I don't understand all this fear of the Spirit of Prophecy. It is to be one of the greatest gifts given for men until the end.

1 Corinthians 14;

1 Pursue love, and earnestly desire the spiritual gifts, especially that you may prophesy. 2 For one who speaks in a tongue speaks not to men but to God; for no one understands him, but he utters mysteries in the Spirit. 3 On the other hand, the one who prophesies speaks to people for their upbuilding and encouragement and consolation. 4 The one who speaks in a tongue builds up himself, but the one who prophesies builds up the church. 5 Now I want you all to speak in tongues, but even more to prophesy. The one who prophesies is greater than the one who speaks in tongues, unless someone interprets, so that the church may be built up.

Yes James, a greater than Pentecost of old is at hand and many are having deams and visions. Those filled with HIS Spirit will know the true from the false.

"It is not His will that they shall get into controversy over questions which will not help them spiritually, such as, Who is to compose the hundred and forty-four thousand? This those who are the elect of God will in a short time know without question."--1SM 174 (1901). {LDE 269.1}

But all are to strive, full surrender, death of self, trusting and obeying.

"We are to copy no human being. There is no human being wise enough to be our criterion. We are to look to the man Christ Jesus, who is complete in the perfection of righteousness and holiness. He is the author and finisher of our faith. He is the pattern man. His experience is the measure of the experience that we are to gain. His character is our model. Let us, then, take our minds off the perplexities and the difficulties of this life, and fix them on Him, that by beholding we may be changed into His likeness. We may behold Christ to good purpose. We may safely look to Him; for He is all-wise. As we look to Him and think of Him, He will be formed within, the hope of glory. {Mar 241.7}

Let us strive with all the power that God has given us to be among the hundred and forty-four thousand." {Mar 241.8}

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Your post appears to be a response to Rich. Rich has already come out opposed to much of the NT - in his rejection of the writings of Paul.

Why in the world would you then urge him to accept something from 1Cor 14 (the writing of Paul) or Ellen White or anyone else?

His problem begins with rejection of the NT itself.

I guess Gibs I should've asked who said that? I'm guessing it was EGW? For some reason it didn't sound like her.

Maranatha was a devotional book compiled by the EGW Estate, an EXCELLENT read.

This particular statement, "strive to be among the 144,000", originated on March 9, 1905 in a Review and Herald article. The article was a portion of a sermon by EGW delivered in 1903. On occasion, I like to track a profound statement found in a compilation back to it's original source. That is not always easy or even possible. Sometimes the original source may be an obscure little known letter, a diary entry or a simple note to someone.

While I hesitate to enter into dialog of who or what comprises the 144,000, I love to study the attributes that group will have. Understanding their character is the first step in "striving" to be one of them. It doesn't matter if I actually attain that lofty goal or not, it's a worthy goal in itself! :)

We know a couple of things about them for sure.

They have put away all known sin. They are in perfect harmony with one another. One other thing that is my personal take on their character is Daniel 12:7. When this group gets to the point where "their power is broken" every trace of "self" is at last removed. Their reliance is totally focused on Christs righteousness as their blessed and only hope. THEN, shall the end come.

Yes ClubV12,

We are to keep looking higher and higher and striving for a closer walk even to the point of perfection in HIM as He was as He walked we are do the same. No not all will be of that wonderful 144k but it is the goal to strive for and should and must be the hearts desire no doubt if we are truly His. Death of self completely and Born again a New Creature in Him which strives for His perfection.

How much higher than the actual words words of Jesus given to us by His eyewitnesses can you get?

There is nothing higher, except to actually have Christ in us living those words.

Isaiah 58:8Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the LORD shall be thy reward.

LOL, that would be correct but for one major problem-the deception of Satan. Tell me this, what is the test to make sure the 'thing' living inside us is the Holy Spirit and not a demon? While many might not agree because they have been duped like Paul, 2nd Cor. 12:7-9 presents all of us with this same problem--IS the voice or the 'thing' inside us God's or is it Satan's?

Yes Lynn, an amazing quote, to be sure, when you stop to really think about what it is saying. The second quote is saying the same thing but in a different way.

Thanks pk. Glad you like it too. :)

True, but the first one says it more explicitly. We always think of Adam and Eve as being perfect beings before sin, but it looks like they had room to grow, even before sin. Does this mean they were not perfect?

I agree, it is more explicit. Adam and Eve would have grown spiritually in reflecting God's image more and more but we must not forget that they were created a little lower than the angels. But after the fall, Adam, through faith in the merits of a Saviour to come, became a partaker of Christ's nature, a nature FAR ABOVE that which he forfeited by transgression.

The reason being that the first Adam was from the earth but the second Adam is the Lord from Heaven. (1 Cor.15:47)

By becoming man Christ united His divinity with our humanity. Man and God became one. What a union is this!!! It is a union, a oneness with God that even the angels who have never sinned cannot know. To the angels it is a marvel and it is their great joy to help bring fallen man into that oneness with God, forever one with Christ and the Father.

This is food for thought.

Christ in you, the hope of glory!

Has anybody thought about how this quote might affect the discussion on the nature of Christ when He was born? I don't want to derail the thread but it did strike a chord.

How does a delusional, legalistic,false prophet come up with ideas like this?? No wonder she was seen as possessing the Testimony of Jesus!

Doug, what are u talking about? we need to find our bearings back.

She is simply saying that Jesus is deeply anxious for us to understand for what purpose His divinity was united to our humanity. To show what every human being might become, what, through the indwelling of humanity by divinity, all who received Him would become--for this Christ came to the world.

Eph.3:14-19.
