Sadly, the Good Samaritan's head was broken off two times, and it appears it may have been racially motivated because as you can see, Colins portrayed the Samaritan as a black man. The original sculpture sat between the university library and the University Medical Center and was intended to represent the mission of the hospital and the university. Downtown Arcata has some interesting architecture. Also, the people I met there-- I was in grad school at the university and had lots of time to take in the town-- reminded me of what people were like in the late 60s.
