Administrators Naomi Posted July 30, 2012 Administrators Posted July 30, 2012 What part of the country are you in now? It sounds like you are in Texas but of course Texas is a huge state, over 750 miles from one end to another. I lived in Texas for many years ... and yes, it is a BIG state ... I now live in Central Oklahoma. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God
Administrators Naomi Posted July 30, 2012 Administrators Posted July 30, 2012 Thanks very much Naomi. I'm delighted that you like the pics so far. I should say, though, that not all my photographs are intended to be "pretty" or beautiful. Sometimes it's essential to confront ugliness or things that are not so pretty, and I think that's one of the important jobs of photography/art. Actually John, your ability to capture the essence of the land is what makes your pictures interesting and significant. Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Administrators Naomi Posted July 30, 2012 Administrators Posted July 30, 2012 Yes, I am familiar with Ketchum and Grand Lake. I am half way between Okla City and Tulsa. It is usually very pretty here with rolling hills and trees. However, we are in our second year of drought and have been enjoying 106+ temperatures (today 110) for the past 18 days. Things are a little brown and dry just now. A traffic jam here is being stuck between two pickups and a hay-bailer. :) Quote If your dreams are not big enough to scare you, they are not big enough for God

Moderators John317 Posted July 30, 2012 Author Moderators Posted July 30, 2012 I assume it's a beer. I didn't look closely at it to see the name of the drink, but it was probably something like Coors or Budweiser. The sculpture is actually a criticism, or at least an observation, of American & Western culture. The spiritual "gods" of the past have been replaced by the "gods" of pure physical and sensual pleasure. Members phkrause Posted July 30, 2012 Members Posted July 30, 2012 John great pictures. Are you planning on seeing Shane on your travels through Texas? Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Moderators John317 Posted July 30, 2012 Author Moderators Posted July 30, 2012 I'm sorry to say I wasn't able to see Shane since he lives further south in Texas near the Mexican border, and I came to El Paso from the north. I'm in El Paso (on the western edge of Texas) and about ready to leave the state, probably today. Will have to plan a visit with Shane another time. That would be great. Members phkrause Posted July 30, 2012 Members Posted July 30, 2012 Are you driving on Rte66 or are you driving on I10? I remember when I moved with FFT to CA we drove on I80 to start with than headed south on 40 or 44 from St Louis, than picked up 10 the rest of the way? Not sure its been so long ago. I'll have to look it up again on a map! Ah a map? What is that!!! LOL The new generation of kids will probably never know what a map is. Moderators Jeannieb43 Posted July 31, 2012 Moderators Posted July 31, 2012 The post which you call "Two of Mexican Man" looks as though the photos were taken through the car window. Am I right? Quote Jeannie

...Change is inevitable; growth is optional....
Moderators John317 Posted August 1, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 1, 2012 I woke up Sunday morning to find a group of men talking with one another in front of my truck. As soon as I noticed the man whose picture I posted I began to photograph him through my truck's windshield. I was able to make about half a dozen exposures before he walked off. That's one very good reason to be sure to keep my windows clean. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted August 1, 2012 Author Moderators Posted August 1, 2012 I'm on I-10 right now but I never know from one day to the next what route I'm going to take because it all depends on what I find as I drive. I've usually avoided the main highways on this trip and prefer the small roads that take you through towns and villages. I had planned to go through northern Arizona, but I had to change my mind about that. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.
