Answer: If you were tuned in to a television anytime between 1978 and 1986, you were likely exposed to the TV series Diff’rent Strokes. As Arnold Jackson, Gary Coleman would deliver his iconic catchphrase, "What'choo talkin' 'bout, Willis?" According to series writer, the character of Arnold had a line that was scripted as, “What are you talking about, Willis?” When Coleman read it, he compressed it into what would become one of the most iconic catchphrases of the 1980s. By the late 1990s, Coleman was so tired of the line he refused to say it. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Juliette Gordon Low was a widow in the early 1900s who found herself unsure of what to do with her life now that her husband was gone. She was at a luncheon in London where she happened to be seated next to Robert Baden-Powell (or B-P as he was known). B-P had recently started an organization called the Boy Scouts, but he had a problem: Girls wanted in so badly they were signing up for troops using their initials so no one would know they were ladies. Suddenly, Low knew how she was going to fill her free time. She raced home and called her cousin, saying, "Come right over! I've got something for the girls of Savannah, and all America, and all the world, and we're going to start it tonight!" Turns out she was right. On 3/12/2018 at 4:36 PM, phkrause said: What was the Initial Girl Scout Policy on Minority Members? 1912 was a time of segregation and discrimination, but not in the Girl Scouts. Low envisioned an organization open to girls of any background. According to the Scouts' website, Low "Ensured that African-American, American Indian and Hispanic girls were able to become Girl Scouts. She led efforts to make Girl Scouting available to girls who lived in rural and urban areas, to girls who were rich, middle class and poor, and to girls who were born in this country as well as immigrants." Martin Luther King Jr. called Girl Scouts, "a force for desegregation." On 3/12/2018 at 4:36 PM, phkrause said: What Was the First Girl Scout Cookie Variety? The first Girl Scout cookie variety was the sugar cookie. Originally, Girl Scouts would bake their own sugar cookies and sell them door to door. The first cookies were sold in Oklahoma in 1917 as a fundraiser for one troop. The original sugar cookie recipe was pretty plain, even if it was very tasty. In 1936, the Girl Scouts licensed the first commercial baker to start making Girl Scout cookies. It wasn't until 1939 that the cookies came in more flavors, including the precursor of the Thin Mint. On 3/12/2018 at 4:36 PM, phkrause said: What Effect Did the Two World Wars Have on the Girl Scouts? During both World War I and World War II, as well as the Great Depression, the Girl Scouts of America jumped into action, supporting war bonds and gathering food and clothing supplies. Girl Scout skills were updated to include air raid survival, and the organization put its cookie program on hold when basic foods were rationed; they sold calendars instead. The girls volunteered where they could, from hospitals to mass collection efforts for peach pits that would be used in gas mask filters. Aristotle Nicolaus Copernicus Socrates Charles Darwin Charles Darwin dgrimm60 Answer: Charles Darwin is best known for his contributions to the science of evolution. Darwin’s theory of evolution declared that species survived through a process called "natural selection," where those that successfully adapted, or evolved, to meet the changing requirements of their natural habitat thrived, while those that failed to evolve and reproduce died off. In 1859, he published a detailed explanation of his theory in his best-known work, On the Origin of Species. Darwin’s theory of evolution and the process of natural selection later became known simply as “Darwinism.” Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. She refused Secret Service protection, insisting that she be able to travel as freely as possible. It was Eleanor’s determination to drive her own car that led to her pistol ownership. The Secret Service begged her to take an agent, or a police escort; she refused. The agents complied with her wishes only after they discovered she knew how to shoot, and convinced her to carry a pistol when she drove alone. She owned a prized .22 Smith & Wesson Outdoorsman revolver. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2

Martin Van Buren was born December 5, 1782, in Kinderhook, New York, and was elected as the eighth president, serving in the office from 1837 to 1841. Because all of the previous presidents had been born before America gained its independence, they were all considered British subjects. 22 hours ago, phkrause said: What President Was the First to Be Born Outside the 13 Colonies? Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President, was born February 12, 1809, in Hardin County, Kentucky, to Thomas Lincoln, a carpenter, and Nancy Hanks Lincoln. Kentucky had become a state in 1792, and Hardin County was formed the following year. All the earlier presidents had been born either in areas under British rule or in states that were a part of the original 13 colonies. 22 hours ago, phkrause said: Which President Was Elected Four Times? Franklin Delano Roosevelt first served as president in 1933 during the Great Depression. He was the first president to address the nation by radio and instituted measures to drag the country out of The Great Depression and provide programs for employment. Roosevelt was reelected three times and died of a stroke while in office on April 12, 1945. He was 63. 22 hours ago, phkrause said: Which Adventurous President Was the First to Take an Airplane Ride? Although he had left the office of the presidency in 1909, Teddy Roosevelt was known for his daring acts and became the first to fly in an airplane. In October 1910, Roosevelt was invited by Arch Hoxsey, an aviator employed by the Wright brothers, to come fly in a plane in St. Louis, Missouri. Although reluctant at first, Roosevelt took the seat next to Hoxsey, and the plane took off, making several laps around a field, while people sitting in the grandstand watched. Roosevelt waved at the crowd as the plane flew by, and the plane landed safely. 22 hours ago, phkrause said: What President Was the First to Electricity While Living in the White House? In 1891, electricity was installed in the White House during Benjamin Harrison's administration. Wires were strung across the White House lawn, and round switches were installed inside with the wiring buried underneath the plaster in the rooms. However, the president and his wife were terrified of being electrocuted by this ten-year-old invention and did not use the switches. Most sources say that the servants in the White House turned the lights on and off.
