Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 16, 2010 Author Members Posted January 16, 2010 Hydrolyzed soy, the main ingredient in most soy meat substitutes, is toxic. The toxins go straight to the brain and kill brain cells. Most substitutes for animal foods contain similarly toxic ingredients... GLG, could you list the article where you got the information on about toxins killing brain cells? I couldn't find anything about that in my search, and I'm interested in that. Thanks!!! I know here in the states we just tell them please no MSG and they leave it out. I personally don't care to eat out if at all possible. From what I've heard not only chinese food but pizza also and most fast food restaurants. I prefer to eat at home. Like my own and wife's cooking better than any restaurant, and its cheaper and taste's better too. pk pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. I am suspecting the "kills brains cells" falls within the same category of myth of the very common misconception that alcohol consumption kills brain cells. It doesn't. It may alter brain cell interaction and function, but it doesn't kill brain cells. Otherwise alcoholics would die of some form of dementia, like Alzheimers, and not Cirrhosis of the Liver. And that is the gospel truth. (And finally, the ideas expressed above are solely my person views and not that of any organization with which I am associated.)
Woody Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Thing is ... we have FAR more brain cells than we need or use. So, killing off a few unused ones ... is no big deal. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.

GreatLakesGramma Posted January 16, 2010 Posted January 16, 2010 Pam, I read about it in The Guilt-Free Gourmet cookbook, by Vickie Griffin. It originally came from a book called "Excitotoxins: The Taste that Kills" by Dr. Russell Blaylock. Dr. Blaylock is a retired neurosurgeon. Quote Catherine God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. Psalm 73:26. "To be a Christian means to forgive the inexcusable, because God has forgiven the inexcusable in you." -- C. S. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted January 16, 2010 Author Members Posted January 16, 2010 Thanks, GLG. I've heard of Dr. Blalock Quote: Blaylock has been quoted several times in media outlets regarding his position that MSG is toxic to the brain.[11][12][13] He also states that the widely-used artificial sweetener aspartame is toxic[14][15] and may be the cause of multiple sclerosis.[16] He has additionally cautioned against heavy use of the artificial sweetener Splenda (sucralose).[17] These positions are not supported by scientific consensus or regulatory bodies, as extensive studies support the safety of aspartame, sucralose, and MSG.[2][3][18] Blaylock has also urged avoidance of the swine flu (H1N1) vaccination, which he claims is more dangerous than the infection itself. In various alternative media outlets, Blaylock has given advice on what he feels an individual should do if faced with mandatory vaccination.[19] Current research indicates that an effective vaccine is a vital tool in protecting the public and that the new H1N1 vaccine is both safe and effective.[4][20] Advertisements selling the 'Blaylock Wellness Report' at newsmax.com contain claims of additional health dangers, including fluoridated drinking water, fluoridated toothpaste, vaccines, dental amalgam, cholesterol drugs, pesticides, and aluminum cookware. from Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Russell_Blaylock Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Administrators Gail Posted January 16, 2010 Administrators Posted January 16, 2010 The DVD I watched is called, Toxic Gourmet and while it does recommend that book, it is done by a man who works in geriatrics. He claims to have helped people with motor diseases simply by removing the excitotoxins out of their diets. They do not kill brain cells (as I understand it, according to him) but interfere with the neurotransmitters and their ability to relay messages. Quote Isaiah 32:17 And the work of righteousness shall be peace; and the effect of righteousness quietness and assurance for ever.

Dr. Shane Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 If MSG is as bad as some of these people claim, that pretty much means there is a giant world-wide conspiracy of various governments to cover it up. Now, a lot of vege-goods are high fat and low fiber. Some of them are worse for the digestive system than meat is. Our biggest meat substitute is beans. Our second most common substitute is nuts. Administrators Gail Posted January 17, 2010 Administrators Posted January 17, 2010 I am finding that as the years go by, I suffer more from general indigestion. This week was a bad one. Yesterday I bought a loaf of nice black Russian rye bread. This morning instead of cereal I ate that with some almond/cashew butter and a grapefruit for breakfast. For lunch I made a huge salad. For supper we went out and I had a vegetarian Greek wrap and a "funky monkey" (chocolate/banana/soy) smoothie from Booster Juice. What a difference in how I feel! The other night I had to take Eno twice due to indigestion PLUS I developed a migraine headache on Friday. My boss reminded me of the Chinese food I had eaten, which I have already posted about. It is SO GREAT to feel good, especially when it comes from a simple change in eating. LifeHiscost Posted January 17, 2010 Posted January 17, 2010 Otherwise alcoholics would die of some form of dementia, like Alzheimers, and not Cirrhosis of the Liver. It's very comforting that my friends who drink will be dieing of cirrhosis of the liver long before they become mentally unstable. BTW GLG, in attending a Weimar program, there were two major principles practiced that probably would identify the major reason they are successful. The first is, daily, WALK WALK WALK. The second is, practice eating whole foods whole, with a small emphasis on raw when advisable. In pursuing their program, somewhat limited in ability as my wife was unable to pursue the walking part, mainly just following their prepared meals, both of us dropped our blood pressure so low we had to stop drinking the tea we were use to drinking as a supplement that had been suggested through another venue to lower blood pressure. On a personal level, after trust in God's grace first and foremost, exercise consistently pursued is more important and allows greater latitude in regard to the minutia of foods one ingests. Joy!! However of the 27,000 people who died last year(?) by way of alcohol related auto accident, I'm sure there were plenty of brain cells that succumbed as the result of alcohol consumption. Here's a really good web page that reveals everything you've always wanted to know about alcohol damage, but were too intimidated to ask. http://pubs.niaaa.nih.gov/publications/aa63/aa63.htm Regards! I don't like store bought bread, it just taste's and smells bad to me. I started making my own bread many years ago and it has been also one of the things that has made it so I don't have headaches. Besides drinking lots of water and getting rid of soda all together. I also think that to much sugar has an effect on you, and cause's headache's also. If you look at the labels of many foods, you will see that there is an abundance of processed sugar that they use. It definitely is a big problem. pk Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
LifeHiscost Posted January 18, 2010 Posted January 18, 2010 Good for you Gail. I, 99.9%, will only eat homemade bread. pk I don't talk that much about my diet as it doesn't seem to make any difference where a person is in there walk with God, if a person mentions some minute ingredient, there will be someone who will go home horror stricken as to the road to perdition either they themselves are surely on, at lest in their eyes, or the conclusion is reached that surely the other is in the clutches of satan's evil grasp that to them indicates that particular individual must be on the slippery slope to hell. This would seem to me to be focusing on a gnat with the possibility of swallowing a camel and a good reason to constantly walk in the light of forgiveness for others, that we ourselves might be assured of our own forgiveness. " But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:15 NKJV And if we don't think we need forgiveness, as we're surely OK without special consideration, perhaps it would be good to spend that hour each day with Jesus reflecting upon His time on the cross, of which murder all are guilty. "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much." Luke 16:10 NKJV Joy!!! Quote Lift Jesus up!!
