Woody Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 . Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 I agree with that statement but it could lead some people to think that practicing homosexuality is OK with God, and that wouldn't be right, either. But yes, God certainly loves gay people as much as He loves straight people. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
CoAspen Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Question, why is there always a 'but' in so much of Christian theology? We read a positive statement and then throw in a 'but'! Why do we always assume some people 'might think' even though the negative is not expressed in a positive statement? I believe the statement can stand on its own! Quote
Woody Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Woody likes and with no butts. Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 We read a positive statement and then throw in a 'but'! No, there's no "but" in God's agape love. God loves all humanity unconditionally, period! He has saved all men from the second death in Christ's humanity, but.... Yeah, here's the but (the coordinating conjunction) - God won't force anyone to accept His love. He/she must give the God of the universe permission to be part of his/her life. If one rejects God's love he/she rejects the only ticket out of this world dominated by it's god, Lucifer. He/she is rejecting eternal life and immortality. So no, God doesn't hate gays....He wants to be apart of his/her life. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 So, I guess it was God's love for those in Sodom that got them killed? So He loved them soooooo much He had them killed? Hmmmm? Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 Question, why is there always a 'but' in so much of Christian theology? The law and the gospel always go together. When you tell people that God loves them, they often picture God as an old man in a white beard who will save them no matter what. We need to say more than that God loves them. We need to tell the whole gospel. John 3: 16 says more than that God loves us. It says that without Christ we will perish. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Dr. Rich Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 John, How do you know the mind of God? How can anyone say that Jesus loves them? Just because the bible has that in it? I caution everyone not to tell people what God thinks or not. He alone does His own thinking. What that sign read might not be the truth! Remember the flood? Did God love all of those people? Huh? If He did, then I sure don't want Him to love me in the same way! Quote

Woody Posted March 7, 2011 Author Posted March 7, 2011 Quote: When you tell people that God loves them, they often picture God as an old man in a white beard who will save them no matter what. This would be a true picture. God will save us "no matter what" John 6:37 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Christian from the cradle to the grave I believe in Hematology.
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 John, How do you know the mind of God? How can anyone say that Jesus loves them? Just because the bible has that in it? Is there really any doubt in your mind that God loves everyone who's ever lived? I do believe the Bible is the self-revelation of God. God IS love. He can do nothing else but love. Of course, true love in the sense of God's loving us means that He hates sin and unrighteousness and that all who insist on holding onto sin will be destroyed along with the sin they cherish. But God's agape-love simply means that God's desire and plan for us is to be saved in His kingdom. If people aren't saved, it isn't because of God's choice but it is the choice of those who are lost. All who hate God love death. But there is no doubt whatsoever in the Bible-- the word of God-- that God loves all people. His love is unconditional. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 John 6:37 "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out." There's the same idea....We give God permission to be in our lives ... God only retreats when the unbeliever has fully & ultimately rejected his need of God. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 The vast majority of people who have ever lived will be lost. Only a relative few (compared to the number born into this world) will be saved in God's eternal kingdom. That is bad news, especially for God, but it is the truth-- that is, unless the Bible and the Spirit of prophecy are lying. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 God IS love. He can do nothing else but love. Good point. This is not merely one of God's attributes...it's who He is. God is love, yet that love can't force salvation on the unbeliever. Quote
Dr. Rich Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Don't mean to rain on your words, but read Gen. 19:24. Now you tell me who it was who killed all of those gay people? Huh? God did it. Quote
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Maybe, but the positive side is this: Rev 7:9 After this, I saw a great multitude, which no man could number, of all nations and tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and in sight of the Lamb, clothed with white robes, and palms in their hands. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 Yes, I agree. Righteousness= agape/love. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Don't mean to rain on your words, but read Gen. 19:24. Now you tell me who it was who killed all of those gay people? Huh? God did it. They brought destruction upon themselves because they persistently reject God's love. Let's say you are assigned an FBI agent because you've ratted on the mob. Let's say I'm the agent. As long as I remain with you everything is okay, but the day you tell me to get lost that day you die. Who caused your death? You did....You brought destruction upon yourself. Ultimately, as the agent, I am responsible, but since I can't force my protection on you are to blame. Quote
Moderators John317 Posted March 7, 2011 Moderators Posted March 7, 2011 Yes, for sure there will be many millions saved, but compared to the many billions who have lived, it will be a comparative few. Ellen White says that the great majority of people who have lived will perish. The Bible implies this too, when it talks about the end-times, descibing "the whole world" as following after the beast and receiving the mark and the plagues. Then also at the end it says the wicked are as the sands of the sea shore. But you are right that there will be an unnumbered multitude saved, proving that anyone could have been saved if only they had chosen to be. Quote John 3:16-17 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. [17] For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.

Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 Well, the reason people will be lost is unbelief!!! They don't need Christ. That's what secular humanism teaches. Man can solve his own problems without God. Quote
Sonny Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 "God destroys no man. Everyone who is destroyed will have destroyed himself. Everyone who stifles the admonitions of conscience is sowing the seeds of unbelief, and these will produce a sure harvest." [Ellen White - ref?] Quote
SivartM Posted March 7, 2011 Posted March 7, 2011 So if the instances in the Bible of people miraculously dying are caused by people turning away from God, then why don't we see anything like that today? Sin is less destructive now? Quote "Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much." - Oscar WildeDo to others whatever you would like them to do to you. This is the essence of all that is taught in the law and the prophets." - Jesus
