Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 13, 2010 Members Posted January 13, 2010 Some here on the forum seem to think that I should not play the "devil's advocate" on subjects. The reason I do is to present contrasting data that states different outcomes than what was being presented. That is called "playing the devil's advocate".... If someone is offended by that, that's too bad. Deal with it. Oh, and by the way, I drink coffee too. Anyone want to damn me for that, too? ntmomitf Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. Funny, isn't it, how we accept Grace for ourselves and demand justice for others?
Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 13, 2010 Administrators Posted January 13, 2010 Oh, you are in quite good company around here on both counts. Those who work exclusively from an Adventist apologetics perspective little understand or appreciate the value or benefit of either. And for the record, IMHO yodmitf. Don't let the bloviators get to you... Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." "Sinless perfection is such a shallow goal." "I love God only as much as the person I love the least." *Forgiveness is always good news. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Administrators Gail Posted January 13, 2010 Administrators Posted January 13, 2010 Bursting a neat little bubble, are you? It is good to know what to do when someone approaches you with contrasting arguments. I run into it all the time. One needs to know how to pick one's battles. Outta Here Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 I appreciate greatly you, and others, who "play devil's advocate" here on this forum--and in "real" life, such as in Sabbath school classes. Far too often, the perspective seen on forums is "rose colored". It is refreshing, to me, to see a balanced view of reality. Quote

Members abelisle Posted January 13, 2010 Members Posted January 13, 2010 Hmm . . . let me see? All of the above implies that I can exercise intellectual freedom and not necessarily tow the "party line?" And I can agree to disagree, knowing that this community, for the most part, is a loving one for whom a Christian lifestyle is the paramount testimony to others, knowing that we are for some the only Christ they will ever know? And that we have to respect the educational levels, cultural backgrounds, life experiences, spiritual growth etc. of each other in this community? teresaq Posted January 13, 2010 Posted January 13, 2010 merely providing the meaning of devils advocate and not addressing this to anyone in particular. from wikipedia: In common parlance, a devil's advocate is someone who takes a position he or she does not agree with for the sake of argument. This process can be used to test the quality of the original argument and identify weaknesses in its structure. Quote facebook. /teresa.quintero.790

Dr. Shane Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I can drink a caffeinated beverage before going to sleep, and it doesn't keep me awake at all. I use to be that way. In college I would go out with friends at night and drink pots of coffee, go home and sleep like a baby. Now if I drink a cup of caffeinated coffee after noon I will toss and turn hours later when trying to get to sleep. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... SivartM Posted January 14, 2010 Posted January 14, 2010 I drank coffee a few weeks ago. Bleh. It was bitter (ever after I added three or four sugar packets) and it gave me a headache.
