Moderators Bravus Posted April 3, 2011 Moderators Posted April 3, 2011 Maybe I'll get a new set of strings for my classical guitar and play something a bit more to the taste of most denizens here... There is some fantastic positive hiptop - try T-Bone or Cross Movement - and I also enjoy the old skool Run-DMC and the like. It's all just personal taste, folks. Quote Truth is important
doug yowell Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 So when I was warming up to play yesterday, I turned on the camera and tried to knock some of the rust off. How much rust would you estimate came off,Richard? Who did you pattern your style after? How long have you been playing? How much practice has gone into developing your skill? I just listened to your warm-up and my wife and daughter asked,"What are you listening to?" They thought I was backsliding! My wife's former boyfriend (gone Christian)used to play in a hometown version of CS&N. Very talented musician. One of those guys who could play almost anything he picked up. After becoming a Christian he began to work at mastering classical guitar. Said it was rather difficult.Have you ever tried classical? Might be easy for you and you don't even have to vocalize when you play. Quote
doug yowell Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 It's all just personal taste, folks. With no spiritual implications? Quote
doug yowell Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Richard, are you as good on the mandolin? How bout the fiddle? Have you tried any other stringed instruments? Quote

Guest Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 Would there be some way you could turn that skill into something that said, "Thank you Father, for giving Your Son in my place, so that I might play praises to Your name, throughout the ceaseless ages of eternity?". God blesses! I think so... Quote

karl Posted April 3, 2011 Posted April 3, 2011 There has been a lot of fear generated in Christian circles by self-proclaimed music experts who have claimed that certain styles of music are sanctified (especially older styles) while other (generally newer) styles are tools of the devil and cannot be safely enjoyed no matter what lyrics they employ. Interestingly, contemporary Christian music styles once roundly condemned are increasingly to be found in Christian churches and media. I doubt that there will ever be general acceptance of hard rock, but soft rock is definitely finding greater acceptance. We need to remember that we are commissioned to impart the good news of salvation and the concomitant warning of impending judgment, and whatever vehicles best carry those messages to the hearers are the ones we should use. Administrators Gail Posted April 3, 2011 Administrators Posted April 3, 2011 I have really been impressed with rock frontmen who could also do a fine ballad or rendition of an old hymn or otherwise favourite. Gospel music sung by Elvis and Johnny Cash are big sellers in our store even now. Norman Byers, N.D. Posted April 4, 2011 Posted April 4, 2011 That was fantastic Norman!!! Thanks for posting it here. That's a better kind of music. I do have one acoustic guitar, but don't play it very often. Now I am inspired to learn a spiritual song, but the only problem is, I don't sing. That was great. Do you have any more? Hey Richard, I have one more that I recorded today. I'm uploading it now and it should be ready soon. I was gonna wait till I got it down better but decided to post it anyway. It's an answer your "I don't sing" statement :-) Quote The unconditional pardon of sin never has been, and never will be. PP 522
