skyblue888 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 >>I believe she was called to make sure the church was headed in the right direction.<< Aha... It may have indeed been so. Yes the gift was given for that purpose and yet the prophet declared that as a people we were backsliding and retrieving toward "Egypt" as the children of Israel did. They too had a prophet in their midst and yet because of unbelief they lost their bearings until they declared that they had no king but Ceasar! sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." skyblue888 Posted September 7, 2009 Posted September 7, 2009 The Bible is its own interpreter and the Holy Spirit is its Author. The Scriptures are not subject to any private interpretation. See 2 Peter 1:20. The only way to arrive at the truth under the Holy Spirit's guidance, we must compare Scripture with Scripture on any given subject, "comparing spiritual things with spiritual," as the apostle Paul stated in 1 Cor.2:13. In other words, Scripture is explained by Scripture. One passage explains another passage. As a perfect example, compare Matt.6:33 with Luke 17:21 and with Romans 14:17 and see what you get! I just read an interesting statement which I would like to share with all of you: "The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not God's mode of thought and expression. It is that of humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God's penmen, not His pen. Look at the different writers. It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired. Inspiration acts not on the man's words or his expressions but on the man himself, who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts. But the words receive the impress of the individual mind. The divine mind is diffused. The divine mind and will is combined with the human mind and will; thus the utterances of the man are the word of God." Manuscript 24, 1886; 1 S.M.21. Interestingly enough the prophet stated that it is the same with the Testimonies of God's Spirit. The only way to understand the messages they contain is by comparing statement with statement on any given subject. One statement is explained by another statement. Thus the testimonies are not subject to any private interpretation. "The testimonies themselves will be the key that will explain the messages given, as Scripture is explained by Scripture." 1 S.M.42. sky Quote "The merits of His sacrifice are sufficient to present to the Father in our behalf." S.C.36.
oldsailor29 Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Looks to me like the second paragraph here contradicts the first. I think the second paragraph makes it pretty clear that the Holy Spirit is not the author. The Bible is its own interpreter and the Holy Spirit is its Author. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God's penmen, not His pen. LifeHiscost Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 Indeed, my main focus is on working with the Lord as He captures my heart... I cannot agree with you more. While there may be some benefit in bouncing our ideas off other brothers in the body of Christ, perhaps to exchange the wisdom we've been given, and that not of ourselves, to talk with someone for hours about the mercy and love of the Father for His children and see them drink deeply of the Water of Life, is an experience beyond the ability to explain. Having just recently done that with my daughter of 42 years, it made up for the years we had no communication on a personal level, about anything involving the love of God. Are the promises of answered prayer for others true? No one will ever convince me of anything different. Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

Haldog Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 The bible is the God-breathed logos. If Ellen says differently then it just shows once again that she is a false prophet. How many times does it take for people to understand that she had a spirit but was not of God? Quote "You may not agree with everyone. But if you are an honest man, when someone says something you disagree with it’ll drive you to the Word. If you find out that you were wrong and change your thinking then you are the better for it. Haldog Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 People might want to be careful what they say about Ellen White. We know by what happened to king Saul, that a dead prophet is more powerful than a live king. Too funny. Even a dead prophet of God has no power over a born-again spirit-filled christian. Nice try though. Ellen being neither a prophet or of God has nothing on me. She only holds sway over those who willingly place themselves under her spirit of confusion and rebellion. Guest Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 The very last deception of Satan will be to make of none effect the testimony of the Spirit of God. "Where there is no vision, the people perish." Proverbs 29:18. Satan will work ingeniously, in different ways and through different agencies, to unsettle the confidence of God's remnant people in the true testimony. He will bring in spurious visions, to mislead and mingle the false with the true, and so disgust people that they will regard everything that bears the name of visions, as a species of fanaticism; but honest souls, by contrasting false and true, will be enabled to distinguish between them. {FLB 296.6} Haldog, why do you want to hang out with us ignorant Ellen White believing SDAs? Moderators John317 Posted September 8, 2009 Moderators Posted September 8, 2009 Nope, common sense and God-given wisdom have shown me over and over again that she is a fraud. The same thing is often said about the Bible. I find it impossible to believe that books such as Step To Christ, Desire of Ages, The Great Controversy, the Testimonies, Christ's Object Lessons, and Ministry of Health, are inspired by Satan. The Bible says "by their fruits you shall know known them." After many years of studying her writings and getting to know her through people who knew her personally, I have no doubt that when we measure her life and her work by the Bible's standards, we can know that Ellen G. White was a genuine prophet of God. It's like Jesus said about His own teaching-- those who are willing to do the will of God will know whether the teaching is from God or not. Let every man be persuaded in his own mind. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Guest Posted September 8, 2009 Posted September 8, 2009 You make a very good point John. I hadn't thought of it that way, but it's true, usually those who chuck her writings are just not willing to follow them, so the next logical step is to look for ways to discredit the writings. Quote

The Spirit that directed her, is very clear to me... Mark And I second the motion. Her granddaughter, Sister Jaques, when relating her own circumstances re: to how individuals now who profess to believe in her as called of God, had tears in her eyes when relating how much difference there is between who her grandmother really was and how people depict her. However, we do need to be sympathetic toward those who have somehow become enemies of the Lord's called, for they will have much to answer for if they do not change their direction. "He permitted no one to do them wrong; Yes, He rebuked kings for their sakes, Saying, “Do not touch My anointed ones, And do My prophets no harm.” Moreover He called for a famine in the land; He destroyed all the provision of bread." One of the greatest evidences of the Spirit's leading in the revelations of the Spirit of Prophecy, is the vehemence exerted against them. No one applies such intensity against Santa Clause, or Paul Bunyan and his blue ox, or the Wizard of Oz and countless other fairy tales. If there were not Truth behind Ellen White's repeating of Divine revelations she would be given all the due regard of the many fairy tales granted those, while the authors go home rich having tickled the fancy that comes from something requiring no sacrifice. "Gather my saints together unto me; those that have made a covenant with me by sacrifice." Psalm 50:5 KJV Blessings! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
