Presidents' Day falls on the third Monday in February in the United States. Although February lays claim to the birthdates of four presidents, the month with the most presidential birthdays is October with six. The presidents born in the month of October are John Adams, Rutherford B. Hayes, Chester A. Arthur, Theodore Roosevelt, Dwight David Eisenhower and Jimmy Carter. Interestingly enough, the second most popular month for presidential birthdays is November with five. In addition to a salary, the president also gets $100,000 for travel, a $50,000 expense account, and $19,000 for entertainment purposes. President Donald Trump is the third U.S. president to refuse a salary. The act of donating a salary isn’t revolutionary, though, as former Presidents John F. Kennedy and Herbert Hoover donated theirs to charity as well. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Members phkrause Posted February 21, 2018 Author Members Posted February 21, 2018 17 hours ago, phkrause said: Who was the First Person to Orbit the Earth? The first person to orbit the earth was Yuri Gagarin from the Soviet Union on April 12, 1961. Yuri Gagarin flew aboard the Vostock 1 which was the first spacecraft to carry a human and was launched 23 days prior to the first US flight which did not orbit the earth. The flight was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome and took 1 hour and 48 minutes to orbit the earth once before landing in Kazakhstan. 17 hours ago, phkrause said: Who was the First Animal to Orbit the Earth? The first animal to orbit the earth was a dog called Laika who flew into space aboard the Sputnik-2 on November the 3rd 1957. Laika was a stray dog who was found on the streets of Moscow and was trained alongside 2 other dogs for a space mission. Soon after the Sputnik-2 was launched it was announced by Soviet officials that there was no return plan and that the dog would die in Space. Unsurprisingly, there was a lot of public outcry and 6 days after the launch it was announced that the dog had been humanly euthanized. That didn't turn out to be the full story, however, as in 2002 it was announced that Laika had died from overheating and stress around 5 hours into the flight. The Sputnik-2 orbited the earth 2,570 times and burnt up in the earth's atmosphere on the 4th of April 1958. 17 hours ago, phkrause said: Who was the First American in Space? The first American in space was Alan B. Shepard Jr on the Mercury Redstone 3 spacecraft on the 5th of May 1961. The flight was launched from Cape Canaveral and took 15 minutes and 22 seconds before landing in the Atlantic Ocean. Alan Shepard also took part in the Apollo 14 mission on the 31st of May 1971 becoming the 5th person to walk on the moon. While on the moon he used a 6-iron (that Lunar Module Pilot Edgar D. Mitchell says was snuck on board in his suit pocket) to hit 2 golf balls. He said that the second shot went "miles and miles." 17 hours ago, phkrause said: Who was the First Space Tourist? On April 28, 2001, American businessman Dennis Tito became history's first space tourist, paying his own way to the International Space Station aboard a Russian Soyuz spacecraft. Forty years to the month after Yuri Gagarin became the first person in space, Tito showed that there was money to be made in human spaceflight -- potentially lots of money, as he plunked down a reported $20 million for his flight to spend 8 days in space. "The private spaceflight industry did start with Dennis' flight," said Tom Shelley, president of Space Adventures, the Virginia-based company that brokered Tito's eight-day mission with Russia's Federal Space Agency and has sent a total of seven people on eight orbital flights since 2001. "That was the first real milestone and demonstrated to a lot of people that there was a market for private citizens to go to space." Members phkrause Posted February 21, 2018 Author Members Posted February 21, 2018 16 hours ago, phkrause said: Which of these elements contains the name of another element within it? Magnesium Beryllium Manganese Platinum Answer: Platinum is a chemical element that is a dense, malleable, ductile, highly unreactive, and silverish-white transition metal. The chemical element “Tin” can be located inside the name “PlaTINum”. Tin is also both malleable (easy to press and shape without breaking) and ductile (able to be stretched without tearing). Tin is widely used for plating steel cans used as food containers, in metals used for bearings. Tin is also used to form many useful alloys. Bronze is an alloy of tin and copper. Tin and lead are alloyed to make pewter and solder. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

It is in the form of a woman leaning forwards with her arms outstretched behind her. Billowing cloth runs from her arms to her back, resembling wings. Legend has it that sculptor Charles Sykes modeled the icon on Eleanor Thornton, a British beauty and secretary to Lord Montagu of Beaulieu, founder and editor of The Car Illustrated magazine. Today's Spirit of Ecstasy, stands at 3 inches and is mounted on a spring-loaded mechanism designed to retract instantly into the radiator shell if struck from any direction. There is a button within the vehicle which can raise/lower the emblem when pressed. Members phkrause Posted February 23, 2018 Author Members Posted February 23, 2018 On 2/21/2018 at 3:44 PM, phkrause said: What was Malcolm X's last name? Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little on May 19, 1925 in Omaha, Nebraska. Malcolm X was an African American leader and prominent figure in the Nation of Islam. Articulate, passionate and an inspirational orator, Malcolm X exhorted African Americans to cast off the shackles of racism "by any means necessary," including violence. The fiery civil rights leader broke with the group shortly before his assassination 53 years ago today, at the Audubon Ballroom in Manhattan, where he had been preparing to deliver a speech. On 2/21/2018 at 3:44 PM, phkrause said: What Caused Malcolm's Break with the Nation of Islam? Malcolm was paroled from prison in 1952 and soon paid a visit to Elijah Muhammad in Chicago. Less than a year later, Malcolm was named assistant minister of a major Nation of Islam temple in Detroit. It was about this time that he adopted the surname "X". He rose swiftly through the ranks of the Nation of Islam, before long becoming the public face of the movement. However, in the early 1960s, Malcolm became increasingly disillusioned with the direction of Muhammad's leadership of the Nation of Islam and was particularly incensed when Muhammad asked Malcolm's help in covering up the leader's extramarital affairs. On March 8, 1964, Malcolm announced that he was leaving the Nation of Islam, although he would remain a Muslim. On 2/21/2018 at 3:44 PM, phkrause said: What was the Relationship Between Malcolm X and Muhammad Ali? Malcolm X met Muhammad Ali, then known as Cassius Clay, while Cassius was training for his first fight against Sonny Liston and became his political and spiritual mentor. At first, Cassius was told he could not join the Nation of Islam because of his boxing career, but when he defeated Sonny Liston and won the World Championship, they allowed him to join. Cassius first announced he was joining the Nation of Islam the day after the fight with Liston, announcing his new name as Cassius X. A month later Malcolm X was suspended from the NOI and the NOI leader Elijah Muhammad announced that Cassius would be given the name Muhammad Ali as his true Muslim name. When in Ghana, near the end of 1964, Malcolm crossed paths with Ali and called out to him but Ali told him "You left the Honorable Elijah Muhammad; that was the wrong thing to do, Brother Malcolm." They never crossed paths again and in Muhammad Ali's 2004 book The Soul of a Butterfly: Reflections on Life's Journey, he expressed regret for their falling out: Turning my back on Malcolm was one of the mistakes that I regret most in my life. I wish I'd been able to tell Malcolm I was sorry, that he was right about so many things. But he was killed before I got the chance. He was a visionary ahead of us all. On 2/21/2018 at 3:44 PM, phkrause said: Who Killed Malcolm X? In the wake of his break with the Nation of Islam, Malcolm and his family were the target of death threats from Muhammad's followers. On July 9, 1964, John Ali, an aide to Muhammad, reportedly said that "anyone who opposes the Honorable Elijah Muhammad puts their (sic) life in jeopardy." In the wake of Malcolm's assassination, three known members of the Nation of Islam were arrested and charged with his murder. Those charged were Talmadge Hayer (also known as Thomas Hagen), Norman 3X Butler, and Thomas 15X Johnson, all of whom were convicted of first-degree murder in March 1966. At trial Hayer confessed, but refused to identify the other assailants except to assert that they were not Butler and Johnson. In 1977 and 1978, he signed affidavits reasserting Butler's and Johnson's innocence, naming four other Nation members as participants in the murder or its planning.[ These affidavits did not result in the case being reopened. Butler, today known as Muhammad Abdul Aziz, was paroled in 1985 and became the head of the Nation's Harlem mosque in 1998; he maintains his innocence. In prison Johnson, who changed his name to Khalil Islam, rejected the Nation's teachings and converted to Sunni Islam. Released in 1987, he maintained his innocence until his death in August 2009. Hayer, today known as Mujahid Halim, was paroled in 2010. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Well, to some it’s a delicacy called Casu Marzu. Casu Marzu, often called the world’s most dangerous cheese, is an illegal cheese found in Sardinia, Italy, made from sheep’s milk and infested with live maggots. The cheese is typically eaten when the maggots are still alive, as dead maggots are a sign that it has gone bad. Casu Marzu has been a part of Sardinian culture for generations and is often consumed at weddings and celebratory gatherings. If you have 20/20 vision, you can see clearly at 20 feet what should normally be seen at that distance. If you have 20/100 vision, it means that you must be as close as 20 feet to see what a person with normal vision can see at 100 feet. Having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean you have perfect vision. 20/20 vision only indicates the sharpness or clarity of vision at a distance.
