Woody Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 Nope. I'm just spongin' off a them. But if they don't like what I'm doing .... I may have to go back to that coin box and do pay as you go. Dr. Shane Posted July 22, 2009 Author Posted July 22, 2009 Power companies do not finance. They do not let anyone sponge off from them. Many do require a deposit but even those that do not are not going to let the client get more than a month behind. Many will shut the power off within 14 days of the due date. The idea being put forth here (that because we do not prepay for electricity, the power company is somehow selling it on credit) simply lacks the basic understanding of fundamentals of business. Prepaying for electricity would be like prepaying for our groceries. That would mean going to the grocery store with a grocery list and paying the store for the items before the store even orders them from the wholesaler. That argument is also a strawman as I have not said all credit is bad. I have stated credit cards are bad. For the sake of argument let's say that power companies do sell their power on credit. How much do they make on interest? How much do they make of fees and penalties? Do their collection departments call a person in the middle of the night? Do they call a person's boss and neighbors? Do they tell women to divorce their deadbeat husbands? Do they take money from their struggling customers and pay it to their good customers? Credit card companies do all those things. Cut up the card if you have one and are afraid "you will be enticed",if you don't have one, don't get one. Have caller ID and don''t respond to the abusive calls. Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. It's not your parents, your past relationships, your job, the economy, the weather, an argument, or your age that is to blame. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
