That is a quote often used to point out the similarity between those who believe in Jesus and what the devil believes. However in context the belief of the devil was only that God is One, not that he trusted or accepted anything else about Jesus. And looking back on the Scripture referring to the same, it appears it is referring to "devils" plural, as opposed to "devil" singular. "Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble."James 2:19 KJV Believing in Christ being a condition of salvation then, is not contradicted by this scripture text. May I suggest we are not saved by faith, but by grace through faith, and that faith is not even derived apart from Christ. You are absolutely correct, but Paul also seems to use the terms "saved by grace" "saved by faith" interchangeably. Quote
