Woody Posted February 26, 2008 Posted February 26, 2008 There seems to be a lot of tough talk about keeping all the commands of God. No doubt there is God's power to do so ... but so far I haven't met anyone who uses all the power available to keep all His commands. Is there anyone out there that would like add their name to a list of those who now can say they are fully keeping all of God's commands? I will start the list and notice it is blank. My name is not on it ... 1.) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators Gerr Posted February 27, 2008 Moderators Posted February 27, 2008 I could be wrong, Red, but somehow I get the feeling that you like to rub other peoples' noses that you will keep on breaking God's commandments until Jesus comes. Is it reasonable for a perfect God to expect perfect performance from imperfect people? But there is something a perfect God can expect from fallen, imperfect people - a perfect heart! Let your heart therefore be perfect [Heb shalem- lit. at peace with; complete, whole, perfect; wholly devoted - NASB, "fully committed - NIV, comletely faithful - NLT] with the LORD our God, to walk in his statutes, and to keep his commandments as of this day. 1 Ki 8:61 KJV "When it is in the heart to obey God, when efforts are put forth to this end...." Moderators John317 Posted February 27, 2008 Moderators Posted February 27, 2008 Here is the testimony of the God's Word: "Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. "He who says, 'I know Him,' and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him" (1 John 2: 3,4). "For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome" (1 John 5: 3). "If you love Me, you will keep My commandments" (John 14: 15; NASB). "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves me" (John 14: 21. "If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love" (John 15: 16). "And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the remnant of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ" (Rev. 12: 17). "Here is the patience of the saints; here are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus" (Rev. 14: 12). Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Nightingale Posted February 27, 2008 Posted February 27, 2008 Surely none of us will disagree with Gods word. None of us can claim to be sinless, but we can claim His promises to write His word in our hearts. Certainly we will not be planning to break any of the commandments. It is a daily growing experience. Quote John 3: 16: "For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have everlasting life."
Woody Posted February 27, 2008 Author Posted February 27, 2008 Guess my list remains blank. NO one is brave enough to add their name. Just the usual preaching about 'others' but not themselves. Comeon ... stand up and be bold. Anyone out there willing to add their name? Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators John317 Posted February 28, 2008 Moderators Posted February 28, 2008 Carefully study 1 John 3: 4-10: 4Everyone who does wrong things is breaking God's law. Doing wrong things is breaking the law. 5You know that Christ came to take away the wrong things people have done. He is the one who has done no wrong. 6Everyone who stays with him does not do wrong things. Everyone who does wrong things has never seen him and has never known him. 7My children, do not let anyone fool you. Anyone who does what is good, is good just as Christ is good. 8Anyone who does what is wrong belongs to the devil. The devil has done what is wrong from the beginning. That is why God's Son came. He came to stop what the devil does. 9No one who is God's child does wrong things, because God's life is in him. And he cannot keep on doing wrong things, because he is God's child. 10This is how people can know who are God's children and who are the devil's children. Everyone who does not do right is not God's child. And anyone who does not love his brother is not God's child. Compare the Amplified Version: 4Everyone who commits (practices) sin is guilty of lawlessness; for [that is what] sin is, lawlessness (the breaking, violating of God's law by transgression or neglect--being unrestrained and unregulated by His commands and His will). 5You know that He appeared in visible form and became Man to take away [upon Himself] sins, and in Him there is no sin [[a]essentially and forever]. 6No one who abides in Him [who lives and remains in communion with and in obedience to Him--deliberately, knowingly, and [c]habitually] commits (practices) sin. No one who [habitually] sins has either seen or known Him [recognized, perceived, or understood Him, or has had an experiential acquaintance with Him]. 7[d]Boys (lads), let no one deceive and lead you astray. He who practices righteousness [who is upright, conforming to the divine will in purpose, thought, and action, living a consistently conscientious life] is righteous, even as He is righteous. 8[but] he who commits sin [who practices evildoing] is of the devil [takes his character from the evil one], for the devil has sinned (violated the divine law) from the beginning. The reason the Son of God was made manifest (visible) was to undo (destroy, loosen, and dissolve) the works the devil [has done]. 9No one born (begotten) of God [deliberately, knowingly, and [e]habitually] practices sin, for God's nature abides in him [His principle of life, the divine sperm, remains permanently within him]; and he cannot practice sinning because he is born (begotten) of God. 10By this it is made clear who take their nature from God and are His children and who take their nature from the devil and are his children: no one who does not practice righteousness [who does not conform to God's will in purpose, thought, and action] is of God; neither is anyone who does not love his brother (his fellow [f]believer in Christ). Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Gerry[/quote'] Gerry, if we were to change Redwood's challenge to refer only to deliberate disobedience, would anyone be able then to sign it? I have my doubts about that, too. For instance, did you deliberately use the word 'blabber' to refer to Redwood's challenge? Yes, I deliberately/knowingly used the word blabber. Yes, I can claim that I have stopped living in willful rebellion against the God of heaven. By His grace I have given him my life, my loyalty and allegiance. Do I fall short? Do I unintentionally stub my spiritual toe? Do I unintentionally get my feet spiritually dusty? Do I unknowingly omit a duty? Yes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But knowingly/deliberately/willfully/rebelliously disobey God? How can I do that to the One who shed His blood and gave His life for me? My Master is either God or Satan. I can't be serving both. You may doubt all you want, but you can't read my heart eaither. And I don't believe for one moment that I am the only one who can sign it. Every believer who has truly surrendered his/her life to Christ should be able to sign it. But most would be reluctant to do so for fear of being labeled self-righteous and a hypocrite because they know that they continue to fall short of the glory of God. So if you or anyone want to label me a hypocrite and self-righteous or self-deceived, go ahead. All I can say is, I have given my life, my loyalty and allegiance. "When it is in the heart to obey God, when efforts are put forth to this end, Jesus accepts this disposition and effort as man's best service, and He makes up for the deficiency with His own divine merit. But He will not accept those who claim to have faith in Him, and yet are disloyal to His Father's commandment." 1SM 382.2 Gerry Quote
olger Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 The Bible continually teaches us to depart from evil and do good (Psalm 34 eg.) I fear that some people take Romans 7 as the mantra of their whole christian experience, in the process choosing to disregard thousands of other Biblical passages. Woody Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Quote: Yes, I can claim that I have stopped living in willful rebellion against the God of heaven. Personally I sin and I sin willfully. I make the choice to sin. No one is forcing me to make wrong decisions. And I am man enough to admit that I betray my Saviour who shed His blood for me. I've given Him my life. But I continue to fail. I am selfish and self centered. So, at times I choose sin. I "willfully" decide for sin. Praise God ... He loves me , forgive me , and accepts me anyway. He knows my heart and my desire to serve Him. But I am saved not by my best effort PLUS His 'divine merit'. I am saved 100% by HIS divine merit. And it is always there for me. My sins do not change His forgiveness. My works do not in any way add to the salvation He so lovingly bestows upon me as a 'free gift'. The good news is that I don't have to earn the 'free gift'. And I praise God for that. For I would fail to obtain it if it was up to me. You can call me whatever you want ... but I praise God that He has GIVEN to me the gift of Salvation that His blood paid for. I am not going to be so blasphemous as to say that anything "I" do can compare to what He has done. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. D. Allan Posted February 28, 2008 Posted February 28, 2008 Quote: No one has to sin, depends on how you define sin, probably ? limit it to 'trangression of the law' or include the desires of the heart as Jesus suggested. ? ! maybe the easiest way to sin is by the omission of doing good ! to him that knoweth to do good and doeth it not to him it is sin Quote dAb O frabjous day! Moderators John317 Posted February 28, 2008 Moderators Posted February 28, 2008 Do you intentionally practice sin and plan to keep doing it? Do you say in your heart, "Yes, I shall continue to disobey God and resist His commandments until the day I die"? Or do you say in your heart with the Psalmist, ""Oh, that my ways were directed to keep Your statutes!" "With my whole heart I have sought You; Oh, let me not wander from Your commandments!" "Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your statutes, and I shall keep it to the end"? Notice that the prophets and the Psalmist do not say, "I will continue to disobey God until I die," but rather, "Teach me, O Lord, the way of Your laws, and I will keep it to the end." Study 1 John 3: 8-10 carefully: 8 The one who practices sin is (A)of the devil; for the devil has sinned from the beginning (. The Son of God ©appeared for this purpose, (D)to destroy the works of the devil. 9 No one who is (E) born of God (F) practices sin, because His seed abides in him; and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 By this the (G) children of God and the (H) children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who (I) does not love his (J) brother. Woody Posted February 28, 2008 Author Posted February 28, 2008 Personally ... as for me and mine .... We sin and will sin until the day we die. I will never come to the place where I will say to anyone that I have stopped sinning. Christ came to die for those who sin. Those who 'think' they are without sin ... are without God for He cannot help those who 'think' they are no longer willfully sinning. Those are beyond His help. Woody Posted February 29, 2008 Author Posted February 29, 2008 Robert ... Thanks. But I think the rest of that quote is worth posting so I will ... Quote: ""Christ pleased not Himself." He did nothing for Himself; His work was in behalf of fallen man. Selfishness stood abashed in His presence. He assumed our nature that He might suffer in our stead. Selfishness, the sin of the world, has become the prevailing sin of the church. In sacrificing Himself for the good of men, Christ strikes at the root of all selfishness. He withheld nothing, not even His own honor and heavenly glory." 5T 204 I would hate to have anyone accuse Robert of only quoting snippets. That is MY domain.
