Moderators Bravus Posted March 31, 2011 Moderators Posted March 31, 2011 Petrucci's a good player, but I don't know why, I just find Dream Theater's music a bit... dull. Just a personal taste judgment and I have lots of friends who enjoy them. It's not the prog thing - I love Jethro Tull, and adore Kansas (Kerry Livgren has gone on to do some more overtly Christian stuff that is very good too). Not sure - just one of the imponderables of taste. Al di Meola is another player I enjoy, either solo or in Return to Forever. Quote Truth is important

But the very GOOD thing in the DVD is watching Livgren play "Carry on Wayward Son". Kevin Max provides some good vocals for it. John Elefante from Kansas has also done some solo work in the Christian realm but we have never sold much of it. The dear saints don't know very much about Kansas, I'm afraid. Administrators Gail Posted March 31, 2011 Administrators Posted March 31, 2011 I fixed it. Nice! Trivial tidbit: Bravus, did you know that Kerry Livgren had a major stroke in 2009? Dr. Rich Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 It's about time Richard, that you did your warmup for utube--I just listened to it twice. Now lets get you do some actual written stuff--I know you have written some so lets get with it. You are up there with some of the best. I do enjoy good guitar, all kinds! And no, it isn't noise if you have played it before and know how hard it is to do all of the chords and the 'tricks' that Richard showed in the video. Lets see now, I bet we could find people one this blog who are talented and could put together a 'band'. We could law down a track and then have others to fill in with their own tracks. While I also play guitar, it is or was usually for campfire songs and pathfinders--Peter, Paul and Mary style. But--'Hotel California' was and is up there on my list of favorites. Come on someone--lets see who can lay down the first track? Quote

MariaS Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 The good Lord has room for talented guitarists such as you, Richard! I think I am in the mood now to listen to a bit of Dream Theater with John Petrucci... Hi Tom, I agree with you and soon Richard will start to play on some heavenly music. Music ministry is one of the friendliest approach to spreading the gospel. MariaS Posted April 1, 2011 Posted April 1, 2011 So when I was warming up to play yesterday, I turned on the camera and tried to knock some of the rust off. Now lets get you do some actual written stuff--I know you have written some so lets get with it. You're funny Rich. I wrote some songs about 10 years ago and recorded them in my little home studio. I was burned out on playing in bands, and wanted to do something by myself. With studio recording you can play all the parts. Rhythm, lead, bass, drums, etc. I did the drums with a RhythmTrak 234 drum machine, which you can either play manually, or program it. Maybe I will post a couple of tunes on youtube, if I can figure out how to post audio with just a picture, like I've seen some do. Since I have your e-mail address, I could just send you a couple of them in mp3 format. Quote

Does that mean you won't do any 'picking' anymore Richard? That would leave for a dull Club Adventist. We need your entertainment here. :) Quote May we be one so that the world may be won. Guest Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 That was fantastic Norman!!! Thanks for posting it here. That's a better kind of music. I do have one acoustic guitar, but don't play it very often. Now I am inspired to learn a spiritual song, but the only problem is, I don't sing. That was great. Do you have any more? Quote
Members phkrause Posted April 2, 2011 Members Posted April 2, 2011 I didn't hear Richard playing any of those tunes Woody. So your test isn't very accurate. LOL Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
Norman Byers, N.D. Posted April 2, 2011 Posted April 2, 2011 Hi Richard, get that acoustic out and play it! It's relaxing, enjoyable and rewarding. I just learned that song this week and found the chords online. I am not much of a singer either, but as long as your can keep the tune that will sound good. You play the music and Woody can do all the vocals. Quote
