Lineman Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry Redwood, I am needing to make a list of events that I can use and place on my new timeline. I am sure that there will be things that others would want to put on theirs if they made one, but I will be sticking to the main events. So far I really like what I am finding on the End Times Events Series, though I am not sure I agree just yet on the order of events. You are right. We will never totally agree on how this list should be, but I do think that it is important for us to know this stuff. Quote Visit and Share the BibleTimelines.com URL ! Lineman Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 I understand what you're saying.....it's just that it scares the bejabbers out of me. All the "what if's" come surfacing to my mind and I start thinking "what if I didn't/don't believe the *right* thing????" The stuff from whence ulcers are made. This is the kind of scary stuff that was thrust at me in grade school and academy, and part of the reason I'd left the church. Fear. There shouldn't be such fear of God, should there? I have enough to worry about right now without wondering whether or not I'm in the right camp or not. I try so hard to do what's right. Doesn't seem to make a difference though. Hi Pam, please keep in mind that without Jesus we cannot do anything, but with Him we can do everything. (Adventists seem to have a hard time remembering that.) What I am saying is that if we ask Him to take control of our thoughts and fears He will. He'll totally remove the fear and give us peace and happiness. Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 ... I do think that it is important for us to know this stuff. You're absolutely right. The main thing, as with the Bible, is to study what God has revealed about end-time events. Just because people don't agree on all aspects of it doesn't mean it's not important for us to study and know these things. God revealed them to us for a reason, and that is in order to know what is coming so we won't be deceived into following false teachings such as the rapture, etc. It's important to keep in mind that the main outline of last-day events is not in dispute among Seventh-day Adventist students of eschatology. The list I've given is not all in exact chronological order because many of them overlap and are taking place at the same time. Some of them, such as "the shaking," are processes, which take place over a long period of time but which intensify the closer we come to up to Christ's return. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

It's true we have seen the above things happening already, but they will all continue and become even more plain than they have been. For instance, we will see even more favorable views of the papacy among protestants, and, I suspect, also among many SDAs. Spiritualism will continue to grow in popularity and influence. More professed Christians will unite with the world, not only leaving the church but while they are in the church. New theories will continue to spring up and in greater numbers, attracting even more people. So, while it is true that these things are history, we will see them more plainly and more wide- spread as we near the time of Jesus' return. Quote: "But like the stars in the vast circuit of their appointed path, God's purposes know no haste and no delay." DA 32 I believe you will find here some answers to your question why we should study these issues. If you put this statement in its context, it doesn't mean that the church's response has not effect on when Christ returns. The fact is that there has been a delay in the Second Coming. You have quoted the book, Desire of Ages. That is good, but you need to also consider another very important quote from the same book, page 633, 634: Quote: Had the church of Christ done her appointed work as the Lord ordained, the world world would before this have been warned and the Lord Jesus would have come to our earth in power and great glory. Quote: We may have to remain here in this world because of insubordination many more years, as did the children of Isreal, but for Christ's sake His people should not add sin to sin by charging God with the consequences of their own wrong course of action. Ev. 695 Also see Last Day Events, pp. 38, 39. If you have Last Day Events, study the following Guide: (Anyone want to fill in the blanks on the basis of what the Spirit of prophecy teaches?) Quote: In assigning various reasons for the delay of Christ's return, EGW identified: a. Specific sins (many of which delayed Israel's entrance into Canaan by 40 years): (1) ___________________ (2) ___________________ (3) ___________________ (4) ___________________ (5) ___________________ (6) ___________________ (38:1) (7) ___________________ (39:1) b. The "___________________ " of "___________________ " must be "___________________" reproduced in Christ's people before "He will come to claim them as His own." (39:2) c. The gospel must be given to the ___________________ before Christ can return to earth. (38:2; 39:4; 37:5) d. The "image to the beast" (Rev. 13:14-17; 14:9-11) must be formed before Jesus comes. This fills the national "cup of iniquity," and will take the form of a legislative enactment (law) that requires Christians to abstain from work and to engage in religious worship on ___________________. (40:1) 7. Christ could have come in the 19th century (indeed, EGW expected it in her own lifetime); but it has been postponed to our time (for reasons listed above in #6); but it is abundantly clear that the delay was not caused by a failure in the ___________________ of God. (38:1) 8. Christians actively preparing for the second coming of Christ will educate themselves to be "___________________ and ___________________ upon the scenes of the [final] ___________________" of this world. (41:5) The Christian will "___________________ with God" daily, in an attitude of "___________________ and ___________________" (42:5). "Jesus would have us keep ever before" our minds "an awareness of the ___________________ time," for "the is ___________________ near." (42:6) Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Quote: "But like the stars in the vast circuit of their appointed path, God's purposes know no haste and no delay." DA 32 See pp. 38, 39 of Last Day Events. Also see 2 Peter 3: 12 which speaks of "hastening" the Second Coming. The NT has many indications that the Second Coming would be delayed and not occur for a long time. Also, Ellen White said directly that Christ could have come, and was ready to come, in the early 1890s. Remember that God would have taken Israel into the Promised Land without having to wander around in the wilderness for 40 years. That happened because of their rebellion against God and against God's prophet. The church has repeated that experience. A wonderful book on this is one by Taylor G. Bunch, entitled, The Exodus In Type and Antitype, available through Leaves of Autumn Books, P.O. Box 440, Payson, Ariz. 85547 Here's the DA quote you gave in its full context: Quote: "When the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son, . . . to redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons." Gal. 4:4, 5. The Saviour's coming was foretold in Eden. When Adam and Eve first heard the promise, they looked for its speedy fulfillment. They joyfully welcomed their first-born son, hoping that he might be the Deliverer. But the fulfillment of the promise tarried. Those who first received it died without the sight. From the days of Enoch the promise was repeated through patriarchs and prophets, keeping alive the hope of His appearing, and yet He came not. The prophecy of Daniel revealed the time of His advent, but not all rightly interpreted the message. Century after century passed away; the voices of the prophets ceased. The hand of the oppressor was heavy upon Israel, and many were ready to exclaim, "The days are prolonged, and every vision faileth." Ezek. 12:22. But like the stars in the vast circuit of their appointed path, God's purposes know no haste and no delay. Through the symbols of the great darkness and the smoking furnace, God had revealed to Abraham the bondage of Israel in Egypt, and had declared that the time of their sojourning should be four hundred years. "Afterward," He said, "shall they come out with great substance." Gen. 15:14. Against that word, all the power of Pharaoh's proud empire battled in vain. On "the self-same day" appointed in the divine promise, "it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out from the land of Egypt." Ex. 12:41. So in heaven's council the hour for the coming of Christ had been determined. When the great clock of time pointed to that hour, Jesus was born in Bethlehem. "When the fullness of the time was come, God sent forth His Son." Providence had directed the movements of nations, and the tide of human impulse and influence, until the world was ripe for the coming of the Deliverer. The nations were united under one government. One language was widely spoken, and was everywhere recognized as the language of literature. From all lands the Jews of the dispersion gathered to Jerusalem to the annual feasts. As these returned to the places of their sojourn, they could spread throughout the world the tidings of the Messiah's coming. DA 31, 32 The "great clock" referred to was the 70 week prophecy of Daniel 9: 24-27. Christ came right on time. When Christ comes for His church, however, depends on the spiritual condition of the church. That's the reason for the delay in the Lord's coming. It's why Jesus waits. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 And do you feel it is important to know the exact order since we seem to be having some difficulty agreeing on that? What's really clear is that it's important for everyone to study and know for themselves personally what the Bible and the Spirit of prophecy teach about end-time events and developments. If God went to the trouble of giving revelations about them, I can't imagine Christ's followers not being interested in knowing what He inspired His prophets to write about it. Let's suppose you had waited for a wife to come home from a long trip away. She sends you a letter about her arrival and tells you where she will meet you. What would she think if you don't even read it? She might think your lack of interest in her letter shows you don't care about meeting her. That is the way it is with Jesus: He inspires the book of Revelation to tell us about His coming, and many Christians don't even read it so as to be ready for His return. In fact, a lot of them don't even believe there's anything they can do to be ready beyond what they've already done. Jesus inspires Ellen White to write on the end-time events and on what to expect, and some people wonder why they should pay any attention to it. I don't know about you, but that seems strange to me. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

That started as far back as the 1840s and then continued into the 1890s and afterwards. It continues in our own time. Most Adventists do not realize how important this is. Quote: If we would have the image and superscription of God upon us [referring to the sealing], we must separate ourselves from all iniquity. We must forsake every evil way, and then we must trust our cases in the hands of Christ. While we are working out our own salvation with fear and trembling, God will work in us to will and do of His own good pleasure. 7 SDA BC 978 Quote: Light was to be given, directing their minds to the temple of God in heaven; and as they should by faith follow their High Priest in His ministration there, new duties would be revealed. Another message of warning and instruction was to be given to the church. Says the prophet: "Who may abide the day of His coming? and who shall stand when He appeareth? for He is like a refiner's fire, and like fullers' soap: and He shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and He shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness." Malachi 3:2, 3. Those who are living upon the earth when the intercession of Christ shall cease in the sanctuary above are to stand in the sight of a holy God without a mediator. Their robes must be spotless, their characters must be purified from sin by the blood of sprinkling. Through the grace of God and their own diligent effort they must be conquerors in the battle with evil. While the investigative judgment is going forward in heaven, while the sins of penitent believers are being removed from the sanctuary, there is to be a special work of purification, of putting away of sin, among God's people upon earth. This work is more clearly presented in the messages of Revelation 14. When this work shall have been accomplished, the followers of Christ will be ready for His appearing. "Then shall the offering of Judah and Jerusalem be pleasant unto the Lord, as in the days of old, and as in former years." Malachi 3:4. Then the church which our Lord at His coming is to receive to Himself will be a "glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing." Ephesians 5:27. GC 425 The above is resisted and rebelled against, and is the reason both for the denial of the doctrine of the Investigative Judgment and for the delay of the Second Coming of Christ. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 The Order of Last Day Events The enactment of the National Sunday Law in the US is what will trigger last day events. Please visit my website www.hidden-treasures.ca and read The Order of Last Day Events Vol.1 and Vol.2... they should be ready in a couple of days... there are other books to read there... take a look! sky www.hidden-treasures.ca The real "trigger," as I'm sure you agree, is the readiness of God's people to receive the Latter Rain and give the Loud Cry, which is the Third Angels Message in the power of the Holy Spirit. God could have allowed this test of the Sunday law to be enacted at any point if it was just a matter of that happening. But the reason God hasn't allowed it to happen is that His people aren't strong enough spiritually to go through that test. Too many are undecided and would fall away and be lost. Jesus waits because of His love for us and for those who would be lost if He were to return tonight. Don't forget that Christ could have come-- and the Sunday laws were ready to be passed-- back in the 1880s and 1890s. The reason He didn't come then is that the church rebelled against the beginning of the Latter Rain and against God's prophet. I believe that God has given opportunity to every generation since then to be the very last generation before Christ's return. Some day it will happen. It could happen in our day, but it depends on us and on our response to God. Questions: Did the children of Israel have to wander in the wilderness for 40 years? Was it God's plan when He saved them from Egyptian slavery that they would die and their bodies rot in the desert? (See Hebrews 3. They died because of unbelief and disobedience. The Spirit of prophecy says we are repeating their experience. End Time Events, p. 38, 39.) What would have happened if the second generation of the children of Israel had rebelled like their parents on the borders of the Promised Land? Would they have gone in while rebelling? Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Moderators John317 Posted October 16, 2008 Moderators Posted October 16, 2008 Quote: The knowledge of the end-times is given to us primarily in order to give us assurance that God is in ultimate control Never met a person who was into end time events who was happy. The kind of statement made says more about the person making it than it does about those who study eschatology. Ellen White was a very happy person and she's the one who wrote it. I'm also very happy and don't see the end-time events as something to be depressed about. It's actually something to be excited about because it means that God is in control and will take us home soon. I don't understand why anyone who loves Christ and love the Bible would not be interested in it. My parents were both very happy people-- my mom a teacher for 35 years and my dad both a teacher and pastor-- and they loved studying about the end-time events. I've known teachers in college who taught it, and they were all very happy people. What do you mean by "unity"?? 2. National Apostacy as "Sunday law" or something else? 1) The "unity" doesn't mean that the protestants will cease to have their separate denominations. No doubt some groups will return to the Catholic Church, but the main idea of "unity," as I am using it here, is that the protestants and Catholics will work closely together, particularly in urging Sunday legislation, and they will have much more in common than they've had before. There will always be those who consider themselves "protestant," since the Spirit of prophecy continues to use that description of them right up to the very end. But the name alone will mean absolutely nothing. Remember that at the time this takes place, both are "fallen," no longer serving God at all. They will have the name of Christian but they will actually be in the service and under the complete control of the Satan. Right now God has millions of his sincere, honest followers in those churches, but those who love God and seek to serve Him will be out of those fallen churches before the end of probation. They separate due to the Loud Cry of the Third Angels Messages. The whole world will then be divided into two camps. Almost the whole world will have joined with Satan, but there will be millions in the smaller camp who are willing to die rather than sin against God. These will not look on sin or sinning as a matter of no importance. 2) On National Apostasy, see Evangelism 235 Quote: National Ruin Follows National Apostasy The earth also is defiled under the inhabitants thereof; because they have transgressed the laws, changed the ordinance, broken the everlasting covenant. Isa. 24:5. The people of the United States have been a favored people; but when they restrict religious liberty, surrender Protestantism, and give countenance to popery, the measure of their guilt will be full, and "national apostasy" will be registered in the books of heaven. The result of this apostasy will be national ruin. By the decree enforcing the institution of the papacy in violation of the law of God, our nation will disconnect herself fully from righteousness. When Protestantism shall stretch her hand across the gulf to grasp the hand of the Roman power, when she shall reach over the abyss to clasp hands with spiritualism, when, under the influence of this threefold union, our country shall repudiate every principle of its Constitution as a Protestant and republican government, and shall make provision for the propagation of papal falsehoods and delusions, then we may know that the time has come for the marvelous working of Satan and that the end is near. Through spiritualism, Satan appears as a benefactor of the race, healing the diseases of the people, and professing to present a new and more exalted system of religious faith; but at the same time he works as a destroyer. . . . While appearing to the children of men as a great physician who can heal all their maladies, he will bring disease and disaster, until populous cities are reduced to ruin and desolation. . . . And then the great deceiver will persuade men that those who serve God are causing these evils. As men depart further and further from God, Satan is permitted to have power over the children of disobedience. He hurls destruction among men. There is calamity by land and sea. Property and life are destroyed by fire and flood. Satan resolves to charge this upon those who refuse to bow to the idol which he has set up. His agents point to Seventh-day Adventists as the cause of the trouble. "These people stand out in defiance of law," they say. "They desecrate Sunday. Were they compelled to obey the law for Sunday observance, there would be a cessation of these terrible judgments." >From Maranatha - Page 216 Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. Woody Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I guess that happy is in the eye of the beholder. I find that those who study eschatology are usually into legalism. Not exclusive. But you will find the conservatives much more into it because they do not have the assurance of salvation. They look to the Lord's coming with fear. They want to know how long they have to get victory over all their sins. I don't see that as 'happy'. Just my personal observation for what it is worth. I find Revelation interesting. But don't spend a lot of time with it. I am sure the intellectuals enjoy it. But the message of Jesus is simple. The Salvation message is simple. Quote: God leads His people on, step by step. He brings them up to different points calculated to manifest what is in the heart. Some endure at one point, but fall off at the next. At every advanced point the heart is tested and tried a little closer. If the professed people of God find their hearts opposed to this straight work, it should convince them that they have a work to do to overcome, if they would not be spewed out of the mouth of the Lord. Said the angel: "God will bring His work closer and closer to test and prove every one of His people." Some are willing to receive one point; but when God brings them to another testing point, they shrink from it and stand back, because they find that it strikes directly at some cherished idol. Here they have opportunity to see what is in their hearts that shuts out Jesus. They prize something higher than the truth, and their hearts are not prepared to receive Jesus. Individuals are tested and proved a length of time to see if they will sacrifice their idols and heed the counsel of the True Witness. . . . Those who come up to every point, and stand every test, and overcome, be the price what it may, have heeded the counsel of the True Witness, and they will receive the latter rain, and thus be fitted for translation. Moderators John317 Posted October 17, 2008 Moderators Posted October 17, 2008 I am READY. What do you believe qualifies a believer as "ready" for the last-day events and to go through the time of trouble and be sealed? Are any of us really "ready"? Is being ready merely a matter of having accepted Christ or of being "justified"? In this context, isn't saying "I am ready" similar to saying, "I am perfect"? Will a person who is really "ready" say or think he's ready if he understands his true spiritual condition and what those end-time events are going to be like? Consider: Quote: The time is not far distant when the test will come to every soul. The mark of the beast will be urged upon us. Those who have step by step yielded to worldly demands and conformed to worldly customs will not find it a hard matter to yield to the powers that be, rather than subject themselves to derision, insult, threatened imprisonment, and death. The contest is between the commandments of God and the commandments of men. In this time the gold will be separated from the dross in the church. True godliness will be clearly distinguished from the appearance and tinsel of it. Many a star that we have admired for its brilliancy will then go out in darkness. Chaff like a cloud will be borne away on the wind, even from places where we see only floors of rich wheat. All who assume the ornaments of the sanctuary, but are not clothed with Christ's righteousness, will appear in the shame of their own nakedness. Testimonies for the Church Volume Five (1882-1889), page 81, paragraph 1 Being clothed with Christ's righteousness is both imputed and imparted righteousness. Imparted righteousness are works of faith that result from genuine justification and a personal commitment to Jesus Christ. Quote: But the days of purification of the church are hastening on apace. God will have a people pure and true. In the mighty sifting soon to take place we shall be better able to measure the strength of Israel. The signs reveal that the time is near when the Lord will manifest that His fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly purge His floor. Testimonies for the Church Volume Five (1882-1889), page 79, paragraph 4 Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
BobRyan Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 1. Salvation status is not changed by the judgment. If you are saved going into it (having your name come up) -- then you are saved coming out. If you are lost going into it -- you are lost coming out. 2. The moment you accept Christ you are justified as we are told in Romans 5 "having been justified by faith we HAVE peace with God". This peace is in fact the assurance of salvation mentioned in Romans 8. 3. But the issue of "ready for probation to close" as in the Rev 15 event where Christ no longer ministers in the sanctuary as our mediator is another problem. It is unique to the saints at the end of time. We must have the out pouring of the Holy Spirit to go through that time and we must be victors in the battle against sin as Paul instructs us in Romans 6 and in 1Cor 10. We must know what Paul means when he says in 1Cor 9 "I buffet my body and make it my slave LEST after preaching the Gospel to others I myself should be disqualified". Here is where we are reluctant to follow -- but here is where the Holy Spirit is leading the saints at the end of time. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Moderators John317 Posted October 17, 2008 Moderators Posted October 17, 2008 We're in complete agreement. I certainly agree that the final generation faces a unique experience. Satan becomes much more desperate and determined and God allows Satan more power, but at the same time God works in ways that He hasn't done before, either. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Woody Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 It is simple. It just boils down to who you know. I know the Lord who will provide what ever I need ... when ever I need it. I have total confidence that whatever comes my way ... His promises of protection and spritual completeness ... are good . Therefore ... I can boldly come before Him. And I can proclaim to you I am ready. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

Moderators John317 Posted October 17, 2008 Moderators Posted October 17, 2008 Hey, thanks very much, Sky. Am studying the two books on last day events, now. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
