Who is the author of ALL Truth? Once you figure out who that is it then becomes easier to negotiate the 'rocks and shoals' (thanks US Navy) that are the lies that are trying to sink your boat and keep you from the safe harbor of Truth.

[Need a hint? It isn't someone who says that they speak FOR God.]

Doesn't it make sense that since a consistent God gave us all truth in the Hebrew Scriptures prior to Christ, that He would also give us all truth in the Greek Scriptures AFTER Christ?

Did God allow Satan to put his lying books in the Hebrew Scriptures? If not, then why would this same God change His way and allow Satan to doctor the books in the Greek Scriptures with lies in such a way that everyone would need to decide for himself what is from God and what is from Satan?

John 3:16-17

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Interesting comments Redwood. I kind of agree. I believe that EGW says in the GC that there will be many that have kept Sunday, will be in heaven. But that at the end times when the Sabbath becomes a issue, we that are left will have to make a choice for or against the Sabbath.

When Christ works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure, we are performing and it is anything but "legalism"... It is called the law of the human and the divine action! This law brings man where he can, united with Divinity, work the works of God. Divine power and the human agency combined will be a complete success for Christ's righteousness accomplishes everything.

"Be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might." Eph.6:10.

This command is a promise for those who rely solely upon the merits of Christ for their salvation for "He speaks and it is done." Psalm 33:9.

So why do you think that you need to go to these other "inspired" writers when you have the source of All Truth right at you fingertips in the words and teachings of Jesus Christ brought to you by Matthew, Mark, John, and Revelation?

Part of the answer is found in the following verses:

John 14: 15-18, 26

John 15: 26, 27

John 16: 12-15

John 10: 27

1) Jesus said that He could not tell us everything at that time. We weren't ready yet. This means that there would be more He would tell us after He went back to heaven. This is precisely what He did. He spoke through prophets and apostles.

2) That was one of the main purposes that He sent the Holy Spirit, who he said would be with us forever, right up to the Second Coming. So we can be absolutely certain that if we truly want Him, He is with us now and won't leave us or forsake us.

3) "My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me."

I hear Jesus' voice in the whole New Testament, including the Epistles of Paul. I believe the evidence is that Jesus led the church in the formation of the word of God, the Bible. That applies equally to the New Testament as well as the Old Testament. It's all one book, and all is the self-revelation of God. This is the consensus of believers down through the ages. If we understand verses such as Matt. 16: 18; 28: 20; John 14: 16, we have to believe that Jesus is leading His church. All of history witnesses to the fact that His church-- virtually all believers in Christ-- accepts the New Testament as the word of God.

Therefore, if someone comes along and teaches that the New Testament is not of God, it is incumbent on them to prove it with convincing, valid evidence. So far I have seen no convincing, valid evidence.

4) Just as Israel needed all the Scriptures, and not merely the books of Moses, so today we need all the Scriptures. For us that means the entire Bible, not merely the OT.

For us to accept only certain books would be like the Sadducees who only accepted the Torah, the five books of Moses.

We need all the light God has sent to us through His prophets.

I don't listen to legalists for they are self-deceived....

Hmmm judging someone as a legalist...

Sounds like something a legalist would do..

"Physician, heal thyself"

Stan, I'm not on a works trip so I wouldn't do that....However, the cure for legalism is the law....As Paul states, "For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, "Do not covet."

You see Paul, as a legalist, thought he knew what coveting was....But when the light from Christ opened his eyes he understood that coveting is much more they simply wanting someone's goodies.....Coveting is self-seeking....When Paul understood this he said, "I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death."

The only cure for the legalist is more law....A deeper understanding of the law. In fact the law was never given as a means of salvation....On the contrary, "through the law we become conscious of sin [singular - the love of self]"....So the giving of the law (especially its spiritual side] actually made matters worse. It turned self-deception into transgression....

So the only cure for legalism is to lay it on extra thick with law, law, law....That's the reason God gave the Old Covenant - to open the eyes of the self-righteous. Hence it was designed to place the glory of men in the dust and do for him what he could not do for himself, namely save him in Christ Jesus....
