The name Jesus did not exist in the English language until the seventh century. Neither did it exist in the Greek or the Hebrew which it came from. The original 1611 king James version name for Jesus was Iesus which came from the Greek Iesous. The Kings James used the Textus Receptius which was translated into Greek by Erastmis of Roterdam. The name Iesous translated back through to the Hebrew is Yeshusa. Taken back for a final time to the original Hebrew we find that Yahshua is the name of Christ. The Jews at the time believe that the name of God Yahweh, or Yah, was to holy to be spoken. They were the first to call him Yeshua instead of his original name Yahshua.

The name (Jesus) is barely 400 years old.

Acts 4:12 (None other name given by which man can be saved).

"YAHshua"(Hebrew)

1)  I wonder what you think about the thief who died on the cross along with Christ and whether or not    that thief was saved.

2)  To say that now we know the truth, comes across as arrogant.

1. Well Christ did say he would be with him in hell/the grave that day, and since Christ was in prison ministering to the souls of the people that have died since the beginning until that time to give them the chance at salvation, and since we know that the Thief had Already repented/asked for forgiveness. Then it would not be to big of a stretch to assume that he would still be seeking forgiveness for his sins while he was in Hell with Christ.

2. Yeah sorry about that, I forget to delete the knowing the truth part before posting this.

The idea of "name" in the Bible is the character. I'm afraid that you may be reading into the text not what the Bible writers had in mind but ideas from modern western thought. To pray in the name of Christ means to pray for the same types of things that Christ prayed or would pray for. To be saved by his name means that it is his character, his grace that forgives us.

Brother, we must prove all things by the word of God alone(1 Thess 5:21; 2 Timothy 3:16-17). I read scripture as it is and I compare it with scripture, as we are told to do.

Matthew 28:19-20

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts 2:38

38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Acts 19:5

When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 4:10-12

10 Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.

11 This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Acts 10:48

48 And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord. Then prayed they him to tarry certain days.

The Lord God Yahweh has given one name under heaven by which man may be saved. The name is Yahshua the Christ. The importance of getting the name right is the difference between salvation and Damnation. This is exactly what is intended brother, it is all right there for you. All you have to do look and you will find brother.

Well, we brought up the thief on the cross, and immediately the conversation departed from Scripture and turned to mere speculation.  So, we have seen demonstrated that the one posting does not always depend upon the plain word of the Bible and is at times willing to speculate beyond what the Bible says.  You will note that I am not discussing  the issue as to what the Bible might say about Christ seeking to evangelize the dead and in the grave (hell).

There are three misconceptions believed/used by most churches. These beliefs are not found in scripture.

  1. Christ and the thief went to heaven when they died.

Now when we look at the verse,

Luke 23:43

43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, Today shalt thou be with me in paradise.

This makes sense when taken at face value not looking at the rest of scripture. When we do though we see the error in this line of thinking. When Christ died he did not go to heaven he went to sheol/the grave.

1 Peter 3:18-19

18 For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit:

19 By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison;

Ephesians 4:9-10

9 (Now that he ascended, what is it but that he also descended first into the lower parts of the earth?

10 He that descended is the same also that ascended up far above all heavens, that he might fill all things.)

We know that he didn’t ascend until mid or late morning because he appeared to Mary after she left his grave and still had yet to ascend.

John 20:16-17

17 Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father: but go to my brethren, and say unto them, I ascend unto my Father, and your Father; and to my God, and your God.

After speaking with her he ascended and then reappeared to the disciples and told them to touch him.(John 20:19-28). So it is obvious this line of thinking cannot be the case.

2 and 3 The other two ways people try to use are basically the same with only a minor difference. One believes that when he said this he was referring to the day of judgement(1st way) and that there is a inspired comma. The second believes that he was referring not to judgment day and the resurrection but to sunday when he finally ascended, and they may or may not have a special comma. The answer to both of these is the same.

In the original greek there was no punctuation so it would read:

43 And Jesus said unto him Verily I say unto thee Today shalt thou be with me in paradise

So we can clearly see that it is friday that he is referring to, and where did he go on friday. The answer is sheol/the grave. And the thief he spoke to went there the same day as him. Paradise is the Place thought by the ancient Jews to be the place where the righteous souls went when they died.

Paradise- Paradeisos 3857

3. The part of hell which was thought to be the abode of the souls of the pious until the resurrection.

Now we know that even today the dead still sleep(Acts 2:27-31, 1 Peter 3:18-19, 2 Peter 2:4, Psalm 16:10, Acts 7:60, 1 Cor 15:6,1 Thessalonians 4:13) and none have risen except for Christ. No man is resurrected except they be a part of the first or second resurrection.( 1 Thess 4:13-17,  Acts 7:59-60,  1 Corinthians 15:6, 1 Corinthians 15:18-23,  Revelation 20:11-15, Revelation 20:4-6)

The misunderstanding of what/where hell actually is comes from Gehenna Originating in 1620's church Latin, post biblical Hebrew Gehinnom. It's meaning was used figuratively for a final resting place, the original word was switched to it by later churches.

Strongs Concordance: 1067. Gehenna

Gehenna, and originally the name of a valley or cavity near Jerusalem, a place underneath the earth, a place of punishment for evil.

Of Hebrew origin (gay' and Hinnom); valley of (the son of) Hinnom; ge-henna (or Ge-Hinnom), a valley of Jerusalem, used (figuratively) as a name for the place (or state) of everlasting punishment -- hell.

If we take the word back first to the original Greek it will bring us to Hades.

Strongs concordance: Hades 86.

The abode of Departed souls.

The Grave, Hell

Next we take it back to the original Hebrew word, Sheol.

Strongs Concordance: Sheol 7585.

Underworld. Place to which people descend at death.

Grave, Hell, Pit

When a man dies his soul/spirit lives on and sleeps in the grave(Matt 9:24, Mark 5:39, Luke 8:52-53, 1 Kings 2:10, Acts 7:60, 1 Cor 15:6, John 5:28-29, Job 7:21, Job 14:10, Daniel 12:2, 1 Thessalonians 4:13).

Strongs Concordance-5590. psuché

soul, life, self

from pneuma, which is the rational and immortal soul

C.the soul as an essence which differs from the body and is not dissolved by death

This is the definition used in Matt 10:28, Revelation 6:9, Revelation 20:4, , Acts 2:27, 31. It is referring to an essence that is separate from the body and lives on after death(after the breath of life is given up) the soul is immortal. (1 Sam 28:11-20, 1 Peter 3:18-20, Revelation 6:9-11)

The Spirit/soul of those dead are given up to be Judged at the Day of Judgment.

So you see brother everything I say is based entirely in scripture. You asked a question as to whether or not the thief was saved I gave you the best answer I could based on what the word of God says. The thief sought repentance in life, there is no reason to think he would not still be seeking it in death. Remember brother the shame and penalty of accusing a minister of the Lord Falsely.

Proverbs 19:9 - A false witness shall not be unpunished, and [he that] speaketh lies shall perish

1 Peter 3:15-17

15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:

16 Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.

17 For it is better, if the will of God be so, that ye suffer for well doing, than for evil doing.

Had you asked for the scripture brother before the accusation there would have been no fault. Though I forgive you brother, just remember what manner of man speaks on a matter without hearing it out completely.

Proverbs 18:13

He that answereth a matter before he heareth it, it is folly and shame unto him.

You quote so many scriptures that no one knows what you are talking about. It would help me to understand better if you could narrow the focus some and show me a text that says we are to call our Lord YWHW.  This abbreviation is not found anywhere in scripture at all. As another poster mentioned above, "the name" refers to God's character. And the Bible contains over 700 different names for God/Jesus, each of which describes various felt needs that we all have from time to time. For one example, Jehovah-Jireh, the Lord will provide.

Brother, when you are discussing the word of God you must use the full sword in order to get a full picture. Otherwise you get a belief that has no sure foundation. I give explanations for every verse provided. If you do not wish to read all the passages then only read as many as you need to understand the point being made.

Psalm 135:1
YHWH- Yahweh Hebrew 3068 from base of 3050 Yah

Genesis 15:2-3069 [e]
Yah·weh
יֱהוִה֙
GOD

3050. Yah

Part of Speech: Proper Name
Transliteration: Yah
Phonetic Spelling: (yaw)

Proper name of Deity-the Lord-Yah

Exodus 17:16-3050 [e]
yāh,
יָ֔הּ
of the LORD

(Yah) Yahweh was thought to be to sacred to be spoken out loud. Jews stopped using it as early as 3rd century B.C. It is the proper name of God.

Adonay- Adonai- Name used by Jews for God. (After 3rd century)

Elohim- Hebrew 430

We can see this to be true quite easily brother. If we look at Isaiah 12:2 we can see that the Base for is Yahweh but it is spoken as Jehovah because it was believed to be to sacred to be spoken out loud.

Isaiah 12:2

3068 [e]
Yah·weh,
יְהוָ֔ה
JEHOVAH

So if he came in his Father's name then he must have come in the Name of Yah. There is only one name given under heaven by which man can be saved so that name must be the Name Yahshua- whose meaning if I am remembering correctly is God saves or God's Salvation. The name is the Most important part about the Baptism Right after Faith in Christ.

I personally love thinking of all the names of God.

There is so many showing off God's particular power or love for us.

Our Father.

Our Pappy ,Dada, Pop, Daddy, etc..

So do we as a church teach these ancient hebrew words/letters in other speaking countries/ languages?

My new Daughter in Law is from China. Are these things important there in chinese speaking churches?.

I have found so much of our language doesn't translate. Esp a dead language in a far Asian land.

I call her Daughter and She has a name for me. It's a fatherly endearment term that she connects with.

Brother, here is an addendum to the previous response I made to you. A more to the point version.

The Thief repented in life(Luke 23:39-42) the Lord said he would be with him in Paradise/Hell(I go into great detail on this point in my previous response)(Luke 23:43). They both died(John 19:32-33) and went to paradise/the grave(Luke 23:43; Ephesians 4:9-10) and Christ ministered to all the souls in prison/the grave(1 Peter 3:18-19). There is no reason to think he would repent and accept Christ while alive and then deny him after death. I see no scripture to prove he denied him after death in Hell.

The answer to your questions are yes brother. There is nowhere that says the names aren't important. There are only places that say there is only one name and the Importance of that name. Now there are different pronunciations of the name just like any name. Those who spoke Hebrew as the first language pronounced it: Yah-shoo-ah(Yahshua) while those who spoke Aramaic as their first language pronounced it: Yah-hoo-shoo-ah. But the name itself remains the same.

Learning one word or even two words of the ancient language may be tough but it is not beyond the abilities of anyone who wants to be saved. I mean people do all sorts of amazing feats to save their body, how much more should a man overcome to save his own soul? Two words sound like a easy enough starting point to me brother.

Thank you for that.

My response is a personal illustration of a very Big God of all languages...

Of All People.

There will be so many in heaven having never heard the 21st century Church America version of the Name of God or Jesus.

And even more so without hearing the original Hebrew Name.

..

You are very passionate about this I see.

It is even your beautiful Name.

It is your conviction and you feel we all should see importance of it.

I think you are even indicating it is  What saves  someone?

Jesus Saves ......  and in many cases even without an utterance due to ignorance of the rule you propose, or OWN language or physical /mental impairment.

Please tell me more.

Well brother, we are judged by the Doctrine, light, and truth we have received, that is true.

Romans 6:17

“But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you.”

Romans 2:12, 16-20

12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;

16 In the day when God shall judge the secrets of men by Jesus Christ according to my gospel.

17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God,

18 And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law;

19 And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness,

20 An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law.

Some people only have a small piece of the truth. For example there are some people who have only received the book of Matthew, that is all the light and truth that they have ever known. If they obey everything from the book of Matthew(the Truth they have received) they will be saved. Because they have followed from the Heart the from of Doctrine/truth delivered unto them.

But you and I both know there is so much more than Matthew to be received and so much more truth and knowledge to bring us closer to God and the Full truth of his word. So lets say the same people received the book of Acts and they believed it was true then they are still saved but are now stronger in the Faith for having more truth.

So to the point now, every man is judged by what he has received so those who have died without knowing the true name are saved(as you said) because they believed wholeheartedly the truth that was given to them and did not have access to the Whole Truth/Correct Name. But they did not have the whole truth and were therefore weaker in the Faith because of it, making it easier to be deceived.

Every man should seek the whole truth always renewing his mind that he may be transformed to prove the perfect will of God(Romans 12:2). The more truth you have the stronger you are. In this day and Age every man and woman(who is mentally/physically capable) has the opportunity to seek the truth for themselves(in countries that are technologically advanced at least). Finding the true name is far simpler than it was 200 years ago or even a hundred years ago. The name can be found even just by looking in the Strongs concordance, it does take time to reach the truth(12 or more hours at the most) then if you really want to know the truth you research it for a month, two months pouring over everything you can find mentioning the true name. But every person(every modern society at least) has that ability to know the true name, therefore they have no excuse. Seek and you will find(Matt 7:7-8). We are commanded to renew our mind brother, commanded to question everything so that we may come to the full knowledge of the truth(Romans 12:2). Anyone who does not question the doctrine and the name they currently have/are using,  disobey that commandment by being content and satisfied with what they already have.

The Name Yahshua is Important because it is the True name brother and only one name that was given. The Name Jesus is not  the true name, Jesus is closer to the name of A Pagan God than it is the Son of God. Having the right name is the difference between salvation and Damnation brother.

It is our Faith Alone that saves us brother, but we must have the right name(especially after we know the truth). Once I found the true name I told everyone I knew about it, because that is what we are called to do brother, preach the truth and correct lies. I know the True name so I am obligated to preach it to everyone now that I know. Letting someone teach in a false name is letting someone teach a lie. I can't stand idly by while it is being done. It is the same as seeing a man who teaches that God commands us to keep the Pagan holiday Christmas, or keep the Pagan custom of Cutting yourself for the dead, it is something that must be corrected.

If a man comes to you with the truth and you deny it you are now guilty for turning away from it. The truth is a double edged sword. Every man that is brought the truth can have his heart pierced/pricked and be saved. Or he can deny it and be damned. But he is not accountable until he hears, we are commanded to bring him the doctrine that he may hear, and we are commanded to Baptize in the true name of Christ, Yahshua.

Romans 10:12-18

12 For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.

13 For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?

15 And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath believed our report?

17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.

18 But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.

Mark 16:15

15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

Matt 28:19-20

19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:

20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Acts 4:12

12 Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

Hebrews 10:26

26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins,”

2 Peter 2:21

21 For it had been better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after they have known it, to turn from the holy commandment delivered unto them.

I hope this helped you understand more clearly, the importance of Getting the name correct. If not then I can try explaining it in a different, shorter way.

I would like to elaborate more on what saves us brother. We are saved by Faith alone(Ephesians 2:8-9) but we are justified by faith and works(James 2:14-26). So if we have faith we will keep the commandments of the Lord(Revelation 14:12-13; John 14:15-21). One of Those commandments is that we must be born again(John 3:1-8; 1 Peter 1:23; Colossians 3:10; 2 Corinthians 5:15-17; Titus 3:5; John 1:11-13). Baptism is the means by which we are born again(Romans 6:3-11; John 3:2-7; Galatians 2:19-20; Colossians 2:10-15,19-23) born in the spirit(John 3:6; Galatians 4:29). In order for the Baptism to work you have to have a name(Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:38; Acts 19:5). Not just any name but a name so special, powerful, and unique that it was the only name of its kind given under heaven(Acts 4:10-12; Matt 28:18-20; Acts 10:48). A name given to us by God Himself, given to us in God's own name(John 5:43)(Yah). The bible speaks in great detail on this matter, and does not fail in stressing the magnitude and importance of the only name heaven has given us to be saved. That name was not given in English, not given in Greek, not given in Chinese, it was given in one Langue only, Hebrew. Knowing the importance the word of God places on this name, and how far it goes to illustrate that it is the only one of its kind. Why wouldn't we use the name how it was given to us in Hebrew? Why wouldn't we use the Name Yahshua?  There is no justification I can see for not using the Original Name as it was given to us by God. You wouldn't willingly follow the Doctrines of Devils not given to us by God. Why would you follow and trust in a name that the Lord did not give us?

I hope that answer sufficiently explained what saves us brother.

I find it very interesting the The Disciple of YHWH seemingly has a very limited knowledge of what Seventh-day Adventists teach and believe.  Why do I think this?  In one of the posts above he spend a great amount of time arguing a point that  SDAs teach and believe.  Why spend that time and expect people reading the post to read through a position on which SDAs would agree with him?  My conclusion is that he has an agenda and is so focused on his agenda that he does not feel any need to understand what SDAs teach and believe.  This violates a central rule of evangelism that one must knw and understand your audience and meet them on their level.  It is never helpful in evangelism to project yourself as ignorant of the people to whom you are talking.  Generally people react negatively to  such.

NOTE:  It should be noted that SDAs, as far as their official teaching goes, disagree strongly with some of what he has presented.  I do not intend to suggest otherwise.

In an earlier post, The Disciple of YHWH mace the statement quoted below about me:

I think that all would likely agree that he accused me of falsely accusing him, a minister of the Lord.  It should be stated that he has forgiven me.

His response to me did not convince me.  I still believe that he has demonstrated that he does not rest his belieifs on that plain word of the Bible and is does,  sometimes, engage in the speculation that he seems to accuse others of doing.

Regardless, there is a more important issue related to what he said.

This forum allows people to state their opinions and to discuss them.   I stated my opinion and I have no problem with him telling me that I am wrong.  But, his statement bgelow shuts off discussion.  It simply demonstrates that he is not willing to engage in an open, free, and frank discussion with people.  It is a clear statement that at least sometimes he will accuse people who disagree with him of falsely accusing  a   minister of the Lord.  That is a very heavy accusation.

Brother, you said that I did not base my opinion on the word of God and the bible. You said that I depended and used only speculation to come to a decision. But that wasn't true brother, in fact it was the furthest thing from the truth.

If you say something about someone in the manner you did then that is false accusation brother. An outright lie. Because it was not the truth. That's a simple fact. Like I said though brother I don't hold it against you. I forgive you.

Now I showed you with scripture why I believe everything that I said, but not a passage have I seen saying otherwise brother. Not with speculation but with the word of God did I present it to you brother.

In which post brother? The one on Hell, Paradise, the Thief on the Cross,  and the State of The Dead? I can't be sure of which you are speaking. That one seems the most likely, if not though I am more than happy to hear which one you were speaking of.

I know for a fact brother your position on the thief on the cross Paradise. You have a sacred comma that you say shows he was speaking of the day of judgment. I can quote that directly from one of your sites.

Your position on hell is that it is Sheol and the grave.

Your Position on the state of the dead is that they sleep, but not sleep, but they cease to exist as only the Lord is immortal.

I have come to this knowledge of your doctrine by study and by discussion with several of your church members/elders who I have studied with at great length on these issues. So if my understanding of it is wrong then I guess I need to report them for teaching contrary to your doctrine.

But again brother I cannot be sure if this is response you are speaking of as you did not give a specific one. But the left the answer ambiguous.

this is an adhominem argument that proves absolutely nothing. Nothing about the alleged name that you think you are supposed to say. Show us even one text that says that name of YWHW  That is a made up name and it, unlike Gods many other names, tell us something about Gods character.

There is nothing wrong with "accusing a [alleged] minister of the Lord" if they are in the wrong. I once had a real pastor try to tell me about the bears ripping apart some guys who were making fun of Elijah, as if he could continue the abuses he was doing with impunity. He fled the country like a dog with his tail between his legs. We have every right and obligation to question you. I highly doubt you are in fact a Pastor anyway.

Well brother, you can use a Strong's concordance and any other source you wish to look it up for yourself. I can tell you wouldn't believe anything that comes out of my mouth. So here is the Text that shows the Name Yahshua and the Name of God(Yah)all you have to do is look it up for yourself.

As to questioning me brother, I have no problem with that as that is why I am here. Neither do I have a problem with the false accusation that I am only using "mere speculation" to say I am right. I am only concerned about the penalty that will be levied against the accuser, which is why I forgave him and showed him the warning that is given.

If an accusation is false, then there is indeed a problem brother. Matt 19:18, Mark 10:19, Luke 18:20, Romans 13:9, Colossians 3:9, 1 Timothy 4:1-2, 2 Timothy 3:1-3, Revelations 21:8,

As to being a real pastor, I am a minister of the Lord after the Apostolic Faith, a Disciple of Yahweh. But again brother, I know from what you have said that you would not believe anything that comes out of my mouth.

.............................................................

My home church had all kinds of things floating around among them about the Name of Jesus or u must baptize people using all three names and then say the name of Jesus again at the end.

A few believed it was essential to Salvation( meaning if the baptism was true baptism  ..sort of thing ).

I believe Gregory Mathews  when he says it's really not an SDA theological thing.

I know that on some level but I have come across that sort thing often enough to wonder.

"not allowed to say His Name" " you must say it right" ..etc

Even going so far as spelling God like "G_d" on the internet to show reverence.

I have even come across  KJV ONLY people in our SDA church as well.

They believe all other translations are suspect.

There all kinds of Adventists. :)

In a church where works and obedience is heavily espoused it definitely plays into what we can do to be saved.

Maybe that's why.

.........................

Disciple of Christ,

Everybody shares what jazzes/drives them. And my heart glows warm seeing your typed enthusiasm for God.

We are all very different and different things move our hearts in different stages in life.

GOD gets you. :)

I myself talk about the love of God and His constant heart of non condemnation toward all sinners..

That doesn't get much traction or comments maybe cause its so Scandalous.

In a religion where the exact right doctrine is KING.. anything off or slightly different puts people on the defensive.

Hang in there and thank you for being so kind and patient.

Blessings.
