Lysimachus Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 What you're really doing Gibs is starting from 26-27 A.D., and making 26-27 as "year 1". That's your downfall in your math. It's 27 - 28 A.D. that starts "year 1 of the 7 years". Count 7, and the 7th year takes us to 33 - 34 A.D. Refer to my previous post above and see for yourself. Quote ~Lysimachus (Marcos S.) Gibs Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Lys. 27 is the year to start the math, it is always inclusive and is in all prophecies. I could give you lots more to show but you fellows exhaust me and I have sources for the fact of the exact date of Jesus death and the fact the jews keep two passovers that year two days apart and throws people off. But I just don't have the steam to get into it further as I don't think you would see anyway. My only consolation would be that readers who don't respond might catch a gleam of truth in it. On that when winter rolls around and nothing more to do I may make a page at a time and it would amount to several latter addendum pages. People who are fighting you on a subject don't read and Comprehend your work, it always is a bystander that does. I find that on these forums sometimes 2 short paragraphs is too much and many times 2 Bible verses will not be headed. I'm not a prolific writer or explainer and at 80+ I'm slow on the keyboard and my work has always been outdoors and frost bite fingers more than once and Arthur has his thing in em too. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs, to moment that The Savior started in 27 AD counts as the year 0. At that 1st day that He began to preach He has preached for 0 years. In the next year, 28 AD He would have preached for ONE year, not on the 27th year!. Can you grasp that? jasd Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 QR frame: And then..., working from this end of the suppositions -- we have the indication of Josephus who gives the date for St John the Baptist's execution as the year AD 34, which would mean that Jesus Christ's crucifixion could not have occurred earlier than AD 35-36 -- the last year of Pilate's governorship. So, how credible is Josephus? Then again, working from Luke 3:1,2 -- Jesus Christ seems to have begun His ministry in approx AD 25-26, which would have Him (should St John be correct as to the length of Jesus Christ's ministry) crucified ca AD 28-29? Then again, the years for Jesus Christ's crucifixion have been fixed also at ADs 28, 29, and 30, etc. So, what we have, aside from a questionable or ersatz terminus a quo is a bit of the "Actually, it may be that we don't know..." RE these seven year cycles: Jonathan Cahn reads the seven-year Shemitah cycles of 2001 and 2008 as Gd's warnings to America, -- with the next occurring September 30, 2015 -- when America ends. Ouch! Pickle Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Gibs, The fall of 457 BC marked the end of a sabbatical year, and thus the fall of 457 BC marked the beginning of the 1st year of a sabbatical cycle. Similarly, the fall of 27 AD marked the end of a sabbatical year, and thus the fall of 27 AD marked the beginning of the 1st year of a sabbatical cycle. Therefore, the fall of 34 AD marked the end of a sabbatical year, and the spring of 31 AD marked the precise middle of a sabbatical cycle. Is there anything about the above that you question? Guest DennisKean Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Marcos, Wait a minute. The concept of counting can be very confusing for many. What is interesting is that Gibs sees 1994 AD as a Jubilee year and he is mathematically correct about that one. From the 34AD Jubilee to the 1994 AD Jubilee there are exactly 40 Jubilees. And from 1437 BC to 34 AD there are exactly 30 Jubilees. When you add those you get 30 + 40 = 70 Jubilees. In prophetic format when a year is mentioned it implies a whole Jubilee. Just like a day for a year, a year for a Jubilee is used as a parabolic format for long time periods. It's too bad that not too many people recognize that. 1798 AD was a Jubilee year. So was 457 BC and 70 weeks are exactly 10 Jubilees. EGW received her most important vision on the Jubilee year, 1847 AD. And she mentions the Jubilee in her discussion of the vision. I know that this will not place me in your favor, but there is no question that Jubilees are used as pacers in prophetic time. I will gladly show you Jubilees in prophecy if you wish. But it is not part of the SDA traditional thinking. So, you may never have seen it that way before. And no, we don't have a license to freely think about that, so this may be outside of the comfort zone. But I suggest some courage. Jubilees were not just a misfired concept of God, which we can just cast into the "FLUKE" category. And the sooner you discover its meaning he sooner you will have a new tool in your tool drawer for studying prophecies beyond what our SDA tradition allows. Regards, Dennis Quote

Gibs, Glenn Moore at that link maintains that the crucifixion occurred in the spring of 31 AD, so I am unsure what on that page you want me to respond to. As far as when the sabbatical years were, the two possibilities that have been bantered back and forth since at least the 1800's is whether 33/34 was a sabbatical year, or whether 34/35 was a sabbatical year. I haven't heard of anyone promoting the idea that it was instead 32/33, which I'm guessing is what you are advocating. See my paper at http://www.pickle-publishing.com/papers/sabbatical-years.htm on when the sabbatical years were. It looks to me like Glenn Moore agrees with me, since his chart at http://www.itsaboutthattime.net/sabbatical_chart.htm identifies the same years as I do as being sabbatical years. Gibs Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Pickle, The Jubilee calendar makes AD 33 to be the Sabbatical year, AD 34 then the Jubilee. It is shown by moores calendar it is not off a yr. because it hits it too many times on known Jubilees. The Book Jubilees covers something like the first 49 Jubilees and really helps to establish that it is truly in sync with God's time clock of years. The year in times past men didn't start it where God does at the spring equinox and it runs in my mind the Jews had it beginning in the fall. Then on top of that the Jews, many of them reckoned the beginning of a moonth by the Babylonian method of when they can see the first sliver in Jerusalem. The year of Christ's crucifiction they were two days late I believe for passover. That year there were two passovers 2 days apart. Our term month comes from moon reckoning and was only for reckoning the feast days. The moons divisions come up short of a solar year by something like 12 days. Enoch made 12 divisions in the year and exactly like our Gregorion calendar except for the 28or 29 day division, he placed it last and at it's end the spring equinox. Enoch says the moon cycles go in and out of the 12 divisions of the year and loses 12 days. He also had exactly the same number of 31 and 30 day divisions and added a day to his last one every fourth year as we do. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. I have nothing against Jubilee years. Even Dr. William Shea talks a lot about them and their importance. My only concern is how much we are to pay attention to them after 1844, since Ellen White talks about how the verse "that there should be time no longer" in Rev. 10:6 applies to after 1844. So while the Jubilee dates can still be counted, should we put too much reliance upon them after 1844? I'm open about this, no worries, but I'm also cautious. Even I am open to the possibility of a dual application to the time elements in Daniel 12 as being literal in the future, but I'm not dogmatic about it. I stand firmly by the historicist interpretations of these time periods first and foremost. Quote ~Lysimachus (Marcos S.) Guest DennisKean Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Marcos, I am much relieved that you are open about this. Not that I want to change your mind, I just have so much in common with you. Concerning parallel meanings of one prophecy, on that I took a strong position decades ago. God does not play double-entendue, in my perception of things. It is hard enough to decode or convey one thread, to imagine multiple threads running wild... no way. And when that Pandora box opens up then the sky is the limit. You get all sorts crustaceans improvising on the theme. But I stand firm that God is not like Nostradamus, a man who did not even believe in his own predictions. His predictions are open to multiple threads. They are both endemic and pandemic. What a mess. Furthermore, my experience is that prophecies are amazingly linear, pacing through linear time and I hope I get a chance to discuss and test that with your participation. A very good one to show this is Revelation 13, which most people think is discombobulated. I would like to show that it is not and that it's linear perspective presents a far better interpretation than our traditional perspective. Mainly, I hope that I survive the reactions that it will cause on the forum with traditionalists. Let me put on my body armor! Cheers, Dennis Quote
Johnnboy Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 In the Bible one will find that God only specified one method to designate the beginning of the year—He spoke these directions to Moses, as they were preparing to leave Egypt with the celebration of the Passover. “This month [shall be] unto you the beginning of months: it [shall be] the first month of the year to you.” Exodus 12:2. “The time of the Passover corresponded to the close of March or the beginning of April,...” Desire of Age, 76 This month always corresponded to the end of March or the beginning of April, which would be the new moon on or AFTER the spring equinox. This is demonstrated by the Millerite calculations placing the Day of Atonement of the seventh month on October 22, 1844, (as endorsed by EGW) whereas, the Hillel II calendar, the perpetual Hebrew calendar, places the first month beginning on the new moon NEAREST the spring equinox, resulting in the Day of Atonement being on September 23, 1844. God's prophetic ceremonies in the sanctuary system began with the first month and ended in the seventh month, although that year continued until the new moon after the next spring equinox. So autumn 457 B.C.E. when the decree of Artaxerxes went “forth” would have been in the middle of the first year in the second week of years, near the end of the ceremonial cycle of the sacred year, but the year would have ended in the spring of 458 B.C.E.. On the Day of Atonement in 27 C.E., the 10th day of the seventh month of the sacred year, Jesus began His public ministry by announcing the Jubilee by reading the Jubilee prophecy of Isaiah 61:1, 2, and declaring, “This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears.” This year had begun on the first new moon after the spring equinox in 27 C.E. and ended on the new moon after the next spring equinox in 28 C.E. Johnnboy Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Also of interest to everyone regarding this topic of the Jubilee is the article printed in the ADVENTIST REVIEW of January 5, 1984, in which the author heralds the Pope's Jubilee year of 1984, "Year of the Lord's Favor--Let the trumpet sound; bells ring out for this new year---a year of jubilee. Quoting: "As Jesus told of the happy new year that all might enjoy, there seems little doubt that His congregation would have recognized the importance of that particular Sabbath. A number of commentators agree that it must have been a great Sabbath. In that year the Day of Atonement probably matched the seventh-day Sabbath. The passage He read from Isaiah had double significance. First it called attention to the Day of Atonement, then to the year of jubilee that always began on the Day of Atonement.” "Luke tells us that before He came to Nazareth Jesus taught in their synagogues (verse 15). Many Jewish communities throughout Galilee heard Him speak." The article continues with a quotation taken from I. Howard Marshall, The Gospel of Luke, p. 184, "Behind Jesus' quotation lay the historical fact of a jubilee year in which He returned to His home. It can be calculated that A.D. 26-27 was a jubilee year. Thus Jesus' citation took account of the actual jubilee year in which His ministry began,..." The article continues, "Though Dr. Marshall, a noted conservative scholar, does not endorse this interpretation completely because of problems with chronology, there can be no doubt that Jesus had the jubilee year clearly in mind as He quoted Isaiah 61:1, 2....When God gave the jubilee year to ancient Israel, He had the poor especially in mind." Adventist Review, January 5, 1984. Actually, spring 26 C.E. to spring 27 C.E. was the seventh Sabbatic year, and spring 27 C.E. to spring 28 C.E. was the year of Jubilee. In the autumn, in the seventh month of the sacred year, in 27 C.E. on the Sabbath Day of Atonement, Jesus read the Jubilee prophecy, Isaiah 61:1, 2, and declared, "This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears." Pope John Paul ended his 1984 Jubilee year on Easter Sunday, April 22, 1984. This day was exactly 1260 days before God's historical Biblical Jubilee of Sabbath, October 3, 1987, the Day of Atonement of the Jubilee year. Quote

Gibs, I think one weakness in your argument is that you stop short of documenting what you are saying, and just make unsupported assertions. For example, I provided you with the link http://www.itsaboutthattime.net/sabbatical_chart.htm where Moore correctly asserts that 33/34 AD was a sabbatical year. Yet you appear to be claiming that 32/33 was a sabbatical year instead according to Moore, without any explanation whatsoever. As another example, at the link I believe you gave me, http://www.itsaboutthattime.net/Calendar_Synopsis.htm, Moore states, "3 1/2 years later, he was crucified (on a Wednesday in the spring of 31 CE) which is exactly in the midst of the week, and the midst of the seventh Sabbatical week leading up to the year of Jubilee." Yet without explanation you appear to assert that Moore instead said something else. Quote Pickle Pickle Publishing
Pickle Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Johnnboy, You appear to be suggesting that sabbatical years began in the spring. Consider this problem with that idea. During a sabbatical year, Israelites were forbidden to plant and reap (other than whatever grew of itself). Thus every 7 years they would have only 6 harvests. When a jubilee came around, they would have only 5 harvests in 7 years. Grain was planted in the fall after the Feast of Tabernacles, and reaped in the spring after the beginning of the religious year. If a sabbatical year began in the spring, then the faithful Israelite could neither reap the grain planted the previous fall, nor plant grain that next fall to be reaped the following spring. Thus, if sabbatical years began in the spring, there would only be 5 harvests every 7 years, and 4 harvests every 7 years when a jubilee came round. For this reason, sabbatical years must have begun in the fall after the completion of the entire agricultural year, which is what the Jews believe to have been the case. As far as Jesus' reading Isaiah at Nazareth goes, if He read that after He had returned from His Judean ministry, then consider that Jn. 4:35 says that he returned to Galilee 4 months before harvest. Would that not roughly be December or January, after the fall of 28 AD? If so, how do we still tie that reading to an actual jubilee year if the jubilee year ended in the spring of 28 AD? (FLB, 208) "That which led to this movement was the discovery that the decree of Artaxerxes for the restoration of Jerusalem, which formed the starting point for the period of the 2300 days, went into effect in the autumn of the year 457 B.C., and not at the beginning of the year, as had been formerly believed. Reckoning from the autumn of 457, the 2300 years terminate in the autumn of 1844." (GC, 398) Do we have to learn, yet another painful lesson, that in the end, the prophet of the Lord is going to be found to be right? I have an idea. Let's save ourselves the embarrassment, and start to admit, that although we may not be experts on the math, and that there may be some things we don't fully understand, that if we keep digging, once again, she's probably going to be proven to be right in the end. Gibs Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Well since God don't change the thing gone out from His mouth I will stick to the spring equinox as the beginning of the year. Yes the Jews changed it but God didn't, the spring equinox still comes around once a year on time and don't happen in the fall. Originally that was the first month Nisan, Abib of the year and still is, man can't change it and God isn't going to. There is more to the story but it would only confuse further so I will leave it lay. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Gibs Posted May 19, 2012 Posted May 19, 2012 Pickle, The sabbicals, land sabbaths are determined by the Jubilee calendar. It was instituted by God long before earth and was our seventh day Sabbath and earth was put in sync with it. The first year of Adam was a Jubilee and the seventh yr. was a land Sabbath. It is a never ending cycling of 7x7x7x7x7 and will continue into eternity and into the earth made new will fall in sync we can be sure. The first seventh solar day was also a Sabbath in sync in Heaven. Enoch made that clear. We have a God of perfect order. 1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. Quote A Freeman In Jesus Christ
