I think they are claiming the free will not to pay attention to details.

And as I said before - I believe God would want each person to be fully convinced in their own mind.

I just prefer to pay attention to details.

The Niners honor the time near when our SDA church was established. THerefore I feel that the 49ers are best suited to Adventism. That's my opinion and I'm stickin' 2 it

What kind of questions are those? I am simply speaking my mind on these things as a means of sharing ideas. I maintain that if I desire to check out something of hers that I question, I have the right to check it in scripture and to question its validity until I can be verify it in scripture. I maintain the right to question it even further if I find scripture that contradicts her writing. I don't like being personally insulted or painted into a corner for simply and honestly communicating my views. Prove me wrong without using circular references and veiled spiritualization of reality. You will not brow-beat me into changing my mind.

thumbsup Excellent Excellent JoeMo. You tell 'em. But my advice is to place that pox where it might be more useful. 'Cause so far - the pox is still erupting.

I don't have a wife. And I'm allergic to penicillin. But thanks for asking.

My question was valid, in trying to clear up your apparent contradiction.

Exactly. Which means he's trying to talk out of both sides of his mouth at the same time. How do you say you "respect her gift in the prophetic" and at the same time claim that she's a false prophet? Which is exactly what she is, if her visions go against the Bible.

JoeMo, no prophet ever claimed to be infallible. As far as I know the only man who does claim to be infallible when he sits on the chair is the pope but there is nothing more fallible than a pope.

The prophets are not infallible but the One who speaks through them is.

As if we needed to be told. :)

Now it is OK if you are a Sunday churcher and mybe even have beer and watch football and all sports or even to get into a hot game of competition.

Hey everything now almost is being made kosher!

Games for competion and money involved is a different thing than having a game for family exercise and fresh air without competition and no score is kept.

Football tackle games is not that kind of family participation. Not fun to have one of the family hurt bad.

There seems to be an eruption of the pox so it is time to treat it rather drasticly....off to the hospital!!!!!

Just my 2 cents worth. I went to a school that had only intramural sports including football although it was only flag. My friends and I would play the typical backyard football games where it was full contact. I wanted to be able to go to s school where regular football was played so badly because I wanted to play in college and hopefully the nfl. One of the faculty at the school I attended had played college ball at a big name college and he told me if I could go to a regular school where scouts came to check out talent that I would probably be able to get a scholarship to any college I wanted and he thought I might have talent enough to make it big time. In my experience just in both the intramural and pick up games there is nothing there for a christian. The smack talk is there, the foul language is there. You are not there to be friends, you are there to beat then down physically and mentally. If I could take a good player out of the game by injuring him that was great. If you can't run with the big boys lay on the stretcher. There is nothing in EW writings that could remotely be construed as being in favor of football. The very essence of the sport is violence. Thats who football is and what it does. Coaches don't look for good sports they look for violent aggressive players that like to dish out pain. I'm not here to judge what you watch. God made each of us free moral agents to follow His plan or not to. I just find it very hard to justify something that is based on violence, arrogance and pride. There is nothing in football that would bring me closer to my Savior.

Thy word is a lamp to my feet

Thank you for sharing that.

Another "sign" for the reluctant readers here - that God actually knew what He was talking about when He gave that message about football to one of His prophets.

This thread is proving to be resistant to any and all pox strains. It may well run to 20 pages just on this alone...by the time we are finished here, one enterprising team owner may become inspired to rename his team the "AntiPox"... bwink

What is a pox anyway? Isn't that like a spell or something? Or is it like chicken pox? If it's chicken pox, I've already had it.

Speaking of history --

Quote:

Not until 1931 were statistics regularly kept on football fatalities. Over the years, those numbers would show a pattern of deaths that would return to the numbers (in 1905) that nearly ended football in America before it began .

...

That's the history of football-related brain deaths in numbers, in five-year increments from 1945-1999. Between 1965 and 1969, more than 100 players at all levels died of brain injuries, an average of about 20 per year—about the same number as died in 1905, but from brain injuries alone

http://www.chicagomag.com/Chicago-Magazi...rds-the-Future/

The point being - that in the years after God sent this message to one of his prophets - the game has continued and SDAs are now finding it easier and easier to ignore the message God gave and to select their own preferences when confronted with that information.

But to be fair to most SDAS - their pastors and teachers are even telling them that this warning was ever given.

But in true "love of this world fashion" someone might think to post something like "yes but can't we find a way so that we see all the same hits and contact (and even more so) and yet make the game safer for the players - so that they can just keep on doing it and I can keep on watching the gladiator show without any galdiators ever having to leave the arena? A never ending show even better than Rome's ??"

How sad.

Bob

A pox is one of the several pox virus diseases, the deadliest of which is small pox - of which the saying is usually referring to.

The saying "a pox on ....." is originally a desire to wish a painful, diseased death upon something/someone, back when the pox diseases came and went in epidemic/pandemic waves. Those surviving were scarred and disfigured, much weaker than they were before.

Since the small pox has eliminated from the globe, the saying has become quaint, as no one remembers the horrible experience of the small pox disease.

Ending a discussion on pox with the word "blessings" ... just seems like a contradiction.

I am a bit of a contradiction and paradox, RLH.

Life experience has taught me though, that God's blessings can be found even amidst such nasty stuff as the pox....

Besides, I sign off that way out of habit - wishing to leave blessings with others.
