Which breakfast cereal asked if you "can you pinch more than an inch?"

Answer: Special K breakfast cereal was first introduced to the United States in 1955. Special K used to be marketed primarily as a low-fat cereal that can be eaten to help one lose weight. From the late 70s to the mid-80s, Special K ran an advertising campaign telling us that if we could pinch more than an inch of flesh at our waists, we needed to go on the Special K diet. “Can you pinch more than an inch?” quickly became the Special K catchphrase. Their current advertisements now tout the product's nutritional benefits, by using the slogan "Eat Special. Feel Special."

Answer: Country icon Waylon Jennings was meant to be on the doomed plane that crashed on this day in 1959, killing musicians Buddy Holly, J.P. Richardson (a.k.a. the Big Bopper) and Ritchie Valens. Waylon Jennings was a member of Buddy Holly's band when he gave up his seat to J.P. Richardson. Richardson was sick with the flu, and asked Jennings for his seat on the flight, to save himself a lengthy winter bus ride to their next gig. When Jennings told Buddy Holly that he was going to take the bus, Holly jokingly told him he hoped the bus broke down, to which Jennings replied, in jest, "I hope your ol' plane crashes." Jennings said this remark has haunted him ever since then.

In 2005, who tried on Patriots owner Robert Kraft's Super Bowl ring and never gave it back?

I'd definitely say it wasn't Mother Teresa; Probably not Queen Elizabeth; Maybe Putin, but I don't think so; so probably Michael Jordan, but can't imagine why, since he already has rings of his own!! So maybe the Queen??

5 Things You Didn't Know about Super Bowl I

It's Super Bowl Sunday folks!  We here at Trivia Today thought it was a good time to look back in history at the first-ever Super Bowl on January 15, 1967. We'll bet you didn't know these five things about the first AFL-NFL championship game, known retroactively as Super Bowl I...

Each Team Used Their Own Footballs

Not Only Were There Two Footballs—the Game Was the Only Super Bowl Ever to Air on Two Networks

And Because of Those Commercials, Green Bay Had to Redo Their Kick-Off to Start the Second Half

Fifteen million people were barred from watching the game.

Answer: The incident occurred in 2005, when Kraft visited the Russian president in St. Petersburg after the Pats won their third Super Bowl title. "I took out the ring and showed it to [Putin], and he put it on and he goes, 'I can kill someone with this ring,'" Kraft said in 2013. "I put my hand out and he put it in his pocket, and three KGB guys got around him and walked out." Despite the fact that Putin walked off with the ring, Kraft still wanted it returned. Kraft gave up on his quest to get it back after he was strongly persuaded by the George W. Bush White House to let it go.

Each Team Used Their Own Footballs

Long before Deflategate, the Chiefs and Packers had their own debate about appropriate ball size in preparation for Super Bowl I. The Packers represented the NFL and were accustomed to using the standard Wilson footballs that are still used today. The AFL, however, used a longer, skinnier, football produced by Spalding and wanted to use their ball—which they said was easier to throw—during the game. Neither team was willing to give in, so the NFL decided to let both teams use their own balls on offense.

At the time, CBS owned the rights to air NFL games and NBC aired AFL games. Because this was the first time the two leagues were playing each other, ratings were expected to be high and neither network wanted to miss out on airing the game. So, they both did. NBC was allowed to broadcast the CBS feed of the game with their own announcers and, more importantly, commercials.

Yep, you read that right. The Packers kicked off to start the third quarter, but NBC hadn't cut back from commercial break in time to catch it. So, like a movie set, word came down from the booth that they needed another take. The Packers kicked off a second time and this time, NBC was ready. Can you imagine something like that happening today?

Although the Super Bowl aired on two networks, NFL rules at the time required that its games be blacked out in the local vicinity. That meant that 15 million viewers within a 75-mile radius of the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum could not watch the game.

Despite the fact that two networks aired the game, the NFL does not own a full record of Super Bowl I. The original tapes were erased following the game, and until 2005, only small snippets of the game were available to view. But in 2005, a man in North Carolina found a nearly-complete recording of the game in his mom's attic. He had the video completely restored and tried to sell it to the NFL for $1 million. They offered him $30,000 instead. He didn't bite, and now the two are in a deadlock about the fate of the recording.

Answer: We're not sure which is a more incredible achievement, the fact that the Bills managed to make four straight Super Bowl appearances, or the fact that they are the only NFL team to lose in the Super Bowl four straight years. Arguably one of the weirdest records in NFL history, because we're not sure whether to applaud or shake our heads. The incredible string of bad and good luck started in 1990 when the Giants beat the Bills in a close game. They ended up losing the game in the final seconds when Scott Norwood just missed a 47-yard field goal.

Cashews!

Answer: Cashews are not sold to consumers in their shells. It turns out that the cashew shell is toxic. Cashews are a member of the same family as poison ivy, Anacardiaceae. Like poison ivy and many other members of the family, part of the cashew plant contains an oily chemical called urushiol, which can be fatal if ingested. The irritants are found in the shell oil, but not in the nuts themselves. Eating true raw, unprocessed cashews would result in you ingesting some of this urushiol. Thus, the seeds must be roasted at high temperatures to destroy the offending oil.

Which property in Monopoly was misspelled for years?

Answer: Marven Gardens is a yellow property on the original version of the Monopoly game board, although the game misspelled the name as Marvin Gardens. The misspelling was introduced by Charles and Olive Todd, who taught the game to Charles Darrow, its eventual patentee. His homemade Monopoly board was copied by Parker Brothers. In 1995 Parker Brothers acknowledged this mistake and formally apologized to the residents of Marven Gardens for the misspelling. It is the only property on the board that is not located within Atlantic City.

Which Beatles Sang Backup on a Rolling Stones Song in 1967?

Paul McCartney and John Lennon sang backup on the Stones’ song, “We Love You.” They also contributed hand clapping, and McCartney played the maracas while Lennon played the tambourine. The two Beatles were at Olympic Studio where the Rolling Stones were recording the song, which had been written to thank fans for continuing to support the Stones following their highly publicized drug bust.

What Controversy Surrounded “Strawberry Fields Forever?”

In 1967, this hit song from the album, Magical Mystery Tour, became controversial because of a few mumbled words by John Lennon. Rumors were rampant among fans that popular Beatle Paul McCartney had died and a look-alike had been hired to take his place. Reportedly, when “Strawberry Fields Forever” was played backward, near the song’s end, fans could hear Lennon singing, “I buried Paul.” According to Lennon, the words he was singing were really “cranberry sauce.”

Other songs reportedly had reference to McCartney’s death. “A Day in the Life” had lyrics that said, “He blew his mind out in a car.” Played backward, some fans heard the words, “Paul is dead, miss him, miss him.” Even one of the album covers was reported to contain references to McCartney’s death. On "Yesterday and Today," the cover features the band members wearing butchers’ coats with pieces of raw meat and dismembered doll parts scattered across their bodies. Obviously the group’s idea of a joke, but when fans started equating it with the death of McCartney, it was taken off the market and replaced.

Which Beatles Songs Were Banned by the BBC?

Four songs by the Beatles were banned by the BBC. “A Day in the Life” was banned because it reportedly encouraged the use of drugs. “I Am the Walrus” was placed on the list because of its reference to “knickers.” The others were “Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds” and “Fixing a Hole,” which supposedly referred to drugs.

Daisy Hawkins is the original name of which Beatles hit song?

Eleanor Rigby is a song by the Beatles, released on the 1966 album Revolver and as a 45 rpm single. However, the original name of the protagonist that he chose was not Eleanor Rigby but Miss Daisy Hawkins. In 1966, McCartney recalled how he got the idea for his song: I was sitting at the piano when I thought of it. The first few bars just came to me, and I got this name in my head ... "Daisy Hawkins picks up the rice in the church". I don't know why. McCartney said he eventually came up with the name "Eleanor" from actress Eleanor Bron. "Rigby" came from the name of a store in Bristol, "Rigby & Evens Ltd, Wine & Spirit Shippers". He recalled in 1984, "I just liked the name. I was looking for a name that sounded natural. 'Eleanor Rigby' sounded natural."

John Winston Lennon was born in 1940 and died in 1980, Paul McCartney was born in 1942 and Ringo Starr was born in 1940.  Post-Beatles, Harrison made acclaimed solo records and started a film production company. He died of cancer in November 2001.

Answer: Before entering politics, Woodrow Wilson spent many years as a college professor. He would become president of Princeton University and Governor of New Jersey before becoming elected the 28th President of the United States. Wilson led America through World War I and crafted the Versailles Treaty's "Fourteen Points," the last of which was creating a League of Nations, a precursor to the United Nations. An advocate for democracy and world peace, “The Professor” is often ranked by historians as one of the nation’s greatest presidents.

Teddy Roosevelt and William McKinley both used automobiles while in the White House, but the vehicles had been borrowed. In 1909, against protests from some, $12,000 was appropriated by Congress to provide for the purchase of two motor vehicles to serve the president.

The vehicle chosen for Taft was a Model M, 40-horsepower, seven-passenger touring car made by the White Motor Company. The seal of the United States was painted on each door of the vehicle. Mrs. Taft was provided with a 48-horsepower Pierce Arrow, blue in color with russet panels. It also had the seal of the United States emblazoned on its doors.

Answer: The American flag prominently features 50 stars, each of which represent an official state of the United States of America. Those 50 stars are the most stars that appear on any national flag. The flag, as it flies today with 50 stars and 13 stripes, was designed in 1958 by 17-year-old high school student, Robert G. Heft, as a school project. While his teacher only awarded Heft a B- on the project, President Dwight D. Eisenhower chose his design out of 1,500 entries. Brazil takes second place with a total of 27 stars on their national flag.
