JoeMo Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 I've made some hasty, knee-jerk posts that I have wanted to delete; but couldn't figure out how. How do you delete a post? Quote

BobRyan Posted March 8, 2013 Author Posted March 8, 2013 I think we need to make a distinction between what God condemned in scripture with what EGW claims God condemned in the SoP. When a Christian writes their own opinion it does not have the authority of "Holy men of old moved by the Holy Spirit - spoke from GOD" 2 Peter 1:20-21 But when someone is moved by the Spirit of God as in the real Numbers 12:4-7 and 1Cor 12 case of the gift of prophecy and "speaks from God" as in the real James 2 "HE who said... ALSO Said..." - then it is not the person we are tossing out the window - it is the word of God Himself - according to "the Bible". Thus as God said to Samuel " it is not you they are rejecting - it is ME they are rejecting". Give me the Bible AND the Words IN the Bible. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
JoeMo Posted March 8, 2013 Posted March 8, 2013 Once again, Bob; Thanks for the subtle condemnation. I'm sure glad your not God. I'd be in BIG trouble! Quote

I don't know how long "too long" is, but the delete button is probably available as long as the edit button is. I would guess the time span is measured in minutes rather than hours. After some time, and others posting behind you, the "Delete Post" button will still be there, but when you click on it, it will tell you that you may no longer delete this post. But you can still edit. Quote

I I don't quite understand why as both actions allow a person to substantially change what they said. I can even edit a post and in so doing delete it entirely by replacing it with something as simple as a two word "deleted post" message. I've been on forums where the edit button was only available for maybe 5 or 10 minutes, at most. Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville

Or you can send me a PM and I can delete/edit the post. It would be helpful in either case to give a reason for having us delete a post. It may be that a less drastic measure could fix a problem post. That said, if there have been any replies to the post you want to delete, they will be deleted along with it. The problem there is that the subsequent posts, may be doing more that replying to what you wanted to delete, such as another point from someone else. As time passes this can get complicated to edit. On the vast majority of sites I've been on both deleting and editing posts have been strictly held to very short times. There was very good reasoning behind that rule too as too many people abused the edit and delete functions in an effort to make others look bad. In some sites it was impossible to edit or delete a post after it had been replied to, no matter how short the interval between the posting time and the reply time. I've always thought that was a very good rule. Quote Liberty cannot be established without morality, nor morality without faith.Alexis de Tocqueville

BobRyan Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 And here I thought this thread died a nice, quiet death...this thread has more lives than a cat! Something about inspired writings from the prophets of God that just won't die. Don't you just find that amazing? Or... annoying?? (I guess it depends on the person). Don't you just "wish" doctrine and practice were all a matter of "personal preference" and nothing more? I know that the sunday keeping churches do. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
BobRyan Posted September 21, 2013 Author Posted September 21, 2013 Yes - that is what happens when we listen to the prophets that Christ has sent to us. Funny how that works out that way. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." COL 316.
CoAspen Posted September 21, 2013 Posted September 21, 2013 The words from God, yes, human interpretation, that's another story! Some often get them confused. Quote

I know that the sunday keeping churches do. in Christ, Bob You're picking the wrong fight here. I don't find it annoying that testimony from God's inspired prophets doesn't die. What I find annoying are those who cherry pick a prophet's testimony to slam others who don't believe the same way they do, ignoring the context of her writing. What I find annoying is the sanctimonious attitude taken with regard to the use of Ellen G. White, whose usage of her works is outside the prophetic testimony of how her works should be used - thus identifying themselves as the very ones Ellen White declares to be in need of reproval, and are most in danger of falling into the trap seen in 2 Peter 3:15-16.
