Which bank went on to become the Bank of America?

Answer: The history of Bank of America dates back to 1904, when Amadeo Giannini founded the Bank of Italy in San Francisco. The Bank of Italy served the needs of many immigrants settling in the U.S. at that time, a service denied by many existing American banks. In 1928, Giannini merged with Bank of America, Los Angeles and consolidated it with his other bank holdings to create what would become the largest banking institution in the country. He renamed the Bank of Italy on November 3, 1930, calling it Bank of America.

When Did Lisa Marie First Meet Michael?

Roughly two years before the death of Elvis Presley, a 7-year-old Lisa Marie attended a couple of Jackson Five concerts in Las Vegas and was personally introduced to Michael by her father. For the next 17 years, they rarely saw one another, but in November 1992, they struck up a friendship and began talking almost daily on the telephone.

In the summer of 1993, Michael was accused of sexually abusing 13-year-old Jordie Chandler by the boy's father Evan Chandler, a one-time friend of Jackson. Under pressure because of the molestation rumors and reportedly increasingly dependent on drugs, Jackson became very dependent on Lisa Marie for emotional support. For her part, Lisa Marie was convinced that Michael was innocent. As she told Jackson biographer J. Randy Taraborelli, ¨I believed he didn't do anything wrong, and that he was wrongly accused and, yes, I started falling for him. I wanted to save him. I felt that I could do it.¨

Where Were Jackson and Presley Married?

They were married in La Vega, Dominican Republic, by a civil judge, Hugo Francisco Alvarez Perez, in the living room of his home. Reportedly, the ceremony took under 15 minutes, and the couple was accompanied by a bodyguard and several lawyers. At the time of their marriage, Jackson was 35 and Presley 26 years old.

It was the first marriage for Jackson and the second for Presley. Her first marriage had been to Danny Keough, the musician, they had a son and daughter together. They were divorced after about six years, and she married Jackson 20 days following the divorce from her first husband. They had reportedly dated for about four months when he called her and proposed over the telephone. The couple stayed married for about two years, divorcing in 1996.

Did Either of Them Marry Again?

The same year Jackson divorced Presley, he married Deborah Rowe, the nursing assistant to a Beverly Hills dermatologist. She had met Jackson when he went there for an appointment. Their first child, Michael Joseph Jackson, Jr., nicknamed Prince, was born on Feb. 13, 1997. This was followed by two other children, Paris Michael Katherine Jackson and Prince Michael Jackson.

Following the divorce, Presley became engaged to John Oszajca, a musician, but broke it off when she met Nicolas Cage, the actor. Cage and Presley were married in 2002. The marriage lasted 108 days. In 2006, she married Michael Lockwood, a producer, and guitarist and they remain married. They had twin daughters, Finley and Harper in 2008.

In What Video Did Jackson and Presley Appear Together?

The video was from the R&B song “You Are Not Alone,” and was released as a single from Jackson’s 1995 album, HIStory. The song itself holds a Guinness World Record as the first song in Billboard’s Hot 100 history to hit number one at its debut. It also holds the distinction of being Jackson’s Michael final single to reach the number one spot, holding the unlucky number 13 in his history of hit records.

The video of the song stars Jackson and Presley in semi-clothed states during the temple scene, which appears in various places throughout. In other scenes in the video, Jackson appears alone in an empty theater, atop rocks near the ocean and in a desert.

RL Stine probably didn't think it had the same ring as goosebumps, but that's exactly what horripilation is.

Who Funded the Golden Gate Bridge?

Before construction started on the bridge, it has plenty of opponents. People argued that the bridge's clearance would prevent large ships from entering San Francisco Harbor, that if some enemy nation blew it up it could block off large fleets of US ships, that it would be vulnerable to earthquakes, that it would be an eyesore destroying the picturesque nature of San Francisco Harbor.

But with opposition so fierce, the state and federal governments were hesitant to fund the project, only providing a small sum for the cause. So the locals took matters into their own hands, putting up their homes, farms and businesses as collateral for a $35 million bond issue to fund the bridge. Yup, they risked it all for the controversial structure even with the Great Depression in full swing. But thanks to bridge tolls, the investment has paid off. People recouped their initial investment, then chalked up another 39 million in interest.

How Many People Died Constructing the Golden Gate Bridge?

11 people died working on the Golden Gate Bridge. Yet that was actually considered a good number for the time. Back then, high-steel bridge construction workers would die at a rate of roughly one for every million bucks you planned to spend on the project. This was the first construction site in America to require employees to wear hard hats and they built a safety net under the bridge to catch workers who fell, which ended up saving 19 lives.

How Did Designers Choose What Color the Bridge Would Be?

You ever buy something you intend to paint, then take it out of the box and just say, "eh, it's good enough already?" Well that's not too far off from how they handled the color choice for the Golden Gate Bridge. Back in the '30s, bridges primarily came in one of three colors: Black, gray and silver. You know, the most boring colors in the world (with our apologies to brown).

But when the Golden Gate Bridge was being built, people really liked the primer color used on the structure: a sort of burnt orange. Besides appealing to random passersby, the color also pleased Irving Morrow, the bridge's designer. It somehow fit the scenic backdrop of the San Francisco Harbor, and why shouldn't such a special bridge have its own special color? So they stuck with what is now officially known as international orange.

How Big Is the Bridge?

It’s 1.7 miles long and 90 feet wide. The original weight was 894,500 tons if you included the approaches, bridge itself and anchorages. That weight was lowered to 887,000 tons in 1986 because it was redecked. The original bridge had concrete decking. Replacing the original with steel and asphalt surfacing lowered the weight by 7,500 tons. The height of either of the two towers that support the bridge is 746 feet above the water line. Each of the towers is held together by 600,000 rivets.

What does a entomologist study?

Answer: Entomology is the scientific study of insects. Scientists who study insects (there are close to a million that can be studied) are called entomologists. Entomologists have many important jobs, such as the study of the classification, life cycle, physiology, behavior, and population dynamics of insects. About 8,000 men and women work as professional entomologists in the United States. There are roughly one million described species of insect and entomologists estimate that there are probably another five million species that are yet to be identified.

How Many Americans Died in the Vietnam War?

According to the National Records and Archives Administration, 58,220 Americans died as a result of the war in Vietnam. That’s an average of nearly 20 American deaths per day that the US had military forces on the ground in Vietnam.

As staggering as that number may be, it doesn’t come close to touching the number of deaths experienced in other major US conflicts.

Which War is Responsible for the Highest Number of US Fallen Soldiers?

According to data from the Department of Defense and Department of Veteran Affairs, Vietnam is only the fourth deadliest war for US military personnel.

The first World War killed over 100,000 American soldiers. World War II more than tripled that number with over 400,000 fallen. The most deadly war of all for US military though? Our own Civil War.

Estimates of the number dead vary but generally hover around approximately 500,000 US military deaths as a result of the Civil War. Combined with eight other US military conflicts not mentioned thus far, the total number of US military deaths in history is now well over 1.1 million.

The deadliest battle of all-time? That was actually in World War I at the Battle of Argonne Forest where over 26,000 American soldiers lost their lives.

What is the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier?

On March 4, 1921, Congress approved the burial of an unidentified US soldier on a hilltop facing Washington DC in Arlington National Cemetery. President Harding oversaw the burial of the soldier later that year. A new post-wartime ceremony was born. The Unknown Soldiers from each war buried in that tomb are meant to symbolize all of the fallen Americans from their respective conflicts.

President Eisenhower was the next to hold the honor. He buried two unknowns: one selected from World War II and the other from the Korean War. Both were awarded the Medal of Honor and buried in a ceremony presided over by Eisenhower.

It wasn’t until 1984 - over 10 years after the Paris Peace Accords effectively put an end to the Vietnam War - that President Reagan buried the Unknown Soldier alongside his fallen comrades from the two World Wars and Korea.

20 hours ago, phkrause said:

Why Did it Take So Much Time to Choose a Soldier from Vietnam for the Tomb?

In the years between Eisenhower’s induction of the two unknowns from World War II and Korean Wars and Reagan’s burial of the unknown from Vietnam, there had been significant technological, militaristic and scientific advancements that made actually finding an unknown soldier difficult.

By 1982, all but four fallen US soldiers had been identified and their next of kin notified. Of the four remaining, two were identified later that year and one couldn’t be 100% verified as American. That left the one remaining unknown, who was chosen and later buried by President Reagan on May 28, 1984.
