We do have the blessed assurance that we are once-saved, always saved in Jesus Christ--forever and ever!!!

1 John 5:13 says...

These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.

I tend to agree with you to a certain extend. But from what your saying here is that a person that lives a life of crime, but believes in God he will be saved without changing the direction of his life! I always figured that a person that comes to know God will change the way they live, think, etc. because they love the Lord and not go on living a life that goes against what Jesus talks about in the Bible.

If you interpret 1 Jn 5:13 that way, then you have to reconcile it with the following:

21 “But if a wicked person turns away from all his sins that he has committed and keeps all my statutes and does what is just and right, he shall surely live; he shall not die. 22 None of the transgressions that he has committed shall be remembered against him; for the righteousness that he has done he shall live. 23 Have I any pleasure in the death of the wicked, declares the Lord God, and not rather that he should turn from his way and live? 24 But when a righteous person turns away from his righteousness and does injustice and does the same abominations that the wicked person does, shall he live? None of the righteous deeds that he has done shall be remembered; for the treachery of which he is guilty and the sin he has committed, for them he shall die.The Holy Bible : English standard version. 2001 (Eze 18:21-24). Matt 24:13 But the one who endures to the end will be saved.

Jesus saved us once and for all. He doesn't have to die again. It is a done deal. We are "always" saved .... if we accept that saved status. Why are we always saved? It is always because he never ... NEVER takes that saved status away from us. It is WE who turn our back on the saved status that Jesus has for us. And when we turn away from Him ... He cries over what we have done.

Paul touches on this in Gal 3:10

Dgrimm ... I was going to resist since this is a divisive topic. I tried and failed. This is just like our condition when we accept Jesus. We accept Him as our saviour but we still fail. Do you think that Jesus says to us ' Oh, I can't save you yet until you get 'out' of all your sins'. I don't believe He says that. What He says is "I love and accept you NOW'. That person is still IN their sins. And yet they are saved by the blood of Jesus.

Yes ... they also are saved so that they can come OUT of their sins. But that is the work of a lifetime. (Sanctification)

Does any of this make any sense?

Are we not saved both IN our sins and later OUT of them?

I don't find the above quote in Scripture, so apparently it's just an opinion, which to me doesn't amount much.

I don't want to be charged with misquoting you again, Red, so I want you to make absolutely clear to me what your position is. When you turn your back on Christ after you have intitially accepted Him, are you still saved?

Okay. Fair enough. Once you join the other side and tell Jesus you don't want to be on His side anymore ... you join the side of the Lost. But you could always come back. I don't belive in once lost always lost.

But don't jump up and down too quickly. We are not talking about someone who is just struggling with their walk. This is someone who is clearly and purposefully rejecting God and telling God they don't want any part of His way.

Most of us here are just struggling in our walk. We are not like a yo-yo going in and out of God's favor. No. We accept God's mercy but we continue to struggle in our walk. We are saved.

But please don't go from one extreme to another extreme. Still, obedience is always important....not for us to be saved by our obedience, but because we're saved already that lead us into the obedience. "If you love me" Jesus says, "you keep my commandmends"

However, no matter how much Jesus loves us, the power of choice is principly always belongs to our own, not God's.

The Lord does NOT want to meet with people in heaven that choose not to accept the salvation.

There must be a huge protest and demonstration in the new heaven and the new earth because they will surprise why they got the salvation and finally be there in heaven since in fact that group of people never accept the salvation Jesus offered to them.

Just remember that there's a difference in "back sliding"(becoming an immature or carnal christian) and premeditated apostasy. In the latter there's no coming back. You are once lost forever lost. Read Hebrews 6:4

"For it is impossible to restore to repentance those who were once enlightened – those who have experienced the good things of heaven and shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the power of the age to come – 6 and who then turn away from God [commit apostasy]. It is impossible to bring such people to repentance again because they are nailing the Son of God to the cross again by rejecting him, holding him up to public shame." (NLT)

The NIV is a bit better:

4 It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, 5 who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age, 6 if they fall away [commit apostasy], to be brought back to repentance, [why?] because to their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace.

You see human nature murdered Christ. Our human nature put Christ on the cross. Remember how Jesus said, "Father forgive them for they do not know what they are doing?" But when you come to know God...the goodness and love of God, and then reject Him, you are NOW openly nailing Christ to the cross, figuratively speaking.

So a believer can reject his position "in Christ". He can reject the gospel, harden his heart, and be eternally lost.

That's the aim, but not the method. We are accepted into heaven by the doing and dying of Christ alone.

Sounds like once saved always saved, huh? Well, yes and no. You see if your faith remains "in Christ" no one can take heaven from you, but that doesn't include you, yourself!!!!

You can remove yourself from God's hand through unbelief. He will not force you to remain or God becomes a God of force, which is a characteristic of Satan.
