This is a rather controverted subject among many of us and I found this Quoute from Sister White that I find states the truth of this subject well.

I will not emphasize by bold, color, italics, large font or underling as some are antagonized by that.

Comment if you desire to.

"The Obedience of a God or a Man?--Christ's overcoming and obedience is that of a true human being. In our conclusions, we make many mistakes because of our erroneous views of the human nature of our Lord. When we give to His human nature a power that it is not possible for man to have in his conflicts with Satan, we destroy the completeness of His humanity. His imputed grace and power He gives to all who receive Him by faith. {7BC 929.5}

The obedience of Christ to His Father was the same obedience that is required of man. Man cannot overcome Satan's temptations without divine power to combine with his instrumentality. So with Jesus Christ; He could lay hold of divine power. He came not to our world to give the obedience of a lesser God to a greater, but as a man to obey God's holy law, and in this way He is our example. The Lord Jesus came to our world, not to reveal what a God could do, but what a man could do, through faith in God's power to help in every emergency. Man is, through faith, to be a partaker in the divine nature, and to overcome every temptation wherewith he is beset. {7BC 929.6}

The Lord now demands that every son and daughter of Adam, through faith in Jesus Christ, serve Him in human nature which we now have. The Lord Jesus has bridged the gulf that sin has made. He has connected earth with heaven, and finite man with the infinite God. Jesus, the world's Redeemer, could only keep the commandments of God in the same way that humanity can keep them (MS 1, 1892). {7BC 929.7}

(Ch. 2:14.) Christ Kept the Level of Humanity.--Satan thought that by his temptations he could delude the world's Redeemer to make one bold move in manifesting His divine power. . {7BC 929.8}

It was a difficult task for the Prince of life to carry out the plan which He had undertaken for the salvation of man, in clothing His divinity with humanity. He had received honor in the heavenly courts, and was familiar with absolute power. It was as difficult for Him to keep the level of humanity as for men to rise above the low level of their depraved natures, and be partakers of the divine nature. {7BC 930.1}

Christ was put to the closest test, requiring the strength of all His faculties to resist the inclination when in danger, to use His power to deliver Himself from peril, and triumph over the power of the prince of darkness. Satan showed his knowledge of the weak points of the human heart, and put forth his utmost power to take advantage of the weakness of the humanity which Christ had assumed in order to overcome his temptations on man's account (RH April 1, 1875). {7BC 930.2}

No Particular Adaptation for Obedience.--We need not place the obedience of Christ by itself, as something for which He was particularly adapted, by His particular divine nature, for He stood before God as man's representative and was tempted as man's substitute and surety. If Christ had a special power which it is not the privilege of man to have, Satan would have made capital of this matter. The work of Christ was to take from the claims of Satan his control of man, and He could do this only in the way that He came--a man, tempted as a man, rendering the obedience of a man." (MS 1, 1892). {7BC 930.3}

I pray that you are Blessed by that little study.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

1Jo 4:6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.

The old SDA teachings, yes and it is a must, the new in many circles now, no we cannot.

We had better be of the old school for sure as that is the truth of the matter.

My answer is an absolute "yes!"

I thought EGW made that clear in the post.

Woody,

Perfectly as He designed it too, just requires death of self and no resurrection and allowing Him to be the Master in the soul temple.

Then one is totally free within His will!

Righteousness is obedience to the law. The law demands righteousness, and this the sinner owes to the law; but he is incapable of rendering it. The only way in which he can attain to righteousness is through faith. By faith he can bring to God the merits of Christ, and the Lord places the obedience of His Son to the sinner's account. Christ's righteousness is accepted in place of man's failure, and God receives, pardons, justifies, the repentant, believing soul, treats him as though he were righteous, and loves him as He loves His Son. This is how faith is accounted righteousness; and the pardoned soul goes on from grace to grace, from light to a greater light. He can say with rejoicing, "Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to His mercy He saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; which He shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; that being justified by His grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life" (Titus 3:5-7). {FW 101.1}

You must take hold of the Divine power offered Gerry or it is yes a no go, for of ourselves we can do nothing,

"Will man take hold of divine power, and with determination and perseverance resist Satan, as Christ has given him example in His conflict with the foe in the wilderness of temptation? God cannot save man against his will from the power of Satan's artifices. Man must work with his human power, aided by the divine power of Christ, to resist and to conquer at any cost to himself. In short, man must overcome as Christ overcame. And then, through the victory that it is his privilege to gain by the all-powerful name of Jesus, he may become an heir of God and joint heir with Jesus Christ. This could not be the case if Christ alone did all the overcoming. Man must do his part; he must be victor on his own account, through the strength and grace that Christ gives him. Man must be a co-worker with Christ in the labor of overcoming. {AG 254.2}

This new false gospel that was first in the Sunday churches and now in the SDA church will not win no one salvation.

Only the overcomer will not be hurt of the second death, Jesus says so,

Re 2:11 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death.

Do we have an ear?

Jude 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,

If we commit the keeping of our souls to God in the exercise of living faith, His promises will not fail us; for they have no limit but our faith. "All things are possible to him that believeth." We may make or mar our own happiness. Many pet and excuse the defects in their characters; but these must all be remedied. Every deviation from the right is sin, and sin must be put away. We can not afford to walk carelessly before our brethren or before the world. {ST, November 14, 1906 par. 1}

Here is a strong one to consider,

Is not the story of the fall repeated by thousands of lips today, and even from the pulpit do we not hear the words of the tempter, "Thou shalt not surely die"? Is not the law of God represented as a yoke of bondage which men are free to violate as they choose? Satan insinuated to Adam and Eve that they might reach a higher, happier state by violation of the divine command, and today the same falsehood is spread through the world, even by those who claim to be sanctified. Do not these who claim sanctification while violating the commands of God, become a false and fatal sign to the world? Do they not say to the sinner, "It shall be well with thee"? The Lord has defined sin as the transgression of his law, but they say they are saved in sin, and thus make Christ the minister of sin.

These professed Christians are doing the very work that Satan did in Paradise, they are leading souls astray by precept and example. They say to the sinner, to the transgressor, It shall be well with thee; you will rise to a higher, holier state by violating the law of God. The lesson that is heard throughout the land is, "Disobey and live." But how different is this teaching from the lessons of Christ. He declared: "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets; I am not come to destroy, but to fulfill. For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled. Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven; but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven." {ST, April 28, 1890 par. 5}

If Christ is in you, where is the problem, He is greater than Satan and all his angels.

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

Read this one Gerry,

"They maintain that it is of no consequence what men believe, so long as their works are good. Such ones are wrong; faith must unite with their works. They should advance with the light that is given them. If God brings them in connection with his servants who have received new truth, substantiated by the Word of God, they should accept it with joy. Truth is onward. Truth is upward. On the other hand, those who claim that their faith alone will save them, are trusting to a rope of sand; for faith is strengthened and made perfect by works only.

{3SP 331.1}

"There will be some terrible falls by those who think they stand firm because they have the truth; but they have it not as it is in Jesus. A moment's carelessness may plunge a soul into irretrievable ruin. One sin leads to the second, and the second prepares the way for a third and so on. We must as faithful messengers of God, plead with Him constantly to be kept by His power. If we swerve a single inch from duty we are in danger of following on in a course of sin that ends in perdition. There is hope for every one of us, but only in one way by fastening ourselves to Christ, and exerting every energy to attain to the perfection of His character. This goody goody religion that makes light of sin and that is forever dwelling upon the love of God to the sinner, encourages the sinner to believe that God will save him while he continues in sin and he knows it to be sin. This is the way that many are doing who profess to believe present truth. The truth is kept apart from their life, and that is the reason it has no more power to convict and convert the soul. There must be a straining of every nerve and spirit and muscle to leave the world, its customs, its practices, and its fashions. . . . {6MR 12.2}

Will those who claim to be children of the Most High elevate the standard, not for a day, not simply while assembled in your meeting, but as long as time shall last? Will they not be on the Lord's side and serve him with full purpose of heart? . . . If you put away sin and exercise living faith, the riches of heaven's blessing will be yours.--Letter 53, 1887, pp. 1, 2, 6, 9, 10, 12.

Goody, Goody religion is what is being pushed almost universal now!

So, what saves? What you can do through Christ working in you? Or what Christ has ALREADY done for you?

Posted

Gerry, it isn't once saved always saved.

For sure when we truly repent He forgives and covers those sins with his merits.

Then He says go sin no more! He don't cover any for sin in advance, He says follow me and sin no more!

The ritual of sinning and repenting must come to an end and too after a bit He is going to see one has no intention of putting away sinning.

Joh 14:15 If ye love me, keep my commandments.

Joh 15:10 If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love; even as I have kept my Father's commandments, and abide in his love.

One proves he don't have that love for Him and lacks faith to know and take hold of the power of His indwelling to overcome your pet sins.

People talk faith and keep on sinning and prove they don't have the saving faith!

There is genuine faith and there is presumption.

"Those who live to gratify appetite and selfish desire, will lose the favor of God, and will lose the heavenly reward. They testify to the world that they have not genuine faith, and when they seek to impart to others a knowledge of present truth, the world will regard their words as sounding brass and a tinkling cymbal. Let everyone show his faith by his works. "Faith without works is dead," "being alone." "Wherefore show ye to them and before the churches, the proof of your love, and of our boasting in your behalf."--R. & H., Aug. 21, 1894. {CS 29.2}

With the greatest one in you why should you fail?

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

Did I say anything about being saved once and for all?

BTW, are you saying that if a sailor who has just been baptized, stubs his toe and utters some unmentionable words, is lost again?

Gerry, it is not my call on that, God only can judge.

Now not in so many words did you say once saved always saved but read here your post carefully,

You go on as if as soon as pardoned at repentance then it's a free ride and really this is when Satan gets on your tail.

Remember Jesus forgave of all repented of but Satan sees that you are weak and if Christ for a moment is not the master in the soul temple he has you into sinning again.

No it is a battle royal with the arch deceiver and Christ in you is the only hope a man has of overcoming him.

We must take hold of faith that He in you is able to keep you from falling.

So when you fall back you must know you failed of faith and trust and allowing Him to master your being and actions.

When He tells us to "go sin no more" He isn't telling us to do a thing that we cannot do.

I gave it out well in previous posts and hate to go get them and repeat them, but EGW laid it out square and fair in quotes I also poste previous.

How can we fail if the Greatest one is truly dwelling within?

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

As long as anyone believes it is impossible to obey as Christ obeyed, then yes, obedience, for them, is impossible. Only by faith in Jesus is it possible to obey as He promised us we can do when He gives us a new heart, so when faith in God's promises is missing, the result of the promises will be missing as well.

Quote:
Ezekiel 36:25 I will sprinkle you with pure water and you will be clean from all your impurities. I will purify you from all your idols.

26 I will give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will remove the heart of stone from your body and give you a heart of flesh.

27 I will put my Spirit within you; I will take the initiative and you will obey my statutes and carefully observe my regulations. (New English Translation)

What is more real to you? What you see with your physical eyes, or what God has promised to do for us? That's the question. As for me, I choose to believe what has been promised in God's word. That's the way Christ obeyed, and He said, everything I've done you'll be able to do too because I'm going to My Father. ( John 14:12,13 )

Gerry, Brother he did it with our nature to show us and be our example that we too could do the same.

Yes we can be perfect in this sphere of sin and rebellion we are in as He was and it is expected and we have no excuse as the fact is when we are born anew of the Spirit then He dwells within and you are equal to the task as He was.

Where is the faith that you can do all things with Christ which strengtheneth you.

Php 4:13 I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

Take hold of it, He gave you the Way, Himself in you, just keep self crucified or the old man will rise up and down you will fall.

Jesus had to do the same, He had to not let the fallen nature He had taken upon Him rise up and be the master same as us, and allow only the Spirit of His Father to be the Master.

Now the Spirit of Christ in you is the Spirit of the Father and your advantage is the same.

Christ in you is the Father also, Read,

Eph 4:6 One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you alll

Notice now the greatest one in you!

1Jo 4:4 ¶ Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

1Jo 4:5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

Jesus did it my nature? Was I conceived of the Holy Spirit?

"My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus' blood and RIGHTEOUSNESS;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus' name."

"Not the labors of my hands,

Can fulfill the law's demands,

Could my zeal no respite know,

Could my tears forever flow,

All for sin could not atone,

Thou must save and Thou ALONE."

ESV | ýEph 2:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, ý9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

NIV84 | ýRo 3:20 Therefore no one will be declared righteous in his sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. ý21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. ý22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, ý23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, ý24 and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.

By faith I already have the righteousness of Jesus. The question is, why are you still looking for it? It is offered freely.

No Gerry you or I or no man of us was conceived of the Holy Spirit. The high point is that He condescended to take on Himself our fallen nature to come from where we are in our shoes.

He did not do it as God but as us fallen ones, 4,000 after the fall!

Then filled with His Spirit we are enabled to be more than conquerors!

Ro 8:37 Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.

" Christ lived a human life that He might be man's example in all things. He endured temptation even as every human being must endure. He believed God, as we must believe. He learned obedience, even as we are required to learn obedience. And He overcame, as we must overcome. His path lay through manifold temptations; therefore He knows how to succor those who are tempted. {ST, October 17, 1900 par. 13}

"We have not an High Priest which can not be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin." "In all things it behooved Him to be made like unto His brethren, that He might be a merciful and faithful High Priest in things pertaining to God, to make reconciliation for the sins of the people. For in that He Himself hath suffered being tempted, He is able to succor them that are tempted." {ST, October 17, 1900

Heb 2:14 Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;

It all boils down to one's view on the nature of Christ, doesn't it?

Did Christ have a sinful nature?
