Can you show Bible verse/s that equates the "coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" with "coming in judgement on Jerusalem"?

Can you show Bible verse/s that equates the "coming of our Lord Jesus Christ" with "coming in judgement on Jerusalem"?

i did so a few posts ago

Mathew 26:64

64 “You have said so,” Jesus replied. “But I say to all of you: From now on you will see the Son of Man sitting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven.[e]

65 Then the high priest tore his clothes and said, “He has spoken blasphemy! Why do we need any more witnesses? Look, now you have heard the blasphemy. 66 What do you think?”

Jesus uttered these words to the Sanhedrin and high priest which presided over the Temple in Jerusalem. We typically think that the high priest tore his clothes and condemned Jesus for blasphemy because he admitted that He was the Messiah-this would be true if the leaders thought Messiah would be God incarnate, but they did not believe the Messiah would be God, but sent from God. They believed it would be a man. There were two famous false messiahs previous to Jesus and Simon bar Kokhba who lived after Jesus who led a revolt. None claimed to be God. Claiming to be the Messiah would not have condemned Jesus for blaphemy-he would have just been wrong to them like the others. This would (and was) have been used to persuade the Romans to execute Jesus in relation to the other false Messiahs who died trying to revolt against their rule as a conquering king.

What condemned Jesus for blasphemy was calling Himself God, and Jesus offered this on His own initiative-which was a warning. Only God comes in the clouds, this is judgment language from the Old Testament by the prophets. Jesus is saying the same thing as in the olivet discourse to the sanhedrin-when judgment comes on Jerusalem-they will know that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God.

When God delivered David from his enemies psalm 18:9

He parted the heavens and came down;
    dark clouds were under his feet.

This same situation of David is repeated in 2 Sam 22:8-14

The earth trembled and quaked,
    the foundations of the heavens[a] shook;
    they trembled because he was angry.
Smoke rose from his nostrils;
    consuming fire came from his mouth,
    burning coals blazed out of it.
10 He parted the heavens and came down;
    dark clouds were under his feet.
11 He mounted the cherubim and flew;

    he soared[b] on the wings of the wind.
12 He made darkness his canopy around him—
    the dark[c] rain clouds of the sky.
13 Out of the brightness of his presence
    bolts of lightning blazed forth.
14 The Lord thundered from heaven;
    the voice of the Most High resounded.

Notice the commotions of the heaven and earth, and God came on the clouds in judgement on Davids enemies? Did David or his enemies see God coming in clouds and the earth shake or the heavens tremble? No. What they did see is their destruction orchestrated by God.

Psalm 97:2

Clouds and darkness are round about him: righteousness and judgment are the habitation of his throne.

Jeremiah 4:13

Look! He advances like the clouds,
    his chariots come like a whirlwind,
his horses are swifter than eagles.
    Woe to us! We are ruined!

-This was judgement on Judah

Sorry, this is all the time I have left, but this is a small sample

Sorry to say, but all I see are cut-and-attach verses, tailor-style. You were at one time speaking about context which you seemed to have forgotten to apply to 2 Thes 2.

2 Thessalonians 2:8   And then shall that Wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of his mouth, and shall destroy with the brightness of his coming

If the "coming" mentioned is not the Second Advent, then what is the "coming" being referred to?

if this coming was the second coming then Pauls opening statement would not make sense

Concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to him, we ask you, brothers and sisters, not to become easily unsettled or alarmed by the teaching allegedly from us—whether by a prophecy or by word of mouth or by letter—asserting that the day of the Lord has already come.

If this was the second coming then they would not be making these claims, Paul could have easily corrected them that they would not be discussing the second coming if this was actually about the second coming. The day of the Lord was the destruction of Jersusalem. That is the reference to the man of lawlessness being set up iun the temple-historical context would have been caligula who made a statue to be set up in the temple and would have done it if he had not died.

Paul was telling those told of the claim that the Second Advent has occurred that it has not. As simple as that.

If this was not the Second Coming then what was Paul saying in v8?

I have a question for Stewart.

You're the history buff.  Can you tell me, what exactly was the "covenant" that he (?) would "confirm" with "many" for "one week" ? (Dan. 9:27).   Was it the Sinai Covenant?  Was it the "New Covenant" ?

SDAs say that Christ confirmed the covenant, with Israel (the Jews) from the start of His ministry at His baptism, until 34 AD when the gospel went to the Gentiles. - a period of 7 years.

But Jesus commanded that the Gospel go to "all nations" at His last address on the Mt. of Olives 10 days before Pentecost.  So THAT command seems to have taken effect at Pentecost when the Holy Spirit was poured out, not 3.5 years later.    Now it seems to be true, that the disciples needed some extra encouragement before they began to include converted Gentiles in their number, but that doesn't mean they weren't supposed to begin the "all nations" ministry before then.

NAU  Daniel 9:24

"Seventy weeks have been decreed for your people and your holy city,

Are Daniel's "people" only the Jews?   I guess Christians don't have a "holy city" - not on this earth.

to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

I can see that Jesus fulflled prophecy.  I can see that His death made "atonement" for iniquity.  But I don't see that His death, made an "end to sin", or brought in "everlasting righteousness" EXCEPT that it guaranteed that those things would come - in future.  As for anointing the "most holy" - that seems to be a reference to the Day of Atonement.  THAT is WHEN the Most Holy Place was anointed with blood, thus bring atonement for all of the congregation (Daniel's people).  I can see that it could refer to Jesus ascending to the MHP of Heaven (the true tabernacle) to present His blood before the Father.  He HAS entered "the presence behind the veil" (Hebrews).

25 "So you are to know and discern that from the issuing of a decree to restore and rebuild Jerusalem until Messiah the Prince there will be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;

Seems it would be 69 "weeks" before Messiah Prince would appear.  That seems to point to the beginning of Christ's ministry - 3.5 years before His death.

it [Jerusalem] will be built again, with plaza and moat, even in times of distress.

26 "Then after the sixty-two weeks the Messiah will be cut off and have nothing,

"After the sixty-two weeks"  (meaning after week 69)  or is it just at the END of week 69, or is it in the middle of week 70  ????

and the people of the prince who is to come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.

Numbers 24:19 actually says, "Out of Jacob One shall have dominion, and destroy the remains of the city."  So this has Messiah destroying the City.

And its end will come with a flood; even to the end there will be war; desolations are determined.

27 "And he [ Jesus or "the prince who is to come?]  will make a firm covenant with the many for one week,

From what I'm reading, the "he" in verse 27 could be Christ, OR "the prince" who destroys the city and the Temple.

but in the middle of the week he will put a stop to sacrifice and grain offering;

The "he" who makes "a firm covenant with many" is the SAME "he" who puts a stop to sacrifices in the middle of the covenant "week".

and on the wing of abominations will come one who makes desolate, even until a complete destruction, one that is decreed, is poured out on the one who makes desolate."

This translation says that "complete destruction" is poured on "the one who makes desolate" - NOT on the Jews.  This agrees with Dan 11:25, "come to his end and no one will help him".

The New testament writers do not claim what you are claiming, there is not mention of the 70 weeks being a fullfillment of any part of the life of Jesus. This one would be the prophesy that trumps them all-but it is missing.

The translation you are using is a blatant mistranslation, they did not even translate "anointed" In all 38 cases of anointed it says anointed except in the two instances in Daniel. Even in daniel 9 the word anointed is translated as anointed, but is ignored in just a few verses

to finish the transgression, to make an end of sin, to make atonement for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal up vision and prophecy and to anoint the most holy place.

In context of daniel and the end of sacrifice on the alter, the anointed would be the rededication of the Temple and alter by a Preist. This is why hunnakkah is called the feast of rededication

It appears that Rachel has verses backing up her proposition. I'm with her on this.

Again, the 70 weeks are literal 490 days that will find fulfillment shortly before the Second Coming.

Samie,

I'm not saying exactly WHAT I believe, at this point.  I see problems with the SDA interpretation.  But I also see problems with the Darby/Scofield interpretation.  I'm looking for input that makes some sense.

Then it is real to you. If you could show me supporting verses that quote the 70 weeks from the New Testament writers that claim this with any part of the life of Jesus?

Could you show me where in context the anointing of the holy place is the day of atonement?

In context of Daniel the anointing is rededication of the Temple/alter

the vision concerning the daily sacrifice, the rebellion that causes desolation, the surrender of the sanctuary and the trampling underfoot of the Lord’s people?”

14 He said to me, “It will take 2,300 evenings and mornings; then the sanctuary will be reconsecrated.”

The people of the ruler who will come will destroy the city and the sanctuary.

 “His armed forces will rise up to desecrate the temple fortress and will abolish the daily sacrifice. Then they will set up the abomination that causes desolation.

In due respect to 8th day priest, there is nothing in the context of Daniel about the day of atonement, the concern is with the Temple and the desolated alter, and its rededication

You are forever saying that something is "a blatant mistranslation" but you offer no proof of that.

I have LOOKED at the prophecy of the 70 weeks in MANY different translations.  They don't differ much from one another.

The Day of Atonement symbolically "made an end of sins" committed up to the day of that service, but did NOT "bring in everlasting righteousness".  Same for rededicating any Temple at Jerusalem.  The "blood of bulls and goats could NOT take away sin", so any earthly Yom Kippur service (prior to the SC) - even at a rededicated Temple, would not literally "make an end of sin".

When the sins of God's people are put upon the "head" of Satan, and he (as the scapegoat) is banished to the "uninhabited place" - THAT WILL bring an end to those sins.  But THAT will happens at the Second Coming, which to me, seems THE fulfillment of the Day of Atonement prophecy.

AND "the Most Holy Place" of Heaven itself (the true Tabernacle) will also be "anointed" on THAT DAY - if it is indeed the final Day of Atonement (as I believe it will be).

Lets just take a look at tDaniel 9 and the translation you used. It is a blatant mistranslation. They mistranslated משיח ~ Moshiach even in the span of a few verses.

Seventy weeks[a] are determined
For your people and for your holy city,
To finish the transgression,

To make an end of[b] sins,
To make reconciliation for iniquity,
To bring in everlasting righteousness,
To seal up vision and prophecy,
And to anoint(
משיח ~ Moshiach) the Most Holy.

25 “Know therefore and understand,
That from the going forth of the command
To restore and build Jerusalem
Until Messiah9(
משיח ~ Moshiach) the Prince,
There shall be seven weeks and sixty-two weeks;

The street[c] shall be built again, and the wall,[d]
Even in troublesome times.

26 “And after the sixty-two weeks
Messiah (
משיח ~ Moshiach) shall be cut off, but not for Himself;
And the people of the prince who is to come
Shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.
The end of it shall be with a flood,
And till the end of the war desolations are determined.

This would be a proper translation

24 “Seventy weeks[c] are decreed about your people and your holy city, to finish the transgression, to put an end to sin, and to atone for iniquity, to bring in everlasting righteousness, to seal both vision and prophet, and to anoint .a most holy place.[d] 25 Know therefore and understand that from the going out of the word to restore and build Jerusalem to the coming of an anointed one, a prince, there shall be seven weeks. Then for sixty-two weeks it shall be built again[e] with squares and moat, but in a troubled time. 26 And after the sixty-two weeks, an anointed one shall be cut off and shall have nothing. And the people of the prince who is to come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary.

In all respect,none of these is in context with daniel but have to be obtained by going off the pages of Daniel and the bible

1.The end of sin would not be the end of all sin, itis the end of the sin that caused the people of God to be exiled from jerusalem and brought into babylonian captivity

2.Daniel does not deal with a day of atonement prophesy, it deals with the exile.

3. Daniel is dealing with a physical alter and sanctuary that would be given over to sacriledge-and needed to be rededicated

king James Version. It does not stop with the KJV, it keeps going with the NKJV, the NIV and a few others. Many also get it right. I dont blame people for having trouble with Daniel 9, it has been abused by translators in the past to lead you to their conclusion. This is not translating, but inserting a commentary

THE ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION

NRS  Daniel 11:31  Forces sent by him shall occupy and profane the temple and fortress. They shall abolish the regular burnt offering and set up the abomination that makes desolate.

NRS  Daniel 12:11 From the time that the regular burnt offering is taken away and the abomination that desolates is set up, there shall be one thousand two hundred ninety days.

In these two verses it seems OBVIOUS that it's the BAD GUY who stops the sacrifices - NOT Jesus.

NIV  Matthew 24:15 "So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,'spoken of through the prophet Daniel-- let the reader understand-- "

Mark quotes the same words of Christ.

Now - Christ COULD have been referring to Titus, standing within the holy ground limits of Jerusalem.

OR Jesus COULD have been referring to an image of the emperor, set up within the Temple court.

OR - Jesus could have been prophesying about something that would happen waaaaay down near the very close of this age, just before His return.

OR Jesus could have covered BOTH - with one prophesy.  It DID work to get the Christians to flee the City.

We call it a dual prophecy.  It has application in more than one event or place.  Many, many of the verses describing the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians, apply with equal force to the destruction at the Second Coming.

Daniel definitely DEALS WITH the events at the Second Coming.  Daniel 12:2-3 for SURE.

The physical alter, and the Temple at Jerusalem did NOT NEED to be rededicated.  That ENTIRE system was rendered obsolete by the death of God's son - the "one sacrifice for all".

I do BELIEVE that a Temple of Yahweh, will be rededicated BEFORE the SC, but I think that will be the Temple of Satan.  That restoration will NOT be the LORD's doing.

Daniel 9:  mentions "one week", during which "He" (?? who) "will confirm a covenant with many".  One week would be 7 years.

"In the midst of the week, he will bring an end to sacrifice and offering".  So - that would be 3.5 years into THAT "week", leaving 3.5 more years of THAT week.

NKJ  Daniel 7:25 He shall speak pompous words against the Most High, Shall persecute the saints of the Most High, And shall intend to change times and law. Then the saints shall be given into his hand For a time and times and half a time.

Same amount of TIME.

KJV  Daniel 12:7 And I heard the man clothed in linen, which was upon the waters of the river, when he held up his right hand and his left hand unto heaven, and sware by him that liveth for ever that it shall be for a time, times, and an half; and when he shall have accomplished to scatter the power of the holy people, all these things shall be finished.

SAME amount of TIME.

NKJ  Revelation 12:6 Then the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there one thousand two hundred and sixty days.

NKJ  Revelation 12:14 But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, that she might fly into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent.

SAME PERIOD OF TIME.

NKJ  Revelation 13:5 [Speaking of the Beast after his deadly wound is healed] And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to continue for forty-two months.

ALL mention the SAME period of time.  The "woman" flees from the Serpent, AFTER she brings forth a "manchild" who is caught up to God's throne.  So this is NOT speaking of a time period which occurred during the OT.  The Beast is a last days power.

So - if this IS last days, then why not the half a week in Daniel 9 ??

Daniel definitely DEALS WITH the events at the Second Coming.  Daniel 12:2-3 for SURE.

The physical alter, and the Temple at Jerusalem did NOT NEED to be rededicated.  That ENTIRE system was rendered obsolete by the death of God's son - the "one sacrifice for all".

I do BELIEVE that a Temple of Yahweh, will be rededicated BEFORE the SC, but I think that will be the Temple of Satan.  That restoration will NOT be the LORD's doing.

It does not go into the second advent. daniel 12:3 promises resurrection and eternal life to those who overcome the ordeal of the exile, and the sacrilege that happens towards the end of the exile.

If there is a renewed Temple it would not be found in Daniel. this has to be forced into Daniel from a wrong interpretation to begin with
