Obedience to God's Commandments the Fruit of Faith

I did not say that, I said it is "highly doubtful" it was ever told. The "eyewitness" gospels don't have this or anything similar to it. Luke was so far removed from Jesus time and was not an eyewitness... put two and two together. It is not consistant with Jesus testimony, but it is with Paul's.

Olger, what would happen if we threw out part of the Bible everytime it didn't seem to line up with our pre-concieved notions while studying?

When you study the Bible in public colleges, it is common to hear or read people who say some part of Scripture is not legitimate and can't be trusted. Some books written by these people only accept a small percentage of Christ's words. They do the same with the Hebrew prophets and with most books of the Bible. Once you start down that road, there's no end to it. Many end up doubting virtually everything in the Gospels, including Christ's resurrection. If you mention a literal SEcond Coming to them, or a literal creation that took 6 days and ended in the Sabbath, they just laugh.

Notice that in order to go down that road, a person must first jettison Ellen White as a genuine prophet of God.

Why would an SDA choose to go that way?

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Quote:

The KJV, (which I believe is the most accurate for study) puts it this way: Rom 11:29 For the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. .. Which is different from irrevocable.

"Without repentance" is translated from the word "ametameletos" strong's # 278, 1) not repentant of, unregretted

The other version you quoted (AMP) is paraphrased, which is disallowed for study purposes. For obvious reasons.

Try the ESV. You might like it. It has given me the least disappointment so far. As for the Amplified, it is the amplified portion that is the paraphrased part. Too many archaic words in the KJV for me.

Take a thousand, maybe just a hundred, people who have different experiences and you won't have any Bible left.

If you throw out the second coming, whats the point? Might as well just close the book.

Robert,

I have a question: who were the judaizers that Paul was railing against?

"Now there are also many other things that Jesus did. Were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written." Jn 21:25 ESV.

"1 Inasmuch as many have undertaken to compile a narrative of the things that have been accomplished among us, 2 just as those who from the beginning were eyewitnesses and ministers of the word have delivered them to us, 3 it seemed good to me also, having followed all things closely for some time past, to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, 4 that you may have certainty concerning the things you have been taught." Lk 1:1-4 ESV

That's the text I was going to use.

Robert,

Jews who had converted to Christianity, but demanded obedience to the law in order to be saved.

Robert are you saying we don't need to obey?

Matthew 27:44 The robbers who had been crucified with Him were also insulting Him with the same words.

Mark 15:32 "Let this Christ, the King of Israel, now come down from the cross, so that we may see and believe!" Those who were crucified with Him were also insulting Him.

Luke 23:39-43 One of the criminals who were hanged there was hurling abuse at Him, saying, "Are You not the Christ? Save Yourself and us!" But the other answered, and rebuking him said, "Do you not even fear God, since you are under the same sentence of condemnation? "And we indeed are suffering justly, for we are receiving what we deserve for our deeds; but this man has done nothing wrong." And he was saying, "Jesus, remember me when You come in Your kingdom!" And He said to him, "Truly I say to you, today you shall be with Me in Paradise." (only in Luke)

Lu 23:7 And when he learned that He belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent Him to Herod, who himself also was in Jerusalem at that time.

(Only in Luke does Jesus go to Herod at His trial, could it be that his protege Paul was related to Herod?) Ro 16:11 Greet Herodion, my kinsman.

This is but a small sampling of the many differences between the eyewitnesses testimony and that of Luke. The "gospel" of Luke has around 530 unique lines of text. I don't know who was giving Luke the information, but it is not substantiated by the known eyewitnesses. Testimony proven in error by two eyewitnesses testimony would be enough to throw the testimony of that person out.
