Answer: The “I Have a Dream” speech, delivered by Martin Luther King Jr. from the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, remains one of the most famous speeches in history. Weaving in references to the country’s Founding Fathers and the Bible, King used universal themes to depict the struggles of African Americans, before closing with an improvised riff on his dreams of equality. The seventeen minute speech was immediately recognized as a highlight of the successful protest, and has endured as one of the signature moments of the civil rights movement.

Which state was named after a French king?

Answer: Louisiana was named after Louis XIV, King of France from 1643 to 1715. When Frenchman René-Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle claimed the interior of North America drained by the Mississippi River and its tributaries for his country in 1682, the explorer named it Louisiana in honor of Louis XIV. The suffix -ana is a Latin suffix that can refer to information relating to an individual or subject. Thus, roughly, Louis + ana carries the idea of “related to Louis.” The Louisiana Territory became American property after the U.S. purchased it from France in 1803.

Answer: The Snickers bar has an interesting story behind its name. Originally introduced to the public in 1930 by Franklin and Ethel Mars, the Snickers bar was named after their family horse. When that horse “Snickers” died, they named a candy bar after it. The original Snickers bars were sold for a nickel. Interestingly, the farm where Snickers had lived was called the Milky Way Farm, just like their other famous candy bar. Regardless of this name theme, Snickers candy bars live on as one of the best-selling candies in the world.

Answer: The Color Purple is a 1985 film directed by Steven Spielberg that tells the story of a young African American girl named Celie Harris and shows the problems African American women faced during the early 20th century. The Color Purple was nominated for eleven Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Actress for Whoopi Goldberg and Best Supporting Actress for both Margaret Avery and Oprah Winfrey. It failed to win any of them, tying the record set by 1977’s The Turning Point for the most Oscar nominations without a single win.

Answer: Australia is both a country and a continent. The country called Australia is a part of the continent that is also called Australia. The world recognizes 7 distinct continents: North America, South America, Africa, Europe, Asia, Antarctica, and Australia. Of the seven continents, Australia is the smallest by land mass and the second smallest by population, beaten only by Antarctica which has no permanent residents. While Australia may be small compared to other continents, it is the sixth largest country in the world by land mass.

Answer: The Basenji, an African hunting dog, is the only dog that cannot bark. This trait is probably due to the shallow laryngeal ventricle in its larynx. The Basenji does not bark, but rather makes a yodel noise. The Basenji produces an unusual yodel-like sound commonly called a "baroo." This trait also gives the Basenji the nickname "soundless dog." Some believe that the ability to bark was intentionally bred out of the breed in Central Africa, where a dog barking in the jungle was a clear giveaway to its enemies.

Answer: Walter Cronkite, was the legendary CBS Evening News anchor known as "the most trusted man in America." Cronkite never intended for this sign-off to become his signature line repeated nightly for decades. When he began anchoring the news in 1962, he’d planned to end each broadcast with a human interest story, followed by a brief off-the-cuff commentary or final thought. But producers told him there wouldn’t be enough time to do all that, so he quickly came up with “And that’s the way it is.” Years later, he still thought it sounded “too authoritative.”

Answer: France has managed to retain its crown as the most visited country in the world thanks to the 89 million visitors that came to see its sights in 2017. It goes without saying, but the French capital is a huge draw for foreign visitors –more than any other city in the world. There's the city's romantic image, the stunning architecture, the Louvre museum, and the iconic Eiffel Tower. With an estimated 82 million travelers, Spain was ranked as the second most visited country, overtaking the US, which was pushed into third. China and Italy complete the top five.

ps:Oh well, I either heard it wrong or there wrong!! :(

Which martial art means "empty hand" in Japanese?

Answer: Karate literally means "empty hand". It is also sometimes called "the way of the empty hand.” Karate is one of the most widely practiced martial art forms in the world. Modern karate developed out of martial arts forms practiced in Okinawa, an island that is now part of Japan. If karate had to be described in only one sentence, then the most suitable one may arguably be "You never attack first in karate." This is a maxim of Gichin Funakoshi (1868-1957), the Okinawan who brought karate to Japan in 1922, and who is accepted as the father of modern karate.

Answer: On this day in 1981, Iran released 52 Americans held hostage for 444 days, minutes after the presidency had passed from Jimmy Carter to Ronald Reagan. They returned to an adoring nation that gave them a ticker-tape parade and welcomed them home as heroes. They were besieged with flags, yellow ribbons and gifts, among them was a box from Major League Baseball. Inside was a lifetime unlimited pass to any major league baseball game. The lifetime pass entitled them to enter any regular-season game, along with one guest.

ps:I was thinking baseball, but that's life!!

Why Weren't the Hostages Released Until Reagan's Inauguration?

On the surface, it looks like mere timing, with Carter working endlessly to figure out a way to get the hostages out. But it was also a jab from the Iranians toward Carter, whose actions regarding the Shah and the revolution turned Carter into an enemy of the new Iranian government. It looked awful for Carter to have the hostages released when Reagan, to whom Carter had lost the election, was technically the president.

Why Didn't Reagan Say Anything About the Hostages During His Inauguration Ceremony?

Reagan did not want to mention anything about the hostage situation until he was sure that the hostages were out of the country's airspace. Reagan knew that Carter had been working with Algerian helpers to negotiate a release, but it would have been poor form for Reagan to announce anything while the hostages were still technically in Iranian territory.

How Did Carter Both Help and Hurt the Hostage Situation?

President Jimmy Carter and his administration supported the Shah, who was overthrown by the Iranian revolutionaries. Because they let the Shah into the U.S., the embassy in Tehran became a target -- and Iran had warned the embassy would be a target, too, which meant that the workers were kind of like sitting ducks. Carter also authorized a rescue attempt that went badly awry, resulting in several deaths (none of the hostages were harmed). However, Carter also worked like mad to secure the release of the hostages, even working during Reagan's inauguration.

How Did the Hostage Crisis Change Television News?

If you've ever watched Nightline, the late-night news analysis program, thank the hostage crisis and a TV network executive's one-track mind for the show's existence. The program was originally a nightly update show focusing on the hostage crisis that was started as a way to compete with late-night talk shows like The Tonight Show.

How Accurate Was the Film Argo?

Partially accurate. There really were a few American workers who avoided the main hostage-taking situation and managed to find shelter with the Canadian ambassador. However, the real "Canadian Caper" was not nearly as drama-filled, and the Canadians played a larger role in the escape than the film gave them credit for. The workers were given early tickets so that guards wouldn't be too alert, and they got on the plane and left. But that wouldn't have made for such a gripping movie script.

How Did the Song "Celebration" Become Linked to the Hostages?

Simple timing. The band Kool & The Gang released the song as part of their new album, and the song's upbeat tempo and name were perfect for a soundtrack to welcome the hostages home. There were rumors here and there that the song had been written specifically about the hostages, but it really was fortunate timing that the band released the song when it did.
