Very interesting sounding seminar. But I can remember back when I was living in NYC about 40 years ago and hearing the same things than about leaving and/or moving out of the cities. I do believe that EGW even mention this back in her day. So this has been attempted for a long time. I think that there are those that believe its easier to work for people in the cities from the city. Isn't there a saying that says "live in the world but don't be part of the world"? I remember when I moved up to MA and was working for AUC press we had a girl that quit to go work for and live with a bunch of people that would drive down to NYC, not sure if they went everyday or just on weekends, to go around and pray with and feed, etc. people they would come in contact with. But eventually as gas prices started to rise it became very hard to maintain this. So it seems its much more easier and probably better to be living in the cities. I do believe though that someday when we wont be able to do any good anymore that getting ourselves out of the cities will be a very wise thing to do. And maybe your right, maybe that time is fast approaching.

*delete* I am going to *delete* my thoughts before I say them because they might be considered the dreaded word ... POLITICAL.

What's political about moving out of the cities. I did it 23 years ago, and have never looked back.

Turmoil and Confusion.--It is not God's will that His people shall settle in the cities, where there is constant turmoil and confusion. {AH 136.3}

Cities Offer No Real Benefit.--There is not one family in a hundred who will be improved physically, mentally, or spiritually by residing in the city. Faith, hope, love, happiness, can far better be gained in retired places, where there are fields and hills and trees. Take your children away from the sights and sounds of the city, away from the rattle and din of streetcars and teams, and their minds will become more healthy. It will be found easier to bring home to their hearts the truth of the word of God. {AH 137.2}

Impending Destruction.--The time is near when large cities will be swept away, and all should be warned of these coming judgments. Oh, that God's people had a sense of the impending destruction of thousands of cities now almost given to idolatry! {AH 136}

I think sometimes this whole subject is quite misunderstood at best. This kind of thing only works for people who have the money to do so. It is near impossible for most to do right now. I don't want to be like the Mormons and sit around thinking that a bunch of little tins of food are going to save me when such times hit that the "get out of the cities" quotes speak of. Do you know how fast such provisions and stockpiles can be taken from you? If you understood some of the technology available to find people in the mountains and the country-side, maybe you would go to a different kind of seminar?

"People [rarely] see...the bright light which is in the clouds..." (Job 37:21)

should rage so fiercely round me in it's wrath

But this I know: God watches all my path

And I can trust"

Why? The seminar only tells you how to do what you say is near impossible to do. Also we are told by inspiration to get out. Of course there will be those who wait until it is too late, because they didn't take the prophet seriously.

Get out of the large cities as fast as possible. {AH 139}

We should now begin to heed the instruction given us over and over again: Get out of the cities into rural districts, where the houses are not crowded closely together, and where you will be free from the interference of enemies. (For further detailed counsel on this topic see Country Living.) {AH 141}

Let children no longer be exposed to the temptations of the cities that are ripe for destruction. The Lord has sent us warning and counsel to get out of the cities. {CL 12}

Well; we tried it and it back fired on us in a major financial way. Like I said; it only works for people who have the bucks to do what they want. And please don't give me the line that we "didn't have enough faith."

In many countries and locations, there is absolutely no where to go and "be free of the enemy."

I have more to say on this but will start a new thread.

Sounds good. Let me know where.

So because for some reason it didn't work for you, NOBODY should heed the words of the prophet, and should find a different seminar to go to? What you say about it only working for people with big bucks, simply is not true. In fact most of the people I know who have heeded the warning and done it, do not have, nor ever had, big bucks.

I didn't say "big bucks" and I didn't say "Nobody."

I said that this is a subject that is very misunderstood and misapplied. And it cannot work for most - but it does work for some. I stress the word "some" as in the sense of a very small minority. Most will never get a chance to do this; and you talk like we need to do it to be "saved" at a certain point in history when the conflict reaches a certain phase.

Well, perhaps your experience determines your thinking on this. What happened, friend?

Well; my experience has some to do with this obviously, but I don't see how we can think that it is possible for everyone to get out of the cities. Many places don't even have mountains, and the ones that do - well there is not enough room in the mountains for all these people. (atleast in most locations).

I would have to refresh my memory again as to exact references, but I am sure there are other quotes that would provide better balance to this subject than what Richard quoted. We were too far from the city to survive the extra costs of "making a living" and to make a long story short, there is counsel (S.O.P.) that also talks about being properly prepared and actually knowing that God is calling you to do this. I don't think He expects that everyone will be able to "get out of the city." yet, many of those will be saved...won't they?

So did you mean little bucks? It doesn't look that way.

So who are you referring to then, since you didn't say "Nobody"?

OK, so now you want to say what I really mean, instead of what I say I mean? You are sounding a lot like all the gleeful accusations of church members when our attempt at "getting out of the city" didn't work. You should just face the fact that you have no answer to the many people who will never in a million years find a way to "get out of the city."

At least you made an attempt. And no I don't have any answers, but God does. And He may be using the seminar people to help those who want to do what they can, while they can, regarding the instruction.

There is usually more than one "side" to any "instruction." (no matter what the topic). I wonder if anyone giving such seminars have even tried to consider the other sides of the "get out of the city" doctrine.
