Answer: Kevlar is a well-known component of personal armor such ballistic vests. The bulletproof vests used by United States military forces, police officers, and SWAT use Kevlar as the key component in their construction. Kevlar is a heat-resistant and strong synthetic fiber, developed by Stephanie Kwolek at DuPont in 1965. It is strong enough to stop bullets and knives, and often described as being "five times stronger than steel on an equal weight basis." It has many other uses too, from making boats and bowstrings to reinforcing tires and brake pads.

Answer: The Civil War was the bloodiest war in our country’s history. An estimated 620,000 soldiers died in the Civil War. That’s more Americans than died in both World Wars, Korea, and Vietnam combined. This amounted to 2 percent of the population at the time, which would be the equivalent to about 6 million Americans dying today. Approximately one in four soldiers that went to war never returned home. The largest human catastrophe in American history, the Civil War forced the young nation to confront death and destruction in a way that has not been equaled before or since.

Answer: "Auld Lang Syne" is that song everyone mumbles after the stroke of midnight to ring in the new year. It is a Scottish poem written by Robert Burns in 1788 and set to the tune of a traditional folk song. The song has long been associated with New Year's celebrations and is one of the most recognizable songs around the world. "Auld Lang Syne" roughly translates to “days gone by” and the song is all about preserving old friendships and looking back over the events of the year. Guy Lombardo, sang the hymn at midnight Jan. 1, 1929 in the Roosevelt Hotel in New York City, and is credited spawning a global tradition.

TIMES SQUARE  NEW YORK CITY

Answer: According to The Travel Channel, this Brazilian coastal city is the host of the world's largest New Year's celebration. More than 2.4 million people gathered on Copacabana’s beach last year, filling a 2 1/2-mile stretch of sand. At midnight, Brazilians ceremonially throw flowers into the ocean, paying homage to Iemanja, the goddess of the sea. Tradition says to wear white for good luck, but be prepared to get sweaty and doused with sprays of champagne. Whatever you do, don't wear black to the party. Brazilian lore considers it bad luck.

Answer: The Chinese Zodiac, known as Sheng Xiao, is based on a twelve-year cycle, each year in that cycle related to an animal sign. These signs are the rat, ox, tiger, rabbit, dragon, snake, horse, sheep, monkey, rooster, dog and pig. It is calculated according to Chinese lunar calendar. 2019 is the Year of the Pig according to Chinese zodiac. Chinese New Year in 2019 starts on Tuesday, February 5th and ends on January 24th, 2020. The Pig is the twelfth in the 12-year cycle of Chinese zodiac sign. The Years of the Pig include 1923, 1935, 1947, 1959, 1971, 1983, 1995, 2007, 2019, 2031, 2043...

Answer: Some of our favorite historical figures were born on the first day of the year. Paul Revere, J. Edgar Hoover, and Betsy Ross all made their entrance into this world on January 1st. Tradition states that babies born on this day live the luckiest of lives. These babies supposedly bring joy and good fortune to everyone around them. The iconic "baby new year" personifies this association of good luck in the New Year. This tradition began in ancient Greece with an infant basket paraded around to symbolize the rebirth of Dionysus, the god of wind and fertility.

How about the World Cup

Answer: As part of its annual tradition, Google has released its list of 2018’s most searched topics. Google calculates this list based on people’s increased interest in a particular topic over the year. Snatching the number one spot on Google’s most search topics this year is the World Cup. The 21st FIFA World Cup was held in Russia from June 14th to July 15th, the first to be held in Eastern Europe. This international football tournament garnered the most searched after Croatia, a known underdog team, surprisingly reached the finals to fight France. France won the cup 4-2, earning the country its second World Cup title.

Answer: Built from 1978 to 2001, the Honda Prelude was one of Honda’s best-selling cars. The Prelude followed Honda’s tradition of naming its cars after musical themes. By the end of its manufacturing run in 2001, Honda had sold a total of 826,082 Prelude units. It hit its peak with the release of the 2nd generation models, and by the 5th generation, it was selling a fraction of what it originally did due to the release of more affordable cars such as the Civic. Still, the Prelude remains to be one of the best cars Honda has ever made.
