If the Christ that is invited in to our lives is not powerful enough to give life without practicing sin, then what reason would there be to give that invitation? God blesses! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
BobRyan Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 1 John 2:1 "these things I write to you that you sin not" "I buffet my body and make it my slave LEST after preaching the Gospel to others I myself should be disqualified" 1Cor 9 =============================== Let no Christian seek to excuse himself in sin on the ground that others who have claimed to follow Jesus have committed the same errors. Your sin is none the less heinous because others have been guilty; and your manifest duty is to confess your sin to Jesus Christ, your intercessor. Take the weight of your woe to no human being. You have one mediator, Jesus Christ the righteous. In contrition of soul go to him and tell all your sins. The promise is sure, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." John says: "My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous." "That ye sin not,"--here is where you bring yourself into condemnation when you continue to sin. But in the strength of Christ cease to sin. Every provision has been made that grace should abide with you, and that sin may appear to you the hateful thing it is. But if any man sin, he is not to give himself up to despair, and talk like a man who is lost to Christ. "If any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world." {RH, March 21, 1912 par. 1} Signs of Times July 20 Let us arise in faith, and press closer to Jesus. Let us rejoice in his love. We may obtain the most precious victories. There is help for us in God. Let us grasp the promises, and look to Calvary. Jesus died to save us from sin; then let us cease to sin, and open the heart wide, that he may come in and abide with us. {ST, July 20, 1888 par. 5} ====================== It is "both AND". Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.

JoeMo Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 LHC, You said "If the past is true from the Word, what is newly discovered must be consistent with the truth from the past." You also asked "If the Christ that is invited in to our lives is not powerful enough to give life without practicing sin, then what reason would there be to give that invitation?" I never said that Christ's invitation is not powerful enough to give life without practicing sin. His commands are His enablements. Do we always practice our spirituality with all the power He makes available to us? For me, the answer is "NO". When I don't use all the power available to me, am I lost? "NO" The same Bible that tells me that I am a sinner tells me that when I confess my sin, He is faithful to forgive my sin and cleanse me from all unrighteousness. Part of His invitation is "Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light." Are you tired of striving? Are you tired of working so hard to measure up to perfection? Rest in Jesus! Lay your head on His chest; and feel His heart beat. That's His love for you! He will never foresake you! Quote

Gibs Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 No to anyone's question, am I tired of trying to measure up? No way shape or form. His Burden is Light and His Yoke is easy for sure. What little is expected of me is done by my faith in Him and my Love for Him. Yes it is really a pleasure to measure up as He expects and I am elated to please Him. I please Him first and best of All because I love Him best and most of All. I'm going to state a fact here now I think you all realize. That is, when one steps out of line, His Spirit convicts you that you have done wrong. Now if His Spirit isn't convicting you of wrong, then you are pleasing Him That's "How We Know!" Now how do we know truth from the lie or error? By the same Spirit! Joh 16:13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come Now don't tell me that by the same Spirit we all see a passage different. No! If we have differing ideas there is a different spirit entered in that needs weeded out. We know when we have sinned by His Spirit, not another, which don't and won't convict of sin, but condones it, you know you haave the wrong one! We know we have the truth, as His Spirit convicts us when we have arrived and then it is perfectly clear from His Word. Without His Spirit, not another, will one discern the truth of His Word! 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
JoeMo Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Gibs, satan isn't called "the accuser of the brethren" because he causes us to condone their sins. He may tempt us to "justify our sins" before we commit them; but afterwards, he throws our sin in our face; telling us that we aren't worthy of forgiveness or salvation. satan would ask me "How can a perfect and righteous God accept an unworthy evil creep like you?" satan tempts us to give up. If we give in to that temptation, we don't approach God's throne for forgiveness and grace. When we give up, indeed, we may be lost. Jesus will never forget us or forsake us. If we are lost, it is because we have turned our backs in Him - not the other way around. He will forgive us 70 times 7 times and more; as long as we seek him (maybe even longer). We are His kids! Good parents don't turn their back on their kids! See the parable of the prodigal son if you think I'm wrong. Quote

Gibs Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 JoeMo, The truth of the matter of sinning is Satan still is the master when we sin. Satan is not my master, Christ only is my Master and He enables the ones He dwells in to overcome the master of deception. We prove we still love to sin when we fall into Satan's trap. We prove whom and what we love most by what we do. I hear this chant of love from so many and they turn around and say I can't quit sinning. The reason is, they still love the sin and Satan is the master of it. Satan became the master over Adam and Eve when they caved in and sinned. Did they continue in sin, I think not. But sin corrupted their hearts and souls and the battle began and continued as long as they lived to not allow Satan to be the master no more. We must come to hate sin with all our hearts and souls, We must come to Love God with all our hearts and souls. Self must die, be killed to never be resurrected again or Satan will again get the control and then does his will instead of God'a Will. We show of our love and prove it by whom we obey. Ro 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? Whom do ye Love Most? Prove it, not to me but to yourself. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. JoeMo Posted October 24, 2012 Author Posted October 24, 2012 Gibs, Yes; "satan is the master of sin". I look forward to the day that he, death, and the grave are thrown into the lake of fire. No, We DO NOT "prove we still love to sin when we fall into Satan's trap"; we show we are still broken and vulnerable to temptation by a powerful foe; and that we need the love and grace of a Savior. We DO NOT "prove whom and what we love most by what we do". If you have kids, did you ever doubt their love for you when they screwed up? I may have for a moment, until I came back to my senses. God never leaves His senses; so He never thinks like that. Yes, "we must come to hate sin with all our hearts and souls". Have you ever done anything that you hate? I have. I'm overweight; and I hate it. But I just had a big ole piece of chocolate cake with cream cheese icing for dessert after eating a gargantuan green chile burrito smothered with cheese. I feel like a stuffed sausage. I hate it; but I predict I will do it again. In a past life, sometimes I would drink till I threw up. I hated it. Thank God I quit after the first few dozen times. Yes, "we show of our love and prove it by whom we obey". But sometimes we (at least I) screw up. No excuse - just a statement of fact. I'd bet another smothered burrito that if you thought hard enough, you would have to admit that you do the same. The only people who say they don't are those that have a serious denial problem. Quote
Gibs Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 JoeMo, He said, Joh 14:15 ¶ If ye love me, keep my commandments. CoAspen Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 >If ye love me, keep my commandments.< What are God's commands, Love for Him, and Love for others!! Can you prove that? Of course not! So, who knows your heart? God does! Perhaps it would be best for us to quit arguing about what is in peoples hearts and just get on with 'obeying' the 2nd command!! Circles and more circles, where do they go, only to meet themselves again. Quote
Gibs Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 We have no need CA of proving it to any other but only to ourselves. This makes a good barometer to you to know if you do really love Him over all else. And round and around we go and where it stops nobody knows. Love for God Deut 6:5 and Love for others Lev 19:18 is quoted by Christ precross in Matt 22 as the foundation for all of God's Word. Even the Jews agree with him on the role of those two Mosaic Laws. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted October 25, 2012 Administrators Posted October 25, 2012 Yes, you really must believe Jesus. That's what it's all about. Quote: Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? - 1 John 5:5 Why? How? In Jesus' own words: Quote: These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world. - John 16:33 (And by the way, Jesus said the same thing speaking of sanctification.) Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Gibs Posted October 25, 2012 Posted October 25, 2012 Tom, surely you are not intimating the fact that because Jesus overcame the world we do not have to. He told us to be of good cheer, He hsd showed us how it could be done with Divinty dwelling within. He spoke to us as one of us and taking no power but what is ours to have. Then He gives us the same advantage by Himself dwelling in us and then we too are to do as He did. 1Jo 5:4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. 1Jo 5:5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? Then notice John's statement here, 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
JoeMo Posted October 27, 2012 Author Posted October 27, 2012 Amen, Tom! Paul tells us: " But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. 'I have the right to do anything,' you say—but not everything is beneficial. 'I have the right to do anything'—but I will not be mastered by anything" (1 Cor. 6:11-12). Jesus did this for us. We are both justified AND sanctified as a RESULT of accepting Him and His grace by faith - not as a PREREQUISITE for it. Quote
