Overaged Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 It means "my opinion does not matter in this forum." and I was right. I disagree. I have been enjoying following your posts in the various subjects we are both posting in. Without your opinions; there would be an essential piece of the whole puzzle missing. LifeHiscost Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Quote: Oh, and by the way, I drink coffee too. Anyone want to damn me for that, too? We can sit down and have a cup of coffee together. I like mine nice and strong. (and it has to be organic and fair-trade - that's what my inner Quaker insists on whenever I do the grocery shopping.) aldona Every body to their own poison. [subscribe to NaturalNews Insider Email Alerts] caffeine The hidden dangers of caffeine: How coffee causes exhaustion, fatigue and addiction Yes, caffeine is a drug, even though it's something that you ingested in your beloved chocolate bars and colas since early childhood. You probably don't drink as much coffee as I drank, but just one caffeinated drink – whether it's a soft drink, caffeinated tea or coffee – will put your body on the caffeine rollercoaster. When you consume caffeine, the drug begins its effects by initiating uncontrolled neuron firing in your brain, according to Stephen Cherniske in his book, Caffeine Blues. This excess neuron activity triggers your pituitary gland to secrete a hormone that tells your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin. Adrenalin is what gives athletes that winning burst of energy and Good Samaritans the ability to rescue people by lifting cars. Adrenalin is also the source of our "fight-or-flight" response, which enabled our prehistoric ancestors to escape from saber-toothed tigers and other predators. By stimulating your adrenal glands to produce adrenalin, caffeine puts your body in this "fight-or-flight" state, which is useless while you're just sitting at your desk. When this adrenal high wears off later, you feel the drop in terms of fatigue, irritability, headache or confusion. LifeHiscost Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I drink either. Caffeine doesn't seem to affect me the way it does with a lot of people. I can drink a caffeinated beverage before going to sleep, and it doesn't keep me awake at all. You're fortunate to have a very healthy body, capable of withstanding some of the less debilitating items in which people find pleasure. It's different with different people, but many about the age of 50-55 begin to have aches and pains that they don't find totally comfortable, and as time goes by the body becomes less and less capable of withstanding the abuse it has been called to endure. There is always hope though. While smoking is not exactly the same type of abuse, it is my understanding that when one finally overcomes the addiction it only takes about a year for the body to recuperate enough so the mortality rate is the same as a person who has never smoked. A great problem lies in the addiction, although my father quit cold turkey overnight after 47 years of smoking two or more packs a day. He then took up chocolates, probably not recognizing they filled, to some extent, the draw that smokes had. He died at the age of 66 after being diagnosed with amyotropic lateral sclerosis, within 6 months of the diagnosis. He was visited by a Christian pastor of another denomination who convinced him of the grace of Jesus, Whom he accepted as Savior, and I expect to see him in the kingdom but I believe he could have saved himself a lot of problems had he realized the importance of healthful living. LifeHiscost Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 I use it to treat my migraines. You might try taking feverfew capsules. My wife takes 2-380 Mlg capsules 2xday and very seldom has migraines anymore. Sometimes she takes an extra dose but normally the 2xdaily is fully adequate for elimination of any headaches. It's not like an aspirin, but requires continuous use. And it doesn't have any adverse side affects, unlike aspirin. Joy!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 [ If you want to take this stance that no matter if it is decaf or not we shouldn't have it, then either you are a legalist who follows the letter of the law despite it's illogistics, or a hypocrite if you consume sugar at all. I think the principle is found in this Word. "What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's." 1 Corinthians 6:19,20 KJV Joy!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
LifeHiscost Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 And you are absolutely right about the sugary foods. The typical Adventist vegetarian, or even vegan, diet isn't really healthy. It's an improvement over eating meat, but still isn't very healthy. Is it right to assume you know what the typical Adventist vegetarian or vegan eats? Wiemar would be interested in hearing where you get your information. And you do have some argument from Daniel. "So Daniel said to the steward whom the chief of the eunuchs had set over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah, “Please test your servants for ten days, and let them give us vegetables to eat and water to drink. Then let our appearance be examined before you, and the appearance of the young men who eat the portion of the king’s delicacies; and as you see fit, so deal with your servants.” So he consented with them in this matter, and tested them ten days. And at the end of ten days their features appeared better and fatter in flesh than all the young men who ate the portion of the king’s delicacies. Thus the steward took away their portion of delicacies and the wine that they were to drink, and gave them vegetables. "Daniel 1:11-16 NKJV Joy!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!

GreatLakesGramma Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 At another potluck, a friend told me she had made her dish with rice cheese, so I could eat it. I am allergic to milk, more specifically to milk proteins. Rice cheese, and most soy cheeses contain milk proteins, so that they will melt in the same way real cheese does. So they do not solve any problems for me. I think that the majority of Adventist vegetarians, or at least a large share of them, eat pretty much the same way as meat eaters, except they use substitutes for all the meats, and dairy products if they are vegan. Most of those substitutes aren't any healthier than animal foods. Hydrolyzed soy, the main ingredient in most soy meat substitutes, is toxic. The toxins go straight to the brain and kill brain cells. Most substitutes for animal foods contain similarly toxic ingredients, such as MSG, autolyzed yeast, and modified starches. They may not be as bad with regard to heart disease, etc., but they will cause other health problems, which few will ever connect with their diet. Most vegetarian Adventists that I know eat that way without ever studying anything about diet. They just assume that if you leave out the meat, anything goes. The ones who study tend to do better, depending on how far they go with that study. I personally have developed diet-related health issues on a vegan diet, using recipes from typical Adventist vegan cookbooks, but reducing the sweeteners, salt, and fats in all of them. They are called excitotoxins and include glutamates and free proteins (such as the casein you described). They are implicated in major neurological diseases such as MS, Alzheimer's, dementia, and Lou Gehrig's disease. We have a DVD that pinpoints what they do, what diseases they contribute to and what various names they appear as on ingredients lists. AND- they can also cause migraines. I got a whopper yesterday and my boss reminded me that I had been eating Chinese food all week as part of lunch ordered in at work.
