LoneRanger Posted February 19, 2013 Posted February 19, 2013 The question remains - did you find those verses and if so - did you accept the teaching that you found there? How do I answer that? Is this a "Yes" or "No" question? The first question is easy--of course I found those verses. And if I hadn't found them countless people just like yourself have pointed them out to me. The second question, however, is a little more difficult. "Did I accept the teaching" Does this mean "Did I accept the teaching as BobRyan understands it." or "Did I accept the teaching as Lone Ranger understands it." Well, I don't know. What is YOUR understanding of the teaching? I know what mine is. However, this now leads to HOW to APPLY the UNDERSTANDING. Does this apply to EGW? Does BobRyan's understanding or LoneRanger's understanding apply to EGW? If I say YES, one automatically thinks that I think like they do. If I say NO I'm automatically a heretic. P.S. Stan, can we get a :shoot yourself in the head: smilie (JUST KIDDIN ) Quote

Interesting that you have yet to bring yourself to discuss the details - the points that those two texts raise. Because so far - your reject-whatever-crosses-my-preferences model has not been shown to fit with what the Bible actually says on the topic of prophets. And that just illustrates the point - that some of those who use the red herring "just give me the Bible" seldom show an interest in what the Bible actually says on the topic at hand. Another point is also being illustrated - and that is that on this specific subject of football and Adventism - the most common way people have found to get around the warning is to reject fundamental principles of the Bible teaching on the subject of prophecy, prophets and how all of that works. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin." Quote: For these are rebellious people, deceitful children, children unwilling to listen to the Lord’s instruction.(Isaiah 30:9) At least you're using scripture to supposedly back your points here. For Isaiah 30_8-14 to be appropriate, the reader must believe that EGW held the OT office of propphet back in the days where procphecy was concentrated in one (or very few) individuals). The gift of NT prophecy, according to Paul,is a distributed gift for the whole church. The SDA Church didn't even consider EGW a prophet for many years. Like others on this thread and I have stated before, even though we think EGW had a gift of prophecy, we don't think she was 100% infallible on some things. You have even said whe wasn't 100% infallible. I use the Bible as a measure of her (or any other alleged prophet's) accuracy. What do you use? Quote

Members phkrause Posted February 20, 2013 Members Posted February 20, 2013 Good one Woody, problem is, if we didn't read her writings, we'd never know that. What??Was EGW the ONLY person to advocate reading the Bible?? Perhaps I am misunderstanding this. Is this thread and your post, not about what EGW had to say? So all I'm saying is that to find that she actually said that, we would've had to read her writings? Correct? Now let me ask a question? Was Amos a Prophet? And did he not also claim not to be one? I do believe that we read and preach from the book of Amos! I'm not disagreeing with you about what she said, but if I had not read her writings would never had known what she said. Anyway just a thought. Quote phkrause When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice; But when a wicked man rules, the people groan. Proverbs 29;2
LoneRanger Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Thank you, pkrause, for that clarification. I see now that I had the (fortunately) wrong slant on my interpretation. Couldn't agree with you more. Quote
LoneRanger Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 As has been noted several times in the past - it is a red herring to argue that everything Ellen White said at breakfast is not directly from God - since no one on this board has ever suggested such a thing.I'll take you as spokesman for the forum members regarding this view, and I am relieved to hear that. However, I do know from personal experience that there are those who DO hold to it, so it is out there. Quote

The Bible dose not teach us the idea of redefining "prophet" with each generation - nor do we have it redefined at the cross -as if Jesus died on the cross to redefine how prophecy works. However if you want to make it up - then you have the free will to choose to do so. in Christ, Bob Quote John 8:32 - The Truth will make you free“The righteousness of Christ will not cover one cherished sin."
