Here is the spirit that Ellen White engenders in her staunch and committed followers:

Haldog comes on the forum with a perspective most of you don't appreciate or agree with. He expresses a viewpoint at odds with what you are certain is true about EGW. So in your loving kindness and concern for his salvation and in order to help him along the road to finding truth you jump all over him as a lion on a lamb and rip him to shreds, returning his criticisms of your beliefs with much more sever criticism of your own. You are so convinced that he is wrong and you are right that you feel the need to vigorously defend a position that you already hold to be true. Then, after you rake him over the coals you congratulate yourselves on a job well done. Why should you care what he believes? If you were as secure in your belief in EGW as you believe you are then you would feel no need to defend her. All you would do is point out in loving kindness where Haldog is not seeing the true picture of EGW, give him time to acclimatise to a new paradigm and leave it at that.

What this shows me is that your own uncertainty about your own position translates into wholly inappropriate condemnation of someone else and his position (I have personally experienced this). In my OPINION your collective attitude toward EGW and her writings boarders on fanatical, and goes farther in defense of her than even of the inerrancy of the Bible.

It is plain that you want to drive away anyone that doesn't agree completely with your viewpoints not only of EGW but of the Bible, Paul, prophetic exegesis and Adventist doctrine. IF this is the spirit that is promoted by your love of EGW then that just shows me that the spirit that moved EGW is not the Spirit of God.

Oh please MM, My but we do have a flare for the dramatic don't we? Nobody jumped on Haldog and tore him to shreds. I asked him one simple logical question out of curiosity. It's not as if we just met Haldog, he's been saying things like that for some time now, so out of curiosity I asked him a simple question. There was no venom at all in the question, from me or anybody else. Then you come along acting as if we had gone to the mans house and set it on fire.

I have the same curiosity about you. Your doctrine has nothing to do with SDA doctrine, not even close. In fact it tears down everything we believe in, yet you insist on calling yourself SDA. You may be a lot of things, but SDA isn't one of them.

Appropriately put, Richard. Not having pursued Haldog and not knowing all that he has commented on , I have a tendency to agree with you. OTOH, our Lord still asks us to love him while he places the crown of thorns so gently on the brow of those he disagrees with.

I ran into a very good solution this morning, to our mutual dilemma.

That's why I was holding back. But point well taken. Eventually I will just stop responding to the Ellen White and Paul hate speech.

I'm sorry you guys, but your tone to me is one of disinterested superiority with a touch of incredulity. You don't really care what or why Haldog or I or Wayfinder thinks about any of the topics in which you participate, and certainly don't come across as the least bit curious about our motives. Your are only interested in confirming what you already believe and are not interested in looking at anything new or different that disagrees with your already firmly established beliefs.

From my perspective you seem to find it impossible to allow someone the opportunity to express their position without feeling the need to prove the superiority of yours in response.

Believe me when I say that I am not the least bit worried about your stance on EGW or Paul or anything. You are a main line SDA and believe just what the church tells you to believe. The only agenda that I can see that you have is to find better ways of proving that which has already been established. That is fine with me. What I find so difficult to understand is why you do not merely allow others the perogative to find ways to show that everything may not be as it seems inside Adventist thought. Where is your sense of adventure, where is your desire to expand the frontiers of truth?

I am not here to force you away from your closely held beliefs, it's not my job and I don't want that responsibility, and I couldn't do it even if I wanted to. I, and others like me, only want the opportunity to discuss these issues in an open forum where we will not be demeaned for our beliefs.

Just because I believe differently from you and from main stream Adventism does not mean that I am not an SDA, it just means I am not your kind of SDA.

The point is MM, that if you are SDA, then that means you accept the Canon, it is part of the fundamentals.

You clearly do not, so you have started, with your friends a "new belief" system.

It is one thing for many of us to disagree on non-salvation issues and still hold the same faith.

It is quite another to decide a "new cannon" and then throw out clear doctrinal positions and the basis understanding of inspiration.

I for one, am not saying I do not care about you, but I recognise you are preaching another gospel, a false gospel.

Unfortunately I have to agree that this is a growing problem here on this forum. Some here feel they "own" the Adventist Church and anyone who disagrees with their view ... is not SDA. Sad ... but true.

I've been told many times that I don't believe in most of what Ellen White says. Of course this is a lie. But they try to claim ownership of EGW interpretation. Yet they are the ones that ignore much of her writings so that they can keep their agenda and theories.

I am not weighing in on the issue about you and others here. But I do agree that there is much abuse being passed out to those who differ with some posters. Instead of saying they disagree with your view ... they decide to call your faith a "false gospel". Why can't we treat people with respect?

What is interesting about this Redwood, is that you have constantly hounded Sky to prove he is an SDA across many boards and stated that "you do not sound like an SDA" on so many occassions.

Therefore rejecting him as a member because he did not agree with you.

Therefore, does the above post also apply to you?

Yeah, all I did was ask what of her books has he read.

Yeah, all I did was ask what of her books has he read.

I read most of ellens popular books before I graduated Thunderbird Adventist Academy, even the 7 volumes of Testimonies. I was a prolific reader while in school, regularly reading 200-300 books/year from 2nd grade up until I got married. I remember clearing out the small library at South Bend Junior Academy (I think that was the name of the SDA school there) and I was only there for grades 1-3.

Name it and I read it from the denominational writings of the 60's and 70's that were available to me.

Hope that answers your question.

If you find out that you were wrong and change your thinking then you are the better for it. If you go to the Word and find out that you were right then you have been strengthened. But either way always go to the Word!!” Billye Brim

I thought there were 9 volumes of testimonies.

It seems to me that a lot of rejection of the Bible and Ellen White results from the erroneous fundamentalist concept of the nature of inspiration. Fundamentalism is a tool of the devil.

Thanks for letting me know. Interesting how I read the same books and came to a different conclusion than you. To me, her books speak to me the same way the Bible does.

I also get a great blessing when I read her work. I get a blessing when I read many a work, but with hers I always want to run and get my Bible.

Gail, when I read her books, I feel I am sitting at the feet of Jesus explaining the Bible to me.

So you burned your set! So you are here as a former adventist.

Which brings me back to my original question: Why do you want to "hang out" so to speak, with people who believe Ellen White is a true prophet of God?

The attitude and motives of the reader are so very important. That's even more important than intelligence or how much a person has read. It's the same with the Bible.

If someone reads Ellen White's books or the Bible when they're young, there's a good probability that they will find that their view of these things will be quite different when they read them later on in life.

As a kid I hated Ellen White. In Academy, I made fun of friends who read her. But today I love her and am really blessed when I read her now.

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Richard, he's trying to help us. You see, Richard, you and I are victims of a cult. We have been brainwashed. We are not following Jesus. We are following a deluded woman.

But do you remember how this "deluded" woman warned that if we reject the Testimonies the next step is to reject the Bible. MM has already thrown away most of the New Testament. The next thing to go is the Old Testament.

Right?

Thats very true, especially if you are brought up as an adventist. For the youth her writings are unwelcome because they feel condemned the moment they begin to read the 9 volume of the Testimonies for the church.

For me it was different. I was 23 years old when I began reading her writings, I was hungering and thisting for the truth. What a difference it made in my search for answers. I had read close to a hundred books from the Canadian Bible Society before I began reading The Great Controversy. When I did, all the other books I had read before faded into insignificance, even books written by the best evangelical authors out there.

It was then that I began understanding the Scriptures. Before it was just a big mystery and blurry. There was so much confusion in my mind but her books made the Bible come alive and I began to see light in God's light.
