If a man is inient on killing someone he isn't going to think twice about getting a gun, legal or illegal to accomplish his goal Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. You and only you are responsible for every decision and choice you make, period ... ... Wish more people would realize this. Quotes by Susan Gottesman
Dr. Shane Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Palin was right in using the term "blood libel". The term comes from a time when Christians would blame Jews of kidnapping their children and killing them. Its correct usage is when someone blames a whole group of innocent people for the death of someone or a group of other people. So if we blame the NRA for the deaths that came about from the Arizona shootings, and the NRA is innocent of that charge, we would then be guilty of blood libel. The NRA simple protects American's right to bear arms. Now if that right to bear arms is to blame for the Arizona shootings, I think the blame would rest more on the founders who put the Second Amendment in the Constitution than those who seek to preserve it. However that is conjecture. The assassin in the Arizona shootings is crazy. If he hadn't had a gun he could have just as easily made a pipe bomb and perhaps even killed more people with that. We know that the weapon of choice in Rwanda was a machete. A crazy and hate-filled person doesn't need a gun to hurt others. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Moderators John317 Posted January 22, 2011 Moderators Posted January 22, 2011 I completely agree, Shane. We might as well blame the US Constitution, the US Supreme Court and our Founding Fathers as blame the NRA. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Dr. Shane Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 If a man is inient on killing someone he isn't going to think twice about getting a gun, legal or illegal to accomplish his goal This is very true. Guns are illegal in Mexico and all the drug cartels have them. Many of their guns come from the US but also from the Middle East and Asia. The Mexican drug cartels have grenade launchers and rocket propelled grenades which are not coming from the US. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Members phkrause Posted January 22, 2011 Members Posted January 22, 2011 ANOTHER GIFT from your friends from the NRA. No other developed country has anyone like them! I agree with your second sentence. I personally have no liking for guns, but I do believe that its not the NRAs fault for this happening. Or any other shooting we've had. I do believe that they need to clamp down on those selling guns to just anyone. They had a show the other day where a reporter or Journalist went out and showed how easy it was to purchase a weapon of any kind. That's what needs to be stopped. I believe that the NRA has guidelines/rules to go by for purchasing a weapon. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. fccool Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Guns do make it easier, but eventually we can blame bullets... which do the eventual killing, if we go down that road. And bullets are made of lead, so we can blame lead producers for making the material available for bullets. The thing about guns in our world is that they both make it easier and harder to rob someone, which sort of leads me to believe what really matters is the kind of person who is in possession of guns. Give it to a criminal mind, and you'll enhance his ability to be a criminal. Give it to a law abiding person, and you'll enhance his ability to be law abiding. If you put a gun in hands of a lunatic, well... you see the results. I think motivations should be looked at before we make a broad statement how NRA is to blame here. NRA would not approve of the incident. I doubt it would approve of such person owning a gun. Quote

bonnie Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Murder, rape, robbery, arson, child abuse are all illegal and against the law. How has that stopped any of these actions? There should be stiff laws for violating them but making them illegal hasn't worked real well as far as I can tell.So now you are saying a gun ban would somehow magically work? Any criminal worth his salt can obtain a gun.Now do you suppose he will run out and register it before he shoots? someone. The attacked may not have a choice as he has obeyed the law and does not own a gun.How has the laws against drugs worked out for you(general)? I think it is around 15% of guns purchased legally are used in crime? Wonder how many purhcased illegally are used for crimes? I for one do thank the NRA for their relentless efforts concerning personal gun ownership Quote Everything you do is based on the choices you make. Sonny Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 The NRA simple protects American's right to bear arms. Why? Do you really think that if our government went to the dark side of the force (to borrow a Star Wars expression) that the average citizen could put up a fight? The weaponry of the US wouldn't give the average man a fighting chance. Now, where do guns come to play within Christianity? Jesus never fought back. He didn't own any weapons. bonnie Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 We had a incident in MPLS sometime ago with a serial rapist. He waited in a garage until the woman got out of the car and brutally raped her. After raping a elderly woman he picked the wrong one to try it again. Just a little bit of a woman and she fought back with everything she had. He finally tried running away. What he didn't know was the woman was a long distance runner. She grabbed I think a hoe or possibly a shovel and went after him. A neighbor that had seen what happened called the police. The woman ran the rapist down and was beating the tar out of him when the police caught up with them. That beave man was actually pleading for the cops to protect him. To bad she didn't comply with his demands, refuse to fight back as Christ would have done and he could still be out there raping elderly women. Moderators John317 Posted January 22, 2011 Moderators Posted January 22, 2011 The bottom line is that the U. S. Constitution acknowledges the right of American private citizens to own guns. History shows when governments alone have the weapons, the governments often become tyrannical because they have no fear of the people. This is exactly what our Founding Fathers designed our government in order to avoid. The American government is the servant of the people, not the other way around. As Abraham Lincoln said, ours is a "government of the people, by the people, for the people." All power therefore resides in the people, not in the leaders or the government. Yet when government removes all guns from the people, the power then clearly resides in the government, with the people at the mercy of those who are supposed to be their servants. Also, the U.S. Constitution places the military under the control of the people, not under professional soldiers. So while it's true that an armed citizenry is no match against a modern military, yet as long as that military is led by civilians who respect and fear the people, it is not likely that a nation's military consisting of ordinary soldiers and civilian leaders would make war against their fellow citizens. The fact that Americans are known to be well armed is reason enough for the government to do everything it can to avoid going to battle against a significant portion of the American people. If, on the other hand, it knew Americans were unarmed-- if it was accustomed to thinking of the American people as helpless and at the mercy of the government-- it is likely that the government would not have the same attitude. As far as Christians using guns is concerned, I don't believe anyone is arguing that SDAs should take up weapons to fight or kill. However, what's at issue here is the U.S. government and the rights of the people to bear arms, not whether Christians should take part in war or in a violent revolution. I don't have to take part myself in a revolution in order for me to believe the people have a right to bear arms or that they were right to revolt. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

I think you underestimate the power of general population. High-Tech weaponry is not really an issue. The issue is population control. The US with all of its high-tech weaponry can hardly subdue Iraq. These people fought back with guns and improvised explosives. When people own guns, then every citizen is a soldier. You can't invade such country. That's why the "dark forces" keep trying to pass the anti-gun laws. Quote

Christ has given the problems of this world over to its Governments. At the fall mankind chose to live independent of God. As a result mankind is born loving himself.
