BTW - the topic of this thread is FOOTBALL and Adventism - not a debate about EGW.

I have not been the one to suggest that we debate the validity of Ellen White's prophetic ministry - or that someone here test her messages from God and find them to contradict the Bible - thus claiming that she is a false prophet by virtue of the well accepted tests of a prophet we have from scripture. (Still it is instructive that someone would even think to go there in a true slash-and-burn defense of football "at all costs")

And the "thread on football and Adventism" starts with quotes that actually deal with "football" from the messages God gave Ellen White for the Adventist church (hence the title Football and Adventism).

Admittedly we have non-SDAs that reject her prophetic ministry, and we also have a few SDAs that will claim that they too find her writings to contradict their own view of scripture.

I can understand how those groups would not accept a message God gave to one of His prophets - if they first reject that prophet.

But for the rest of us - the 1Thss 5:19-21 and Isaiah 30 text comes into play - calling us to accountability.

I am the author of this thread - and if you will notice - on the first page we deal with the topic of what Ellen White said about this subject - to Adventists.

My posts are on the page-1 topic.

The OP is a video showing the link between football and the worship of the things of this world.

I think we can both agree on that.

And now the public media and the President of the United States are getting into this issue of violence in football.

The players are getting bigger and bigger - and are moving faster and faster as the game matures - the hits today are more violent and frequent between much larger players.

How is it so many Adventists are the last ones to wake up on this issue - given the fact that Ellen White told us about the problem a long time ago?

The quarterback Michael Vick of course staged inhumane dog fights; the wide receiver Plaxico Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg with a gun he’d toted illegally into a nightclub; the wide receiver Dez Bryant was accused of assaulting his own mother.

How all of this misfortune and all of these misdeeds do and don’t relate to one another isn’t clear. But to be an N.F.L. fan these days is to feel morally conflicted, even morally compromised, because you’re supporting something that corrodes too many lives.

The Chiefs quarterback Brady Quinn said on Sunday that Belcher’s bloody end left him wondering “what I could have done differently.” That’s a question that everyone in the N.F.L. should mull.

And we fans must demand it. On Monday morning, what didn’t feel right wasn’t just my neck, but also my conscience.

Does anyone realize how many people are killed by cars every year, yes cars!! Maybe they should be verboten for christians also. I believe we could make a case for most anything to be of the devil...if we choose! One doesn't need EGW to figure out all evils in life or maybe it is okay if she or the Bible doesn't mention it!!

I cracked my skull last May 1st on a fire extinguisher.

Once got a concussion on a construction site - working for and Adventist no less.

Got another concussion getting out of bed one morning (don't ask)

There have been 5 or 6 other ones and only one from football. (none from hockey I might add)

The reasons for Ellen White's caution - was that the players were not wearing helmets . That has been solved. They are now protected like never before. And the rules have been changed to protect the vulnerable.

That's pretty funny - you did not read that in the actual text so you just make it up?

Thanks - I think we all need a light hearted comment now and then.

Mean while - orthopedic surgeons and the players themselves are speaking to a very different reality. One that is perfectly in sync with the problem Ellen White stated even though in her comments she does not mention sports injuries at all.

I am all for free will. And some will choose to ignore the messages that come from God's prophets. That is fine if that is how they want to live their lives.

But for the rest of us ...

We can go to actual "Scripture" in places such as 1Thess 5:19-20 - then Isaiah 30:10-14 where God explains exactly what happens when we choose to quench the Spirit by ignoring messages He sends through His prophets for us.

Those who freely choose to come to the point where they accept those texts - will then have this message from God to one of his prophets to consider.

That's precisely why I don't swallow EGW hook line and sinker. Again - I respect her gift in the prophetic. That doesn't mean that I have to think she's infallible.
