Died suddenly and unexpectedly when my father was 15, about a year after the photo was taken. 2) I took my dad's portrait in 1983. He was a colporteur, teacher, school administrator, author, pastor. Moderators John317 Posted March 4, 2013 Author Moderators Posted March 4, 2013 At the time that picture was taken, my father was principal of San Diego Adventist Academy and my mom taught a first grade class in our garage so she could stay home with me and my brother and my youngest sister. We lived on the Paradise Valley Sanatorium property, which was adjacent to the Adventist school. My older sister would often take us younger kids on wonderful, exciting rides in a market basket around the hospital grounds, to a candy & icecream store and to a nearby canyon filled with great eucalyptus trees. I do plan to get back there somehow some time in the next couple of years, though, since I need to see family in eastern Tennessee as well as my friend in North Carolina.
