives to protect society, is it asking too much for a citizen to comply?  If the officer is guilty of misdeed, then pursue it through the courts.  That is far safer than confronting an armed person!
