Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 21, 2010 Members Posted July 21, 2010 I was reading the NPUC Gleaner, and came across this: Quote: he church listened to prayers and music in native tongues. After Pedro Ramos, Kent Church member, sang, he reminded the audience that they should all learn Spanish. “That’s what we’re all going to be speaking in heaven,” Ramos says. This is America. Learn English like my ancestors did. It isn't up to Americans to learn to communicate with immigrants. It is up to the immigrants to learn English to communicate intelligently with Americans. I'm getting very tired of having to listen to Spanish on the phone when I call a company for service. "Press 1 for English" and then another message in Spanish. And while I'm on the subject, I get tired of having to listen to someone in India trying to communicate with me about technical problems with my computer, credit card, or some other issue. I can't understand what they say half the time. And it's getting so that unless you can speak Spanish as well as English, some companies will not hire you. Isn't that discrimination? Okay. I'm off my soapbox for now. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. If we all sang the same note in the choir, there'd never be any harmony. olger Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 It's a joke. Many people say that about their native language. Sam Bacchiocchi used to joke about Italian being the language of heaven, and Werner jokes about it being German... We all know it's going to be Hebrew, gosh. Quote "Please don't feed the drama queens.."
SivartM Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 No, Esperanto. Of course. I don't think everyone should have to learn Spanish, rudywoofs (although it would be cool). Nobody has to learn any language; it just makes life easier for you if you're in a foreign country. Many immigrants don't speak Spanish, anyway. Members rudywoofs (Pam) Posted July 21, 2010 Author Members Posted July 21, 2010 I went to school in Austria. I was expected to converse in German because that was the native language. So I it was German that I spoke there. Immigrants other than Hispanics seem to be able to learn competent English. When I worked in the hospital, we had many Hispanics come in to the ER for treatment (using the ER as a clinic, and then not paying their bills). They would say "No comprende," but then I'd talk to them to do something, and voila, they could do it. They feigned ignorance. Speaking of Hispanics not paying the hospital bill, on more than one occasion drunk Hispanics would come into the ER. When they got into a hospital gown, the RN's would go through the clothing, and more often than not, there would be wads and wads of $100 bills in the pockets. But they would not pay for services rendered. Quote Pam Meddle Not In the Affairs of Dragons; for You Are Crunchy and Taste Good with Ketchup. Rondo Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 Ever thought that when we are changed in a twinkling of an eye that there may be a universal language we all will instantly speak and understand?? Quote: 1 Cor 15:5 0I declare to you, brothers, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed— 52in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. Quote The 10 essence of Old Covenant
Dr. Shane Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 The old saying is, "If you can't beat them, join them." Well, Spanish-speaking immigrants are far outnumbering other immigrants. America is the fourth largest Spanish-speaking country in the world. That means only three other countries have more Spanish speakers than we do. The immigration service uses quotas to determine how many immigrants from each country can legally come into the US. The quotas use historic data to determine future immigration. The more immigrants that have immigrated immigrated to the US from a specific country in the past, the more that are allowed in the future. That means that in the future we can expect more Spanish-speaking immigrants to come legally than those from other parts of the world. American parents, if you want your children to get ahead, teach them Spanish. In America we have Spanish newspapers, radio stations and TV networks. With the increasing numbers of Spanish-speaking immigrants, that is only going to increase. The Adventist church is taking advantage of this. Our Latino work in the US advancing and the Latinos make up one of the fastest growing groups within our faith. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... LifeHiscost Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 We all know it's going to be Hebrew, gosh. And that's alright with me. God knows how to handle the difficulty. "And how is it that we hear, each in our own language in which we were born? Parthians and Medes and Elamites, those dwelling in Mesopotamia, Judea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia, Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya adjoining Cyrene, visitors from Rome, both Jews and proselytes, Cretans and Arabs—we hear them speaking in our own tongues the wonderful works of God.” So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”"Acts 2:8-12 NKJV Joy!! I thought it was a bit of a running joke in "ethnic" churches of all nationalities... Growing up as a kid in a Polish SDA church, I remember countless examples of English-speaking guest preachers coming to preach the sermon, and either the guest speaker or the translator would make some joke at the beginning about how "Polish is going to be the language we all speak in heaven." Dr. Shane Posted July 22, 2010 Posted July 22, 2010 I get tired of having to listen to someone in India trying to communicate with me about technical problems with my computer, credit card, or some other issue. There is a solution to that. Learn Spanish. Almost all Spanish operators are here in the US. Most are working in either California, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas. Not a lot of Spanish Speakers in India. Then when they say "imprema doz por español" you just push 2 and get a Spanish-speaking American. No more India. try it and thank me later.
