Sonny Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 I don't have to take part myself in a revolution in order for me to believe the people have a right to bear arms or that they were right to revolt. We are first in the world with gun related murders. I wonder why? Guns are an enormous temptation to the flesh. You can, at the pull of a trigger, blot someone out of existence. All non-Christians are at the mercy of their natures. Outside God all men are prone to violence and rage. With a gun in the hand it makes killing very easy. Quote

olger Posted January 22, 2011 Posted January 22, 2011 Guns are fine in the right hands. I have 10-12 of them. Some are family keepsakes and some are regularly used. With a gun in the hand it makes killing very easy. It's a lot worse just across the border in Mexico, and there it is illegal for anyone but the police and the military to have guns. What is happening down there wouldn't happen if all Mexicans were armed and it was legal to defend yourself. But as it happens, the only ones with weapons are the criminals and the police, who are often criminals themselves. But they have no fear of the people because they obey the law and carry no weapons. My wife's nephew was killed by undercover Mexican police when they walked up to his car at a gas station and ordered him to get out of his car. When he didn't get out, they shot him. The boy's father was told he'd been shot by gangs but it turned out that he had been shot by the police. But in Mexico they don't investigatte such killings and the police and government never have to answer for their actions. Your son's body is simply returned to the family without even an apology. That is what happens when the government knows the people are not armed and are totally at their mercy. Corruption is the order of the day and the people are helpless to do anything about it. Dr. Shane Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Why? Do you really think that if our government went to the dark side of the force (to borrow a Star Wars expression) that the average citizen could put up a fight? The weaponry of the US wouldn't give the average man a fighting chance. It is debatable whether or not the American founders wanted the public to be armed in order to overthrow the government. Certainly some of the founders wanted that but I think it would be hard to show that there was such a consensus among the framers of the Constitution. However the Second Amendment isn't just about being able to overthrow the government. It is more about being able to defend oneself against criminals, "savage" Indians and againt foreign invaders. It is much more difficult for a nation to invade and conquer another with an armed citizenry than it is to do so to one where citizens are not allowed to be armed. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Dr. Shane Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 Guns and God have nothing in common - nothing! Guns are a tool. They can be used for good or used for bad. I can use a gun to hunt prey and feed the poor. I can use a gun to kill predatory animals seeking to harm human populations. I can use a gun to defend my home against looters after a hurricane. Administrators Tom Wetmore Posted January 23, 2011 Administrators Posted January 23, 2011 ...The big problem with guns are not farmers and people in the country, but people in the cities. Quote: A study of gun-related deaths among kids found an equal rate of death between urban and rural youth. The analysis, published in the journal Pediatrics, found that gun murders were higher among urban youth but that a higher rate of accidental gun deaths in rural areas made up for the difference. The rate — based on data of nearly 24,000 gun-related fatalities among children 19 and younger from 1998 through 2006 — is 4 deaths per 100,000 children, the Associated Press reports. Experts are calling the findings significant because firearms have long been considered mostly an urban problem. - Posted in Firearms, News & Notes http://www.fairwarning.org/2010/05/analysis-finds-gun-deaths-rates-the-same-in-urban-rural-areas/ Quote "Absurdity reigns and confusion makes it look good." Dr. Shane Posted January 23, 2011 Posted January 23, 2011 We are first in the world with gun related murders. I wonder why? I think that has a lot to do with the drug and alcohol abuse in the US. There have been times in the past where more US citizens owned guns and there was less murder. America is sick. America's drug consumption is fueling the war going on in Mexico right now. They might still be running.Predator drones are not the only danger When I was recently married my wife and I lived in a trailer court and our trailer had corrugated metal siding. One night at about midnight we heard someone running along our trailer and it sounded like they were dragging a pipe along the side as we could hear it bounce down the corrugated metal. After this happened a couple of times my young wife was getting pretty frightened. Once it happened the third time, I loaded my shotgun, went outside and walked around our house. When my neighbor saw me he asked what I was doing with a gun. I ignored his question and asked if he saw anyone banging the side of my house. He ignored my question and asked if the gun was loaded. I responded by asking him what good the gun would be if it wasn't loaded. He told me I shouldn't have a loaded gun. I told him people shouldn't be banging on the side of my house at midnight. He called the police and when they arrived they told me the neighbor had called. They checked the gun to see it wasn't stolen and told me to call them if I had any more trouble. Of course, word quickly spread through the trailer court and I never had any more trouble. Quote Pastoral Family Counselor... Find me at www.PostumCafe.com Author of Peculiar Christianity

Moderators John317 Posted January 23, 2011 Moderators Posted January 23, 2011 Yes, the Holy Spirit and hundreds of thousands of angels. These would not allow him to be killed until it was the right time. I do trust God to protect me, but I also believe that God expects us to do what we can to protect ourselves and our families. Not very long ago, there was a young Christian reading the Bible under the street light in a town close to where I live. Gang members came by and shot him to death. Was that God's will? God obviously allowed it, but can we assume that when people die, it is because it is "their time" and that they would have been wrong to defend themselves and done something to keep from being murdered by thugs? I think that would be a wrong assumption. You'll notice that in the New Testament, Christ, John the Baptist, and Peter never suggested that soldiers should quit the military. That was obviously left up to the individuals. Do you believe it is a sin to own a gun or other weapon? Also, do you think it's wrong for an SDA for be a policeman and carry a weapon? I ask because I have a nephew who's a deputy sheriff in Cochise County , Arizona. I myself refused to carry a weapon in the army during the Vietnam war.
